Were you involved in the "scrum" on the home run porch to get the ball? ;-)

I was actually at the game when he first came back after going to Chicago. People were throwing fake money and stuff at him.

No, actually it was Albert Belle candy bar night. Pretty sure hit 49 & 50 that night. We were over near the right field foul pole. He hit both to left field. We had a great angle and knew they were gone as soon as he connected. Can still taste the mix of chocolate bar & micro brewed beer.

Earlier that season, Belle started off slow as Hell. He caught fire and started hitting HR's in bunches at the end of the season (1995). Prior to going on a tear, I made a bet with my boss that there was "no way he hits 50." As soon as that ball connected with the bat I looked down at my cell phone and, sure as shit, who's calling? LOL

There was a story in our local paper back then about a guy from Wooster who caught the ball and some other guy actually bit his thumb trying to get the ball out of his hand, in the scramble that ensued.

Pitchers and catchers report in 6 days... First Cactus League game is March 1st!

4 days till pitchers and catchers report, and the Tribe has signed another BP candidate. Tommy Hunter has signed a 1 year $2mil contract and will be penciled in as pretty much a lock to make the team. The Tribe's pen should be pretty strong to go along with a solid core of starters.

In other news, the Tribe is still in the mix for aging 3Bman Juan Uribe. Uribe is still a potent bat, and would platoon with Gio Urshela at the hot corner. The Giants and the Yankees are also in the hunt....Uribe's asking price is said to be too high for anyone at this time.
  • Laley23
Why would he platoon? Both are right handed.

Maybe age or he's not an every day player at this point in his career? Just guesses.
  • HitsRus
That is accurate.^^^. He is not deemed capable of playing 3B defensively everyday, which is one reason why the Giants haven't signed him. He apparently wants full time money.

It was even more amazing because he did it in a short season due to the lockout.

Damn I wish we could still enjoy teams like that. Just so dominating and fun to watch.

It just hasn't been the same since Jacobs sold the team. Good organizations start at the top, and Cleveland has had some horrible owners in all of the sports.

Any predictions for the Tribe opening day lineup?

    My guess:

    Davis 7
    Lindor 6
    Kipnis 4
    Santana DH
    Gomes 2
    Napoli 3
    Chisenhall 9
    Urshela 5
    Almonte 8

That outfield is going to be putrid until Brantley comes back.
  • HitsRus
^^^^Actually that's not a bad outfield considering Brantley's not in it.

Actually, it is. Davis, Chiz & Almonte are all guys that would be platoon players on other teams but they are starters on Daddy No Bucks' franchise. It will be improved when Brantley returns but they will still have only one legit starter and two platoon guys manning the outfield.

Fielding wise, chisenhall actually did really well in the move to rf. Hitting has always been his issue.

They have an agreement, but there are still things that have to be done, including passing a physical. Due to visa issues, it may be a few days before he gets into camp.

The deal is for 1 year...a little less that $5 million. Uribe hit .253 with 14 HRs in 119 games. It gives the Tribe some options at third base, namely returning Gio Urshela to AAA if they feel he is not ready.

In former Tribe player news, Mike Aviles has announced that his daughter is now cancer free. Good stuff !

To a sense yes. Dude has crazy power and is only 19 years old so he will develop even more power. We haven't had a prospect that has that much power in a very long time.
