2016 Browns Season Thread

"If there is a QB at #2 that is a best fit for our team, we need to go get him. It's my opinion we need a QB."
The exact quote..... the only qualifier there is "IF".

Hopefully, Jackson gets to it and gets his D-Coordinator. Leslie Frazier is gone, Ray Horton may stay in Tennessee and I haven't heard much about Jim Schwartz. I believe, those are the only three names we've heard about that have actually run a defense.

I think it's imperative that Jackson, best known as an offensive guy (although he's coached DB's) gets a guy on the defense who's "been there, done that." No more O'Neill's or linebacker coaches who are getting promoted as a first time DC.

His quote, to me, pretty much says "sayonara Billy Football." It's good to see he realizes this is a major weakness on the team.

Agree on Manziel being gone. Also refreshing to see his take on WR's. Hopefully we can get a legit WR or two in Free Agency/Draft.

I think we're going to see this team rely on the draft heavily, going forward. They may sprinkle in a few FA's but the draft will be their lifeblood.

Reading on another board I frequent, and it was also mentioned in the Tweets on the original one, the rumor was a 3rd this year and a 2nd rounder in 2017 (if the Browns make the playoffs in 2016) or a 2nd rounder in 2018 (if the Browns make the playoffs in 2017).

However, the rumor probably originated based on Hue alone. I doubt the Bengals FO would potentially trade a future starter and reliable backup in the division.

And the Browns would have to be idiots to give up that much for an unproven starter. If Jackson signed off on that, I'd lose complete faith in him immediately. That would be almost as bad as the Palmer deal.

    Mike Singletary anyone?

Former Lions head coach Jim Schwartz has interest from Browns, Eagles and Jaguars as defensive coordinator. Is considering his options. Would have liked Titans best, but Dick LeBeau is in line to return.

...and I don't disagree. However, it's possible the Browns take a major reach QB at #2 and I'm sure Hue Jackson will get more than his input on who his QB is going to be. If he thought McCarron was worth it, it would mean something I'd think.

Oh, I agree that Hue will have a ton of input on it. That price, for McCarron, would be ridiculous.

But would it, if you're going to take a QB at #2 just to take a QB at #2?

I mean, I suppose it all depends on what the projection on McCarron is. I'm sure it's all over the map. However, say he projects as somewhere between Ryan Tannehill and Andy Dalton? Would a 3rd rounder be unreasonable?

Mccarron isn't good. So no I wouldn't want to trade for him at all. He's not a starting qb in this league

More like he projects somewhere between Ryan Tannehill and Andy Dufrasne.

I am sure you would love a 3rd for McCarron, but any person who isn't delusional knows he is not worthy spending a 3rd rounder. Just stop.

you probably could get the Browns to trade JFF even up!

Why do people think McCarron is good? I watched all his games started this year, he is not a good QB lol.

Well, he almost won a playoff game, and as we all know, almost ws enough to get Charlie Weis a 10 year deal. So, when your team is starved for something, almost is enough for you to go all in. Similar to how a lot of Browns fans bought in on Manziel after a couple semi-decent games.

    Ha ha ha!

As a Bengals fan I would much rather them keep McCarron than trade him for a 3rd rounder, especially to a team in the division with the only OC he's ever had as coach. He didn't light the world on fire but look around the NFL, it's hard to get good QB play. It's really nice to have a backup that you know can come in and still win games with how good the rest of the team is.

If I were the Browns though I would draft a QB early and then another in the 4th or 5th round over trading for McCarron.
  • DeyDurkie5
Mccarron is terrible. This is a dumb conversation.
  • se-alum
With that Bengals defense, I think quite a few backup QB's could do what McCarron did.
