Orrville Football - 2010

  • OQB
I would call you a very proud football Dad with a slight tint of Red and White in your contacts :)

....but your comments all come down to coaching....and I know you love the coaching staff, as do I but things have got to change!

We seldom used Monheim and Hoobler last year and every time we did....every time....we accomplished the goal. I think the exact same thing this year.[/QUOTE wrote:
I feel we beat OG last year if we use this backfield all over the field. They didn't stop it the one ot two times we used it. The point being, We hadn't used it much, it wasn't scouted, would've been a perfect time for the coaches to run something different until it is stopped. Just like OG passing instead of running on us. We can't go out there against an equal to or better team and run the same old same old. Time for the coaches to get a little creative and win with some coaching.

The old saying goes if it aint broke, don't fix it.......well I wouldn't say it is completely broke, but needs a new page or two in that playbook.

Man I would love to see an Orrville offense as explosive as the Oregon Ducks have...I think we have the athletes to be that explosive offense...but won't use it to our advantage.

    sidenote:

We have only used the two minute/no huddle offense TWICE this year......

As far as the arm chair QB business, did I read anywhere someone saying you can't be one on here? I don't think so. So, Go Riders, stop feeling sorry for yourself and get back to your old self! And when I end my posts with "Go Riders!", I am not talking to you! Maybe I should say "Let's Go Riders!" ;-)

I want to make one thing perfectly clear, I am not being critical or personal about our QB. I think he is doing a good job under the circumstances. I AM being critical of the lack of available tools we have that are not being provided to him to use.

    Let's Go Riders!

Thank you BRF!! No feeling sorry for myself any longer. I can be a very good armchair qb. Keep with the Go Riders not Lets Go Riders. Now I will proceed to be the Armchair QB since I have been permitted to do so by you a great Chatter poster of high reputation!! By the way poor coaching decisions also fall into the armchair qb category so do all aspects of player/player position. As long as the comments relate to football in any way the comments are then to be deemed permissible. Seems to me the rules are now established let the armchair Qb ing begin.

I will start by saying that if anyone thinks it is too late to make player position changes or play call changes I think they are wrong. Clear Fork changed their defense just for the Ashland game. They did it because they understood it was necessary for them to have a chance to win. They also make sure that the ball gets to their play makers hands ( McCune). We are not getting the ball into our play makers hands ( I believe our play makers are Mason and Turner). These guys where lucky if the 2 of them combined touched the ball more then 10 times on offense against Clear Fork. To me it is poor coaching if the staff can not figure out a way to get the ball into the hands of our play makers. Trying to get the ball into the hands of these people though incomplete passes is not acceptable. The coach must figure out a way that guarantees the ball will be in the hands of one of these persons period. You might as well have eleven 400 pound 10 second 40 times players in there if the coach is unable to make sure the ball gets to a play maker you will have the same failing result. The best athletes are the guys who will put a team in the best position to win. It is the coaches responsibility to make sure that happens and excuses for failing to do that are just excuses for failure.

    Welcome back! :)

    did you get my message?
  • Go Riders
    Yeah :}
  • OQB
CF did a very good job of getting McCune the ball in numerous ways, as well as using him as a decoy to get other playmakers the ball....that fake middle screen/fade pass. You have to know that there is a reason Mccune is lined up at WR....I knew they were going to throw him the ball when he was out there, but seemed like our defense didn't.

The Rider D held up and stopped an exception offensive team for the entire 1st half. Giving up 6 points in 2 quarters to these guys and defense being on the field 80% of the time was a victory. Giving up only 18 points through 3 quarters was another great defensive job. The offense against good teams stinks. West Holmes, Madison and Senior are not good teams. Ashland is a good offense with poor defense. Riders are a great defense with poor offense thanks to the lack of good play calling.

    Go Riders!

I'll take it as permission. I was/am looking for an excuse you know!

