Regroup and win the playoff, and all is forgotten. The Gold Cup, while great to win, serves as a ticket to the Confed Cup, which is what we all really care about. So, make up for this awful showing and get where we need to be.
How does the playoff work? Play the 2015 champ in a home and home?

How do they determine the home team?

    Not sure.

Location appears to be unknown at this point.

I would assume neutral, or coin flip.

    Confirmed US will host playoff.

Location and time is TBA, but rumored to be October 13th.

This Mexico - Panama ref is brutal. Awful red card, Panama overcomes it, and now a questionable (to be nice) PK call in the 89th minute.

Mexico has been aided by the refs in back to back matches now. What a fucking joke.

Complete joke. A Panama v. Jamaica final would have been best for us

Whatever, host the playoff vs Mexico in Columbus and give as another Dos A Cero.

Lol funny thing is Geiger is considered the best US ref and he did the World Cup. He was just plain awful.

Handling is always a direct free kick. The only time it isn't is when there's a pass back (intentionally by foot OR throw in OR trickery) to the GK and he handles the ball -- those are considered illegal touching circumstances.

I am not so harsh on him from the match. The handling call was a tough one to make. If any team is in Mexico's shoes, they want that call. If any team is in Panama's shoes, they don't want that call. Yes, handling is really the only law that brings in "deliberate" into discussion...but, there's numerous times that handling is called where it's clearly not deliberate too.

The red card early, while I thought it was harsh so early, probably was a good call. Can't lead with elbows to someone's face -- even if there may have been slight/little contact. It's probably a call that needs to be made more often. If he doesn't lead with his elbow and is in better position instead of a "jumping at" position, then it's probably not going to be a red.

Really the only thing I wish Geiger would've done was halt the action in the numerous instances there was debris thrown on the field. That's got to stop. CONCACAF better come down on fans that do that. Player safety is at question here, and that's the referee's main job.

No chatter for a month? EPL, Budesliga, La Liga all started. Champions League and Europa Leagues are both at the group stage.

I haven't missed a game in a while. I love that the Bundesliga is on Fox now.

Big news we missed is that Tim Howard is coming back to the National team. I hope he earns the starting spot against Mexico
  • Laley23
I wish he would stay retired. Wanted him for the Gold Cup to help us get that Confed Cup berth...who does it benefit if he comes back, earns a starting spot, and retires in 18 months again??

Netherlands in danger of missing out on the Euros next year, even with it expanded to 24 teams. Sitting 4th in their group now after losing both matches this week.

Fortunately for them Turkey plays the top two teams in the table next and they allowed Latvia to tie them in extra time a couple days ago.
