2017 Browns Off-Season Thread

I'm hoping that Pats really really like someone at 52 where we could work out a trade for garopollo using the shit load of picks we have next year. If we walk out of this draft with Garrett, peppers, njoku and garopollo I'd be very very happy

The Garopollo ship has sailed off. It's not happening.

I'm an OSU fan and my hesitance with Peppers has nothing to do with his college lol come on that's just stupid.

I hope I'm wrong. But I just don't see him being even a decent pro.

Seems like the Mark Barron comparison I've heard a few times already. Not really a true safety. Not really a true LB. His value comes with having the defense around him to let him do whatever is needed at the time, but he's never going to be a star at either. Good teams need that though...

This. Those who can do a lot of things well but no one thing great seems to work in the college game far better than in the pros.

I see more people outside of OSU fans liking the pick than hating it is all I am saying. To add more to that fire, the Browns could have taken an OSU player lol...

You could be right, but I think it was a solid pick. The Browns need athletes, and they got one in Peppers. Some of you all acting like this first round was dooms day like the other Browns drafts need to chill out. They didn't overreach for a QB, they have another first round pick next year, and they picked three guys that are athletic as fuck.

I'm an Illinois fan. I like the Peppers pick. I drafted him in our mock draft. The Browns did excellent in the first round.

I'm with you. What they got from Houston was great, but that pick was a head scratcher. He's a tweener. I'll be surprised if he's anything more than ok.

I think people forget that Jabrill played safety the year before this current year. For those who jerk off to SPARQ, he is rated pretty well at safety for a guy who "doesnt' have a position." I just don't see how you guys think this dude is uncoachable, when he discplined himself/dedicated a lot of time practicing and studying film for numerous positions. Harbaugh said he has the highest football IQ of any player he has seen outside of Luck.

Peppers was a projected top 5 pick, by a few analysts, coming into the past season. He obviously fell and his stats are underwhelming. Supposedly the Hoodie/Patriots liked him a lot.

What I don't like, we don't have a QB and IMO a stud QB was there. Mahomes was known to be Hue's favorite, he checks all the boxes the FO looks for, and we had the most ammo to go up and get him if needed. Instead we allow the Chiefs to get in front of us to take him which is inexcusable IMO. Another example of the FO playing Penis Flickers (That's for you S&L) when Chiefs are playing chess. If you feel good about a guy (it's known they wanted him), you don't let another team steal your fucking franchise QB. [/Entering Hottaeks Zone]
I am sorry man, you and I are normally on the same page with drafts, but you should change the title of this paragraph to [overreaction zone], because this is the biggest overreaction in this thread. All these years we have bitched about the Browns overreaching for a QB (we all know the results), and now you are upset that they didn't TRADE UP for a guy who isn't the consensus top QB in a weak QB class?

The Browns front office have done the exact opposite of what they have done the last 5-7 years, and you all are still upset lol. I guess time will tell.

Believe me, we all have our "Weedens." smdh..."swing, and a miss..." :p

Overall I think we drafted very well for having 3 picks. Garrett is the best player in the draft, period. Peppers, despite his flaws, does have insane raw athleticism and instincts. Njoku looks like an absolute monster and while a TE is not a top priority, I think he can give the next QB a top tier offensive weapon.

Most importantly, we didn't draft a QB. I still hope a trade of some kind is in the works to get Kirk from the Redskins because this is still the #1 concern that remains to turn this team into a playoff contender.

Jared Mueller‏ @JaredKMueller 20m 20 minutes ago This Cleveland Browns Regime has a plan & everything seems to fit that plan. Whether you or I agree with it or not is irrelevant

    Jared Mueller‏ @JaredKMueller 20m 20 minutes ago
    That plan is simple:
    Good character
    High Production
    High Measurables
    Young
    All at good value
Plus more picks are better than less.

The other thing, in these 2 Drafts, I never got the feeling the Browns were anything but in control of things. Never overreacting, etc

Once Mahomes and Lattimore where picked in front of them, trading back made sense IMHO.

I don't agree that this wasn't a strong draft class. Probably not '04 but I think it was solid. When it comes to Mahomes, it's well known that I rarely like college QB's coming out, but I liked him a ton. Outside of Luck and Winston, Mahomes is my Top QB to come out since 2012. Thus I don't see it as a reach like Weeden/Quinn/JFF/etc...

The choices at 12 were simple after mahomes came off the board:

watson, hooker, or peppers plus a 1st round pick...they must not have had the first two ranked high enough over peppers to turn down a 1st rounder next year

also, if hoodie really likes peppers, I feel even more comfortable with the pick...let's give him a chance

The steelers apparently interested in peppers too. Hate the pats/steelers all you want, but those teams know how to draft.

Appears to be a lot of equally ranked corners that should be available near #52 or #65.

Steelers are a bit of a mixed bag recently.

I want one of these guys in the 2nd: Baker, Josh Jones, Marcus Maye, Justin Evans, Marcus Williams, Obi, Auwizie, King, Wilson

Huh? What do you base that on? He played in a shitty conference, played for a team catered to his style of QB (which is not a pro style and certainly not the Chiefs style), and because of that he put up big numbers. I'd compare him to someone exactly like Brandon Weeden, a product of the system he was in. He's a glorified Graham Harrell (you know, that guy from TTU that never threw a pass in the NFL) and will not be successful in the NFL. Mark my words. Kansas City was nearly as ignorant as the Bears with that trade-up and pick. I had Kizer and Webb ahead of him on my preferred QB list.

Not saying you're wrong, just curious as to how you came to that conclusion?

I didn't want to say this because I've already taken my turns falling on the Brandon Weeden sword (yeah, that didn't sound good) but when I watched his film I thought "younger version of Weeden."

He has a big arm, bad footwork and makes a lot of dumb/risky throws like Weeden.

The advantage is that he has is time & Alex Smith on his side. He can sit & learn behind Smith and be taught by Andy Reid. He's also not an almost 30 year old rookie so he might be able to be fixed.
