    Alex Smith (8 seasons, 4 full, 3 others as a "starter"): 95 games, 59.5%, 17593 yds, 104 TD, 70 INT, QBR 81.0
    Average season prorated at 16 games/year 2963 yds, 17.5 TD, 11.8 INT

    Andy Dalton (3 seasons, 3 as a starter): 48 games, 60.9%, 11360 yds, 80 TD, 49 INT, QBR 85.7
Average season at 3787 yds, 26.67 TD, 16.33 INT.

If the Bengals keep Dalton 2 more years, the most he can earn is 21M guaranteed.
The Chiefs will be paying Smith a guaranteed 45M.

I fail to see how this deal can be defended and the Dalton deal ridiculed.

#1 because many believe Smith turned a corner 2 years ago with the 49ers.
#2. because many believe Smith is a "winner" while Dalton is a choke artist.

It's not a belief with Dalton. He is a choke artist until he proves otherwise.

Another thing not mentioned, Dalton is very inconsistent. He'll have a few good games followed by a string of stinkers. That could smooth out as he's still a young QB, but that's another area where I think Smith is superior to this point.

On top of the glitch, he is on the wrong team? How does someone drafted by the Browns get placed on the Titans team?

Even more glad I picked up Emmanuel Sanders 2 rounds earlier than the ADP in all 3 of my leagues.

What has Smith ever won? 2 years ago with San Fran, he lost his starting job.
Last year with KC, he was a favorite in a playoff game and lost.

What exactly has he proven to be worth a minimum, 45M guaranteed?

He has one more playoff win than Dalton, also KC was not the favorite to win that game. That was a toss up. If it makes you feel better, I think they are both overpaid. A lot of QBs are getting over paid, just the way the NFL is now unfortunately. There are only a handful of QBs that legitimately deserve 18-20 mil/yr money imo.

I find it funny that everyone likes this contract I even heard one ESPN radio guy talk about Smith at 17 is so much better then Flacco at 21.
  • SportsAndLady
Bengals fans gotta resort to comparing the contract to Alex smiths lol

Didn't the Chiefs score like 40+ in their playoff loss last year?

Also, as of right now you can't even compare Dalton's playoff experience to Smith's. Smith was pretty fucking clutch 3 season ago in the playoffs for the niners. If it wasn't for their punt returner, he would have most likely been a SB QB. As for the KC/Indy game, how can you even put the blame on him for that loss? He had nearly 400 yards and passed for 4 tds (0 ints).

In 3 playoff games he has 9 TDs, 0 Ints, and 873 yards. In comparison, Dalton has had 1 TD and 6 INTS in 3 playoff games. He also is inconstant as COA has mentioned. Looks fantastic one week; the next week he faces a defense that can shut down Green and he looks average at best.

So that's why he catches shit for his deal and Smith does not. Not sure why you keep getting butt hurt about it. Dalton could change, but as it stands, he does not deserve that money. I can think of far better players on that team that deserve that money.

Just the trend of the NFL lately. 17 Million is a "steal." Any contract should be better than Flacco's. That was a joke of a contract.

The Chiefs were a 3-point favorite in Indy last year.

As for the playoff stats, there's no doubt Smith has been better and had more chances in the playoffs. With that said, the argument we heard about Dalton (and Romo, Cutler, Ryan, etc) was that if they can't win you a title, why pay them at all? While Smith might be slightly ahead of Dalton in-terms of value, is he all of the sudden elevated to that category of a guy who can win it all? Could he win it all without a great supporting defense?

What if Jay Cutler, Tony Romo or Phillips Rivers were given the best D in the league? Would they be worth it?

Could Dalton win without a great supporting D? I don't think. As for the rest of your post, I already said too many QBs are getting overpaid. Only a handful of QBs deserve truly deserve to be in the 17-20 mil range.

Also, you're kidding yourself if you think KC was the favorite in that game. Vegas might have said so, but that game was definitely a toss up. Colts were home and the Chiefs were reeling at the end of the season.

The QBs that are worth the $$ can win on the road in the playoffs.
  • Laley23
Chiefs were favored??? News to me...cause they weren't. Unless you found some crazy sportsbook differing from virtually all of Vegas.
After starting the season off 9-0 SU and ATS, the Kansas City Chiefs went just 2-5 SU and 3-4 ATS down the stretch.

Kansas City enters its wild card matchup on the road against the Indianapolis Colts as a 2.5-point underdog at most sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com and also riding a seven-game playoff losing streak.

Through the first half of the season, the Chiefs' excellent play was one of the NFL's top stories in 2013. But the last seven games against quality opponents revealed some worrisome trends.
Kansas City's defense held opposing teams to 17 points or less in each of the team's first nine games, but allowed 27.7 points over the last seven. On the season, the Chiefs finished just 1-5 SU and 2-4 ATS against teams that finished with a record of above .500.

The Colts enter the postseason on a nice 3-0 SU and ATS hot streak, outscoring opponents 78-20 over that stretch. Home-field advantage could play a big role in this game. While the Colts went 5-3 SU and ATS on the road this season, they were much stronger at home with a 5-1 SU and ATS record over their last six home games, including outright upsets over Seattle and Denver.

Lol I was just about to post this. I know this because I bet on the game and remember watching it at a bar and getting really pissed.

Buike has a tendency to throw shot against the wall and hope it sticks.

Smith and dalton both overpaid. However dalton is a upper teen to mid 20s qb who is inconsistent and only good bc he has green at WR. Without green he throws back to back picks to joe Haden.

Alex Smith performs at a high level in the playoffs and is consistent. Neither are top 12 qbs in the league.
  • Azubuike24
For some reason, I thought the Chiefs were almost favored by a FG. I was wrong, just looked it up. The rest of the idea remains the same.
  • BR1986FB
Even Colt McCoy might look good with AJ Green and that defense behind him.
