friendfromlowryI think he's going to retire, and the Broncos will be in a world of hurt when he does. Only other QB on their active roster is Osweiler.

I know; at a friend's for the game, we were mystified by that. That's what I hate about the "football move" rule -- the standards change from play to play, apparently, as all Cribbs did was catch the ball, immediately get whacked and drop it the instant his body hit the ground with no evidence he ever actually had control. It's just a painfully obtuse rule that seems so vaguely defined, it's essentially causing games to be more controversial than they should be under normal logic.Ironman92;1695112 wrote:Lol....that's a catch but Dez's wasn't -

Thing is, if he doesnt he still is about top 10 in the league.
His postseason struggles baffle me. It is almost like he always trys to outwit, outsmart, and out scheme the defense and always trying to get into the perfect play. He sees the alilgnment, tries to decipher what they will do, what they will move to once they snap the ball and tries to be just so damned precise. They are going so much on the fly that everyone has to be perfect. At some point they just need to play footall and the "perfect" play doesnt always need to be called. Audible out of the bad plays to what the defense shows.
When the weather gets a bit worse it is harder to be so precise.
He is like that finesse pitcher in baseball who always has to change speeds, hit all 4 corners of the zone and just always have the batter off his toes. At some point the best pitchers say 'here is my fastball, now you hit it" and just challenge them. Manning doesnt do that -

Well, yesterday, it just seemed like he was long (and/or high) on every single deep throw he attempted. Anything he did well was a short/intermediate pass, but he couldn't hit the long ball and seemed to have an infatuation with trying to. If anything, he reminded me of Roethlisberger during one of his bad starts, where it just seemed he wanted to do something and was going to keep trying, regardless of whether it worked or not.thavoice;1695298 wrote:I can see him retiring.

wildcats20Scheffty is saying Manning has been playing with a torn quad muscle. Broncos are disputing it though.

Laley23
Well, he is always someone who will take the deep ball in those situations. The Colts were playing bump and run across the line with a single saftey. Manning is going to go deep over 50% of the time on those. Always has. He used to complete them though, lol. Its why no one ever played that defense against him.Heretic;1695313 wrote:Well, yesterday, it just seemed like he was long (and/or high) on every single deep throw he attempted. I seriously think his leg killed his deep balls. For someone who cant do it with his arm (never could), he needs a healthy lower body to be accurate...similar to a MLB pitcher. -

If this is true, I can see him coming back next year for a farewell tour. Like someone said, he's still a top 10 QB.wildcats20;1695314 wrote:Scheffty is saying Manning has been playing with a torn quad muscle. Broncos are disputing it though. -

Very true. When the legs go....you have to throw all arm and most guys cannot do it nearly as good.Laley23;1695320 wrote:Well, he is always someone who will take the deep ball in those situations. Rodgers is a guy with a cannon, and we saw it Sunday. He didnt need his leg to throw darts. Certain (very few) guys fit into that category, Peyton is not even close to one of them.thavoice;1695382 wrote:Very true. Yep, but guys with those cannons are few and far between. I was pulling for Peyton the last two seasons to win it all after it was apparent the steelers werent going to do it. He truly is a good guy. Really hated the turd coming out of college but he kinda grew on me.Laley23;1695393 wrote:Rodgers is a guy with a cannon, and we saw it Sunday. He didnt need his leg to throw darts. What is it...9 times he was one and done in the playoffs. 9 times. The next closest is a group at 4 (dalton, Montana and others). and it wasnt like he was sneaking into the playoffs some seasons....
I think Manning is a smart enough, and enough of a team guy, to not leave Denver hanging. He may tell them his intentions, that maybe he will play 1 more season, and not get butt hurt and actually encourage them to look for their next QB but that is hard to do where they will draft. -
Laley239 one and dones is bad. But, keep in mind how often he "advanced" as a 1/2 seed. He didnt get to pad stats and pick up easier wins as the home team versus a bad WC team.

Eh. I have considered that excuse in the past that his team has had a bye a number of times before and hence didnt get to maybe face the worst team who made the playoffs. I give a little credence to it, just very little because you then also have to realize he has been the 1/2 seed so often so that must mean they have the better team more often......and playing at home many times!Laley23;1695404 wrote:9 one and dones is bad. Have a question for you since you are the few that actually seem like you have a football IQ. What did you think of New England's unique formation this weekend? It was one that I thought of before and wondered why no one had tried it before. -
Laley23I personally side with Harbaugh (sans the bitching). Offense isnt allowed to sub without the defense being allowed time to match...so if you are throwing out #s (literally, as in jerseys) that are eligible...but 1 is reporting as ineligible, you need to give the defense the same courtesy to identify that player. Its the same principle.
That said, its within the rules, so the bitching is ridiculous and accusations of cheating by some is dumber. But, if I was a coach, Id be clamoring for a rule change moving forward.
EDIT: I didnt actually watch the game during this time, so if they were given ample time its a non-issue. But, from the comments, it seems like the player reported as ineligible and very quickly after the ball was snapped. -

I told my brother it's basically legal "cheating". Though it's legal, there's no way the defense can match up. In a time where the rules greatly favor the offense, this will really hurt the league if teams start doing it on a regular basis. Huge disadvantage to the defense.Laley23;1695411 wrote:I personally side with Harbaugh (sans the bitching). As for the timing......the defense must be given time to respond to substitutions and not necessarily to alignments.Laley23;1695411 wrote:I personally side with Harbaugh (sans the bitching). Right, which makes the bitching about cheating stupid. Pats were smart. But, what I am saying, is I think the alignments should be given the same time to match up.thavoice;1695415 wrote:As for the timing......the defense must be given time to respond to substitutions and not necessarily to alignments.
That, OR, the ref announces the ineligible player the way they announce an eligible player. Then the defense doesnt have to worry and can just ignore... -

When i was watching I noticed that he was covered up and thought NE had fucked up their alignment and would get called for it but at the snap he didnt go downfield and I thought...>GENIUS play!Laley23;1695419 wrote:Right, which makes the bitching about cheating stupid. Cannot find the play but Peter king stated there was 7-10 seconds between the time it was announced that the ball was snapped -

For manning, who is 11-13 all together in the playoffs he is 8-6 at home, 2-5 on the road and 1-2 on nuetral fields.Ironman92;1695463 wrote:I would like a list of playoff wins/losses for QB's in road/neutral playoff games
In the 9 one and dones it was 5 losses at home and 4 on the road. -

They're saying it was a mutual decision, but unless Fox is retiring I don't see where he would be in any hurry to leave DEN (unless Manning told him he's done)like_that;1695466 wrote:I don't understand this move by Denver.
On the Manning note, do they promote Gase to HC assuming Manning plays?
