So true. I don't know a single person who gives a shit that he's gay and will play in the NFL.SportsAndLady;1614992 wrote:Not a single fuck was given but media outlets will explode! -

SportsAndLady"Jeff how many people in the organization were involved on this decision"
It's a fucking draft pick, Suzy. The normal people that are always involved in a draft pick were involved. -

Odds he makes the team? -

There's no chance he makes the team. He is garbage and was only drafted because he is gay.Automatik;1615007 wrote:

Gay people are the worst. -

He was a unanimous all american... Not garbage. I think he would have gone on the second day if he hadn't announced that he was gay. -

He got most of his sacks against Sun Belt teams and disappeared in conference play. He's trash; he'll be selling books rather than playing in the NFL.ohiobucks1;1615090 wrote:He was a unanimous all american... Not garbage. Well, you'd have to add in the fact he was a complete bust at the combine too. Combine that with coming out and, yeah, you have a good point.ohiobucks1;1615090 wrote:He was a unanimous all american... Not garbage. friendfromlowryThink he screwed himself out of some serious money by coming out? I'm not sure what the dropoff is from perhaps 2nd/3rd round pick to getting all the way at the end like he was.
This really isn't news and shouldn't receive all the hype it does. I'd bet a heavy majority of Americans just don't care. But if you ever tell that to the sports media guys on Twitter, they act like we should. -
Commander of AwesomeMichael Sam before senior bowl/combine was 3-5th round prospect, then he timed poorly at the combine and has a position change during the senior bowl. His coming out, I dont think, had much if anything to do with his "fall" in the the draft.

No. He didn't screw himself by coming out. Coming out is the only way he gets drafted.friendfromlowry;1615168 wrote:Think he screwed himself out of some serious money by coming out? I'm not sure what the dropoff is from perhaps 2nd/3rd round pick to getting all the way at the end like he was.

He's a undersized, under-talented lineman who was only drafted because the Rams got a phone call from Roger asking if they would pick him so he didn't have to explain to the media why the NFL hates gays. Coming out guaranteed his selection at least somewhere in the draft because in reality he's not an NFL player. Sorry that truth and reality get in the way of the gay man. Did you see his combine numbers? He was graded as a NFL backup/special teams player at best and "Compares favorably to Chargers 2009 first-round pick Larry English, an overhyped, overdrafted, marginal producer in the pros."friendfromlowry;1615231 wrote:Based on...?
Basically, he sucks and no matter who he bangs at night he still sucks. He's not any good. -
thavoiceMinutes before he was drafted the so experts on ESPN talked how he didn have the physical numbers to get drafted yet.
So..him coming out *** didnt hurt his draft status.
ESPN showing those disgusting shots hurt their status though. -
Manhattan BuckeyeSam's problem is he brings nothing to special teams, is woefully undersized for a DE and his combine showed that he is too slow to play outside linebacker. So where is he going to play. He's a tweener in the mold of Gholston who was a huge bust, but was actually athletic.

How dare you criticize him.Manhattan Buckeye;1615379 wrote:Sam's problem is he brings nothing to special teams, is woefully undersized for a DE and his combine showed that he is too slow to play outside linebacker. He is gay.
He cannot be criticized. -

My question is....was he an All-American because he was gay, or was he not drafted very high because he was gay??friendfromlowry;1615231 wrote:Based on...?
My hope is that he was not drafted very high because he is of average talent.... -

He was an All-American because he had one good season racking up sacks against below- average competition. Most of his sacks came against North Alabama, Vanderbilt, and bottom feeder Florida(this is not your Urban coached Florida, this is a bottom dweller in a shit division). He's not a good player; HE'S NOT GOOD, gay or straight he's not good. The only difference is if he were straight and didn't have all this media attention he would go undrafted.wkfan;1615400 wrote:My question is....was he an All-American because he was gay, or was he not drafted very high because he was gay??

jmogI have no problem with him with regards to his race, sexual preference, religion, etc.
Here are just the facts.
He is a small DE, 6'2" 261 lb.
When you are a small DE you only have a chance in the NFL if you are super fast/quick (think Dwight Freeney). He ran a 4.91 40 yard dash, 300+ pound OLinemen are running a 4.91.
He is not strong, only did 17 reps on the bench, many CBs and WRs did that many.
Good DEs are having verticles of 35" and broad jumps (probably most important thing for a DE's explosiveness) of over 10 feet. His verticle was 25" and his broad jump was 9.5 feet.
Good DEs were well under 7.5 in the 3 cone drill (lateral movement kind of important for a pass rusher), he was at 7.8.
Good DEs were under 4.5 for the 20 yard shuttle (first step acceleration, probably most important test along with broad jump for a pass rush DE), he ran a 4.7.
He's small, not fast, and not strong compared to other DEs. Anyone who says he slipped to the 7th because he is gay is a retard. I hate to admit that I agree with sleeper, he probably only got drafted because of his name recognition from coming out of the closet. If he had not come out, the Rams, or anyone else, would not have had them on their draft-able list of players. He probably would have gone somewhere as a UDFA and got a shot. -

You're reading waay too much into this guy being drafted 7th round vs being an UDFA. The reality is that he was a unanimous AA, SEC co-defensive POY, and first team all SEC before coming out in February - is it too much to think this guy might get drafted by the SEC-hardon NFL?sleeper;1615401 wrote:He was an All-American because he had one good season racking up sacks against below- average competition. He's a shit player and will amount to nothing in the NFL, but at least there's evidence to explain why he was drafted versus the media/public backlash nonsense. -

Exactly--could you imagine the backlash if he wasn't drafted?
