  All 32 teams decided not to waste a draft pick on someone who wouldn't sign. Avoiding someone in the draft who you know won't sign isn't "shits and giggles"
  
  He WANTED teams to draft him late so he wouldn't sign and could then enter next year's draft.

  I know he wasn't eligible, but for special circumstances such as collins, I think he should have had to go through the supplemental draft.

  He told teams he wouldn't sign if he wasn't taken after the 3rd round. Any team could have taken him in those 3 rounds, and any team could have called his bluff and taken him later.
  
  And money will stop future first round prospects from doing that. He's getting pretty much league minimum for 3 years.

  If you voluntarily pass on a guy 8-10 times when he's available, then he may not end up on your team. Thems the breaks.

  50% of the SB starters were 4th round and beyond picks. I would consider them important.
  
  I realize this situation is unique, and I don't know how the NFL could determine whether a guy should be the in supplemental draft or not, but to me in a situation like this it should have happened. The cowboys were pretty much gift wrapped a first round pick.

  Here's the thing. It's a strong, and somewhat stupid thing, to just skip a year. I guarantee a lot of guys might "say" they are going to wait another year and enter next year's draft, but it's a whole different matter when that job offer comes a calling. Even if that's an offer as a 5th rounder. Or whatever he would've been had someone picked him on Saturday.
  
  The ONLY guys with any leverage in situations like that will be someone who has money and could afford to basically be a year removed from any football games. It COULD happen in the future, but most top prospects would much rather get their careers started sooner than later, meaning less time until they can actually get a decent contract. Rookies essentially play their first 4 years for pennies, considering the ones who become impact players probably have 1 shot to actually get paid.

  That statement just doesn't make any sense. Any of the other 31 teams could have grabbed a "first round pick" in the 3rd round (and possibly later, we'll never know). None of them chose to do so. There's nothing unfair about not getting a player that you voluntarily chose to avoid drafting.

  The thing that gives the Cowboys a leg up, on these type of things, is if Gregory goes total headcase, or Collins really killed that woman....Jerry Jones isn't going to fire himself.
  
  Where as if it were the Browns, Ray Farmer would be on the first plane out of town.

  There's also a lot more pressure on Jerry. He takes the heat for just about every decision made by the organization. Heck, a bad route, dropped ball, fumble, game execution, he's involved. You get the good with the bad.

  Kind of sounds like Collins got the raw end here at least financially. Not being a suspect to a crime cost him 8 figures

  Firstly, note the Supplemental Draft is a process designed to allow individuals, who did not enter April’s initial draft, entry into the league. Players typically go the route of entering the Supplemental draft for special or unideal circumstances. Often the cause is underclassmen have not declared their intent to gain early entry into the league in order to be an applicant in April’s draft prior to the listed deadline to do so — and have been ruled ineligible for the forthcoming college football season. Reasons for being ruled ineligible are generally due to academic infraction or disciplinary consequence.

  I don't think really anyone is disagreeing that he should have gone through the supplemental draft. He even requested the league let him drop out of the draft and be allowed in the supplemental draft. The league (Goodell) said no. It's just another thing to go on the resume of the 2nd worse commissioner of all time in all sports.
  
  There really wasn't anything Collins could do about it after that. Every team had a chance to draft him they choose not to. If someone did draft him then Collins could have either signed with them or not sign and just re-enter the draft next year. Since he wasn't drafted he got to do what every other undrafted player does, meet with teams and picks one who wants to sign him.
