Well homer needs to! He is a power pitcher and that should be an easier game to call for any catcher than a guy like Arroyo where the pitcher needs to finesse and trick the hitter
Bruce started slow two years ago I think and got into a twitter spat with fans I think and then turned it around. Last year we waited and waited for him to turn it around. Wonder if the shift got in his head. Votto usually gets around 50 AB's per ST, so him missing yesterday wasnt a huge deal in the grand scheme of things, but it still sets off the alarm to many of us fans when he says he isnt quite ready yet.

Anyone see latos' comments and his bitchy wife a couple weeks back? What a bunch of losers

Saw his comments but not hers. Funny thing is, after that came out WLW 700 brought up two articles/interviews he gave last year when he was coming back from injuries and was bitching how he was ready to pitch but the training staff wasnt letting him and sending him out for more rehad work/starts!

Someone I know says he knows, not sure how, that last year Lato's got caught in the trainiing room getting a bj from some some woman who wasnt his wife and then he wants to throw stones about what goes on?

Some may be valid....in the locker room shopping online during a game, Chapman sleeping until the 7th, lack of leadership........legit stuff. But who says he cannot be the leader to stop it? Hell, David Wright just ragged on a young player for eating lunch during the intrasquad scrimmage and threw out his lunch. Anyone can be a leader so he shoulda stepped up.

The thing about wrangling people....had to be Bailey. As long as he wasnt doing it during the game....seems just like messing around and having fun.

The only thing I got from the Latos' spewing was that he's ridiculously immature, Homer a bit pot calling kettle black and a liking of Marlon Byrd.

May be a reason why he was traded twice already and is still young and talented.
I recall when the Reds got him a teammate of his, a local kid, mentioned that he was a bit of a problem guy.

Anyone watch the games yesterday and today? Cueto looked good today. Two innings of work, went 3 up 3 down in the first, struck out 2 in the second before giving up a single, then got a ground out after a balk. Chapman looked good in his inning, and Parra impressed me too.

Chapmans gotta be traded within a few months, right?

Or will management wait to see if we are going to be good before they do that?

If we suck in June, keep him around to attract SOME fans. If we are decent, send him away for some more pieces.

I really don't think we need chapman.

I think Chapman is a guy the Reds can re-sign. Look at the contract Kimbrel got. Chapman is already making 8M+ this year. You could probably get him in the 10-12M range. I mean, you're looking at a guy with a limited innings cap and who knows how long his arm will last. If the Reds can pay him what he wants, I don't see why he would leave. Of course, if he's set on playing in Miami, then he's going to go there regardless of price, and the Reds should know that and trade him. Miami is trying to compete and may be in a position to add him.

I'm much more concerned about Cueto.

I honestly think Chappy might take a step backward this year.

Just don't have a good feeling about it.

I agree with this. And the fact that they avoided arbitration with him with a one year contract told me all I needed to know. He is gone after this season. So I think no matter how the Reds are doing, he's traded by the deadline. I mean, you're not going to have him next year. So you might as well either get a few pieces to help try to push you over the top if you're in contention, or get a few pieces to help rebuild for next year if you blow.

    I want Chappy to stay
  • thavoice
I like Chapman, and hope he stays.

but he is on the few guys that I think we can get very good value in a trade and it wouldnt hurt the team much. He is electric when he comes in throwing so damned hard, but his save % isnt astronomically better than everyone else. Great closers are fantastic to have, but a luxury.

I was always in the camp that I wanted to see him start. I think he woulda been randy johnson-esque. I think that window has closed though.

    So....reds insiders...

I saw Chapman pitched two innings yesterday. Two innings.

They going to try to make him a starter? I know Baker didnt want to but the front office did. With Price....and losing Latos, good chance Cueto wont be had, Cingrani a maybe with is injuries...........

I'd give it about a 0% chance they try to make him a starter.

Then why do you think they 'stretched him out' (quote from the reds) to two innings alrealdy this early in camp?

I would guess with the bullpen questions this year, they will look at more 2 inning outings for him.

    Possibly.

but they could wait much later in ST if that was the case.

Why wait if he can do it now?

Maybe because the season is 3+ weeks away. May be looking into it too much but it is possible....
  • Rotinaj
Hey team, can you guys not suck this year? Thanks.

That's probably asking a little much.

I agree with this. I like Chapman, but he's not going to be worth what he's going to command as a closer.

Craig Kimbrel got 4yr/42M. Would Chapman getting say, 4yr/50M, be worth it?
  • thavoice
Well Kimbrel has actually had better stats. Last three to four seasons his ERA and saves have been better than chapman so I wouldnt say he would be worth 2 millio nmore per season

Better ERA. Not better stats. Last year, Chapman's WHIP, K/9, K/BB were superior. His FIP was way down, which is further reflection that he was prone to just giving up some un-clutch runs (he got beat on walk-offs 3 or 4 times, but was dominant every time else).

I do agree with you though, I was just hypothetically speaking given Chapman's profile is a bit higher. Would you sign him to that?

Regardless, quietly, both of these guys are putting together numbers never seen before in MLB (except a few stretches from Mariano Rivera).
