Reds Offseason Thread

Don't you think Cozart will be on the move?
Will miss Latos and CatLatos in the Nati.

Well, Suarez did start a lot for the Tigers-but they had several guys start at SS since Iglesias was out for the season. I would compare Suarez to Cozart-not sure ones better than the other.

Nice should have gotten him last offseason.

Not at all thrilled with this.

Gviing up Lively who had good stats at High A and AA this year.
I guess I am ok with this if the reds want to try and win sooner than later. Would be a few years before Lively would contribute for the reds and they need LF pop right now.
If he can drive in around 90like last year, and the other guys hit like they are supposed to and the pitching does what it does......reds may be able to make a little run.

Not a horrible contact..8 million with a vested 8 million option the year after if he gets 550 AB's. Wont be hamstrung like they were after signing ludwick to that horrible deal

Should have gotten him 2 months before the last off-season to put in CF!

Yep, when the Reds had a higher waiver priority than the Pirates and Byrd would've cost 800K to cover the rest of the season. The Reds failed to claim him (at worst, to just block the Pirates), the Pirates got him, he won a game in September against the Reds and then single-handedly knocked them out of the playoffs.

    Good job Walt!

Sean Marshall with a "setback" while throwing. I thought 2014...er, 2013...er, 2012 was over?
  • Ironman92
I hope he's not in pain and all goes well....but I don't care at all about Marshall on the Reds.

Count me in on someone who thought he wasnt even on the roster anymore.........
Votto wont be playing in the opener today, says he isnt quite ready yet

10-0 ass whooping of the Indians to open spring training.
    Chsmpionship for sure.

Marshall was one of the best lefty relievers in the majors. He comes to the Reds and after about 80% of a season, he's never been the same. 2013 and 2014 were basically lost. I wouldn't care either if he wasn't making 6M.

Heavily used relief pitcher have about the same window as the average RB in football as far as high performance....they may hold on for 12 years but it's not often to be a really formidable relief pitcher for more than 3-4 years.

I agree, but the Reds also traded a very, very solid SP for him. One they could use big time this year, when they dealt away two others.

With that said, count me in the camp that the pitching STILL isn't going to be the problem. Iglesias and DeScalfini are young and unproven, but if Cingrani can come back healthy and Bailey bounce back a bit, the rotation doesn't worry me. Obviously there's still a big mystery with the bullpen...Diaz needs to be solid again and LeCure and Hoover must bounce back. Unfortunately, there still isn't a reliable lefty if Marshall isn't healthy.
  • thavoice
Who knows what happens if he did what the reds expected....becoming their starter. Could Chapman have been the next randy johnson in the rotation?????

I agree though that pitching still isnt their problem. If Hoover is as bad as last year you may see my wife assassinate him! I think she hates him more than she even hates me! Price gets some of the blame, or the front office who kept him up there, but no way he should have gotten that many chances. He seems to have some electric stuff, but man he gets drilled.

If Mesoraco can put up similar numbers or better (even though he missed alot of games), Frasier does what he did, Hamilton grows as player, Bruce and Votto do what they should do, and Philips have a solid year and SOME production outta LF i think the team has a chance.

but as we all know, someone is always hurt, someone always has a bad year but hey...it could happen right?
  • Ironman92
Still concerned Homer can't pitch like the Homer we expect except to Hanigan. Concerned Bruce will continue to stink. Don't trust Votto's knee. Word is that Phillips is lighter and in really good shape.
