Tribe Offseason Thread 2015/2016

Frazier isn't going to the Indians....but he'll be a nice addition wherever he goes.

He's one of those guys I just wouldn't trade though.

But my question is: "why are Phoenix sports referred to as 'small market' when discussed nationally?"

I never really thought about it until I heard someone on a podcast, I forget which one, discussing small markets and basketball and referred to the Suns as a small market.
They did. When I read an article on Deadspin on one of their acquisitions, it mentioned a $1.5B deal or something like that. Get one of those and a lot of pockets will be open.

Talk is trading 2 starters for Frazier...no thanks.

    Idiotwedge is the missing link.

Frazier will not take two starting pitchers to land. What I've seen bandied about is either Clint Frazier, Tyler Naquin or top pitching prospect Kaminsky... One of those guys plus one or two other high mid-level prospects. Two of those guys probably gets the deal done.
  • Laley23
No need for all the CFs, so might as well make the deal if that gets it done. Prefer to keep Frazier over the rest though.

With Frazier being traded to the White Sox, the Tribe signs Mike Napoli to a 1 year deal.

I don't mind the signing. Any right handed power bat is a plus for me

    meh....but Crimson has a point.

Rajai Davis signing too. Another season of retreads with pretty bad batting averages in 2015.

A lot of people will probably "boo hoo" when Frazier is hitting HR's against the Tribe for the ChiSox but the asking price for him was beyond ridiculous.

Anthony Castrovince ‏@castrovince 15h15 hours ago In Frazier talks w/ Indians, Reds didn't waver from deals targeting Brad Zimmer, Clint Frazier and multiple other pieces from Tribe system.

Yet the Sox managed to get him despite the Reds not waive ring from prized SS, Tim Anderson. The Indians have a million CFs in the system, parting with one would've been just fine. Multiple I would've said no. But why are we the team that never negotiates, while others seem to get the asking price to drop?? Sounds like a bullshit PR stunt to me.

Indians also signed a left handed reliever, Thatcher.

This was a topic on 92.3 this morning and like_that, and others, have touched on this before.

The topic was do the Tribe get involved with "names" such as Puig, Cespedes, etc to give the fan base that "we tried/hope" when they really have no intention on parting with pieces to get them? In the meantime, giving the fans the "well, they tried but couldn't get them" mindset?

I, for one, am pretty sick of the Dolan's. I don't think the fans are asking for a Greinke-like (contract) player but someone better than a broken down 1986 Pontiac Fiero would be nice.

Tribe signs Rajai Davis, formerly of the Tigers. Good signing, but only drawback is Chris Johnson was DFA'd to make room on the roster.

    Addition by subtraction.

I like Rajai Davis. Hopefully Tito lets him run, though. No reason to sign an thoroughbred and leave him standing on 1st base when he does manage to get there.

FOR SURE. I was pretty ticked off in 2013 when Tito sat on Stubbs, Bourn, Brantley and Kipnis. As a team we had a lot of stolen bases, but we could have run more especially against the Tigers who owned us that year.

Tribe picks up reliever Otero from the Phillies...good signing. Guess who is DFA'd now?.............for the umpteenth time...Jerry Sands.

Merry Christmas to you also, T Bone ... And to the rest of the OC Tribe faithful!

There hasn't been any talk about this.... but last week, the Tribe quietly let super-utility player Mike Aviles slip away to the division rival Tigers.

    http://www.freep.com/story/sports/mlb/tigers/2015/12/18/detroit-tigers-mike-aviles/77591534/

Jose Ramirez is expected to fill most of his role.
I can't say I'm happy. I would rather have kept Aviles who was perfect in his role, and tried to use Ramirez as trade ammo.
  • iclfan2
I really liked Aviles, that stinks.