What I would really like to know is why are some people here opposed to player/playbook change. To me it is very clear that our chances of getting anywhere in the playoffs are slim if we don't make changes. I also don't buy into the whole "This years team was not expected to be this good" excuse. We lost great players from last year but we also have great fast players this year. I cannot imagine that the coaching staff is thinking " We are 6 and 3 thats farther then we thought we would get" or " We don't have a chance no sense in trying something different" If they do think that they should step down. I also don't buy the " Look at other great programs that have failed we should be happy to be where we are". The kids play to win every game they expect to win every game and it is the coaches obligation to do everything possible to make that a reality. Do you think that the Clear Fork coaches are thinking " After this year we will stink with all the seniors we are losing might as well not even try" I seriously doubt that. We are Orrville we expect to win and we want good reasons when we don't.
  • OQB
Herm Edwards once said....."You Play To Win The Game!!" :D haha
  • Go Riders
For those who think i never have anything good to say concerning the coach I would like to say this.
I have seen the coach with the team at dinners and limited practice. This guy really cares about the kids he has very high expectations for their performance and effort. I would also say Davault without a doubt goes far above any standard expected of him when it comes to trying to get our players to the next level in football. Div. 1, 2, or 3. I know he contacts college programs and sends video clips of our kids to coaches. I am very impressed with his desire and dedication to our students.

Unless I'm mistaken, he's been injured every year and has not played an entire football season. What I've witnessed at the few games I've attended and the few that he has played in when I attended, I've seen nothing (performance-wise) indicating he has D1 potential at any position on the field, especially against Clear Fork. He did commit (and got away with) several late hits against guys without the ball, however!
  • Series62
The first half D was much better then the 2nd half D. Clear Forks Momentum in the 2nd half coupled with fatigue took its toll on the defense. They say defense wins games. Well if you can't score points you won't win any games.
OrrvilleQB;529239 wrote:Yes exactly I talked to BRF at halftime and said I'll take a 6-0 game at halftime considering their offense and the scoring they have done...we had our opportunities and didn't capitalize on them on offense.
oqb, in the first half the meat was being tenderized, in the second half, the meat was properly COOKED, and by the end of the 4th Qtr, the timer expired and when stuck with a Clear "Fork", found to be...DONE!
  • OQB
^^^yes we were very "well done"

but we also got out coached and outplayed.....I've already said that.
  • Series62
"Outcoached and outplayed", I agree there too! It surprises me to hear so many critiques of the coach and his staff on here and in the stadium especially considering the fact that through the week he/they could do no wrong and the continued statements of how prepared the team would be. He better not lose to Wooster, they might have his head!
  • OQB
He will be fine, just needs to make changes...
    In how practice goes
    In how they watch film
    In how they call plays
In how they get playmakers the ball.

He hasn't lost to wooster yet....

Go Riders;530202 wrote:Well I definitely fit the armchair qb description to a tee. I really never felt bad about it until it has become clear this chat room does not like/tolerate anyone being an armchair qb or better yet seems to always think the comments should be taken as personal attacks. Criticizing the decisions of the coaching staff/ player decisions has been to me and always will be limited to football related decisions nothing else. I believe they are all great community/family involved individuals and never question that. I always was under the impression the purpose or at least majority purpose of this forum was for armchair qbs to vent. I erased my posts so those offended can be at ease. The content of the posts seemed correct to me. I'm not sure what the point of the forum here is. If you can only say positive comments and very very limited criticism at best it loses my interest because I don't really want to post about what to eat, where to eat or bad grammar in a post or limitless reflection on Rider football history. Until I read that being an armchair Qb in this forum is acceptable I guess most of my typing is done. I'm sure my critics will be more than happy. Great guys on this forum that post I know many of you. We have had a few good series of armchair qb ing that were fun. I guess there is a fine line at what is over the top when posting.

"If you can only say positive comments and very very limited criticism at best it loses my interest because I don't really want to post about what to eat, where to eat or bad grammar in a post or limitless reflection on Rider football history."

Go Riders...I agree wholeheartedly with your entire comment, especially the above quote.
  • Series62
Yeah man...that's what they were saying about Clear Fork til Friday about 9:30PM! I hear tell that Wooster's better than they were last year too!
  • OQB
And that's why they play the game!

NFL QB's are dropping left and right. Any word from the Hiller camp on nibbles?

First time blog long time Rider enthusiast. The comments and reviews have been eye opening and thought provoking as the season progressed. Keep up the good work gentlemen. Done with pleasantries and on to the game. Great job last night RIDERS. The line and running game was top notch, and the defense rose up and played good hard hitting RIDER ball. There are a lot of Wooster players feeling it today. This is the formula we need to do going forward into the playoffs. The team, coaching staff, and community showed what it really means to be an Orrvillian!!! Go Orrville......Beat that purple team......Focus and Tradition will keep it going for Week 11.
