I don't buy it. Chances are they will keep 3 qbs, would you really keep Ratliff over McCoy. The plan wasn't to play him this year anyhow. He will make the team.

No way McCoy doesn't make the team. Stupid article trying to drum up views to the PD, pretty sad.

I'm pretty sure he'll be making the team but I'm also pretty sure that Holmgren/Heckert will be looking at available QB's in next years' draft too. Granted, he's (McCoy) played behind crappy 3rd team O-Linemen but even Chuckles McBallSack (Charlie Frye) didn't look THIS "deer in headlights" his rookie year.

I agree, in fact I believe I recall Holmgren saying that it was his desire to draft a QB every yr, probably in the later rounds. I'm not a McCoy believer, I think Seneca Wallace might be his ceiling. I dont forsee him ever becoming "the franchise QB", without some improvements in his arm strength. However Brees and Tom Brady both were able to improve their arm strength (or arm speed by QB coaches) over their career so it can be done. Next year is looking to be a good crop of QBs, so perhaps we go that route. However, trying to judge what this current regime is going to do with limited track record to go off is difficult, esp before the season even begins.

That has always been Holmgren's M.O.....draft a QB whether you need it or not and hope they strike gold in a later round.

I have heard a lot of people throwing out the name "Jake Locker" regarding the Browns but frankly I don't think the Browns will even be in a position to draft him. I don't think the Browns will be picking in the top 10 in 2011.

I feel like Brees has always had pretty decent arm strength, it was just a misconception coming out of Purdue that he was too short and his arm was too weak.

I honestly think Colt's arm strength is just fine. He's obviously looked a little shell shocked out there at times and I'm sure the weak protection from the 3rd string OL hasn't helped.
  • Commander of Awesome
the weak 3rd string oline is going against the weak 3rd string dline of the worst team from last season. Not an excuse imo.
  • BR1986FB
From what I've heard, McCoy has an NFL arm so that shouldn't be an issue. He needs to stop telegraphing his passes (staring down receivers).

To get a better read of what he can do, he needs time with the 1's. He hasn't merited that time but I think it's the only way that we are going to see whether he's worth a squirt of piss or not.

There's always going to be a larger number of capable d-linemen than o-linemen since there's so much technique. The guys on the 3rd string O-line are guys fighting for a roster spot that generally have technique that's questionable at best. Combine that with 290 LB d-linemen coming right at you, and it's definitely an advantage for third string defense than third string offense, IMO.
  • BR1986FB
The guys on the 3rd string O-Line are going to be fighting for the right to say "would you like fries with that?", "would you prefer a Camry or an Accord?" or "welcome to Walmart" in about 3 weeks.

Eh I bet they could end up coaching for their respective college teams, or using their family science/general studies degrees to be a bus boy at to local bob evans.

Has any one else seen that there is a chance that DA will be the Cardinals starter this year? Sounds like Leinart has sucked a huge one and since DA has more big play potential (ala 2007) he may get the nod. Man did they suffer a huge fall-off in QB talent when Warner retired.
  • royal_k
DA is starting against the Bears.
