2014-2015 Cleveland Cavaliers Season Thread

Heard an interesting stat and I guess it's something to keep an eye....since they have gone on this 26-6 run, in their 6 losses, they have lost to teams with top 15 defenses. In those games, their assists have been below their season average which could mean that the ball movement isn't there and they are relying on their stars/athleticism. If they can continue to move the ball, I wouldn't bet against them but that will be something to keep an eye on in the playoffs.

Seems a bit nitpicky to me.

Here is a summary of what you said. Since the Cavs have gone on a 26-6 run, they only lose when they play worse than normal against teams that are better than normal.

The Cavs are playing as good if not better than any other team in the league, and it isn't just against East teams but quality teams from the West.

    Exactly what I was thinking.

I like Love, but does anyone else think Thompson could give us the same PPG/RPG as Love next season if given his minutes? Had a conversation about it today, could Thompson be a cheaper Love next year if Love decides to leave? Yes it'd suck to trade the #1 pick for a 1-year rented player, but can't change that moving forward.

    No, not at all.

Thompson can't shoot, so his man doesn't have to guard him away from the basket, essentially clogging the middle where KI, and LBJ do all of their damage. TT turned down about 12m a year this past off season, he's going to be getting closer to 14-15m on the open market this offseason.

Next time you watch the Cavs, watch and see what the spacing that having Kevin Love on the floor creates. If Kyrie and LeBron were strictly jump shooters it may not be an issue, but both are supremely more effective when they slash and take the ball to the basket. And for as much as he's struggled this year, Kevin is still a major threat from 3, so he has to be guarded, and somewhat closesly. If you have Timo and TT together on the court, both of their men are gonna clog the paint, and our drive and kick game would be worthless.

I would have just left it at this.

    Probably should've.

Good points. If Love wants a max deal, is he worth a max deal as 3rd option?

Yes, bc if we dont' give it to him, someone will. Many teams with the space would love to give a max contract for his services. If Love leaves, we'll be fairly fucked with no cap space.

Did he get injured today? I didn't catch the game and his numbers were shit.

I think its been pointed out on here before that Love is putting up the 2nd best numbers as a 3rd option in the league. When the 1st and 2nd options are Lebron James and Kyrie Irving (near 20 shots a piece), I think thats pretty solid. His PPG is only down 2 points from his career average and he is averaging 2 less rebounds (maybe something to do with how he is used on offense?) so he really isn't having a large drop off in production.

The two most important things to keep in mind are the fact that he is a 3rd option and it isn't easy to get big name players to come to Cleveland. He compliments the team well. We gave up a lot for him, so I'd be kind of pissed if we let him walk if he wants a max deal. Do what you can to retain talent, even if it means overpaying some. I just looked up Bosh's numbers last season with Love's numbers this season and they are nearly identical in PPG and Love has him by about 3 rebounds/game. So I say, yes he's worth the money, especially if its working.

You give Love the max. Period.

Thing is does Love want to stay? I know it's been leaked a few times that he wasn't "happy". I know the not playing in the 4th probably is irritating too. I hope he stays. Give him the max!

I don't recall anything being leaked about him not being happy. If there was, I assume it was from a hack job Cleveland "journalist" and I ignored it. But like sleeper said the other day, if he doesn't want to win, thats his loss. We win and can pay him so I really don't see the issue.

I've seen some of those articles relating to Love leaving and whatnot, but anyone who is earning a max contract on a championship contending team that still wants to leave to be the star... GTFO. Otherwise, he will enjoy his paycheck and his jewelry collection and stay put.

A practice i've been beginning to adopt after I see a report of Love being un-happy/leaving, is to see who the writer covers as a team, more often than not, its a team like the Celtics/Lakers/Knicks who are gonna be garbage next season.

I'm probably the biggest KLove support I know, and my stance with him has been, Cavs will offer him Max, and best chance of winning. If he decides he'd rather go back to winning 30-40 games and missing rhe playoffs, all because he isn't the man....then see ya later, wouldn't want that type of guy. I also have a hard time believing he's that type of player.

Are you the second wheel? Are you the third wheel? What about your stats?
To them I say: I don’t care. I’ve never played in a playoff game. I came to Cleveland because I want to win. I’ll grab a broom and sweep the floors if it gets me an NBA title.
This tells me really and should tell everyone else all they need to hear when the subject of Love walking comes up. http://www.theplayerstribune.com/how-i-spent-my-summer-vacation/

Whole team was playing like ass, through 3 quarters, in the 4th, when Kyrie, and Kevin both went to the bench, LBJ, Delly, Shump, JR, TT got hot has hell and they rode them to the victory. I wouldn't look too much into it.

Was nice chance to rest KI/KL and still get the win.

They keep linking him to the Lakers but I just don't see it. If he goes there they still aren't very good and probably won't make the playoffs with him. You just never know though. If we were to win the title this year I bet he would consider leaving for a bigger team.

JR Smith rattled home 3 straight 3's busting open a highly contested game. He and Shumpert have been really good. Still can't believe they got those 2 players for the worthless POS Waiters, who, BTW, is shooting even more miserably for OKC than he was in Cleveland.

The schedule is going to get easier in that they only play 2 of 7 on the road in April. Cavs play virtually every game against people who are trying desperately to get in the playoffs.

Don't buy into this resting everyone nonsense either. You want rest? Blowout teams and then sit in the 4th quarter.

People think that the number 2 seed is all that matters, Well nobody knows who will make it out of the West. Plenty of teams over there are neck and neck with the Cavs in overall record.

Would be really nice having game 7 of the finals at the Q instead of on the road.

"I plan on being a Cavalier either way." - Kevin Love to @dpshow on if winning a title this year would effect where he plays next year.

I don't know if he'll stay or go, but he doesn't seem to excited to be there.

and maybe he is happy.. I don't know.. just his interaction with the team doesn't appear that way. Maybe that's his personality though.
