Random Draft Talk

The reality is that he was a unanimous AA, SEC co-defensive POY, and first team all SEC before coming out in February - is it too much to think this guy might get drafted by the SEC-hardon NFL?

He's a shit player and will amount to nothing in the NFL, but at least there's evidence to explain why he was drafted versus the media/public backlash nonsense.
There are DEs that had much better combine results that didn't get drafted. Pretty simple analysis.

Michael Sam had the 2nd worst Bench, the worst Vertical, the worst 3-cone, as well as being in the bottom 7 of the 40 yard dash of all DEs in the draft.

tl;dr: He got drafted because he is gay.

    Combine results versus on-field production.

Reminder: Terrell Suggs had 18 reps and ran a 4.84 at his combine.

Which is still better than Sam.

by 1 rep and 7 hundredths of a second. Same position - one is a 7th round pick, the other selected #10 overall

    Anyway....

Kenny Guiton to attend Bills camp......hopefully he does well. But if not he's set at Ohio State

If Sam makes the team, it will be only because he is gay. He is not a good player.

Perhaps Suggs is just a better football player?

Just because their physical numbers match, doesn't mean they're the same player/prospect.
  • JU-ICE
NFL.com had him projected as a 7th round pick or a priority free agent. Their were guys who had better combine number than him that did not get drafted.

The SEC defensive POY is so ridiculous, he had half of his sacks in one week....against Arkansas St. and Vanderbilt. At least Gholston really performed at Ohio St. - but I need to stop thinking about him. What a bust.

This about combine stats not being the be all, end all metric for judging NFL talent. Sure there were players with better combine results than Sam, but he was also an unanimous AA and co defensive POY in the much beloved SEC. My point is that the Rams probably took into consideration his performance his senior year over his lackluster combine.....the same thing that happened to Suggs.

My hope is that he was not drafted very high because he is of average talent....
He came out on February 10th according to an article I found. Wouldn't the college awards already have been announced long before he came out?

they were. The SEC awards came out in December and I believe the AA awards did as well

True, in spite of the fact he'd be better off not being drafted, particularly by a team where his position is the team's area of strength.

Had to share this with you all. I was watching the draft with one of my friends. He tries to act like he knows what he is talking about, but the more he speaks the dumber he sounds when it comes to football.

When the Titans drafted Lewan, he told me that they were going to convert him to a linebacker. I told him the Titans did not use their 11th overall pick on a OT to turn him into a linebacker project. He bet me a case of beer that he will be a linebacker by November.

Kinda crazy how bad OSUs defense was, yet they still had two first rounders on it.

Rumors that Josh Gordon took two drug tests, one falling below the threshold and one slightly above the threshold for marijuana use. Not enough in the system. Believed to be second hand smoke. It's also believed this may be the reason that the league is revamping it's marijuana rules to be less strict. Would make sense that Farmer didn't panic taking a WR, like many wanted him to, and stayed true to his draft board.
