Don Delco ‏@DonDelcoOBR 6m Can't the @Browns just at least give Mike Zimmer a call? Dude is a leader of men. Players respect the hell outta that guy.

When is the light bulb going to go off for Jimmy that he can't make the kind of coaching hire he wants because of the presence of Joe Banner?

Haslam strikes me as the type that would love to make a big splash, and yet for the 2nd year in a row we are going to end up with a coordinator who wasn't their first choice.

You said we were going to get mcdaniels and bitched about it. Once again, you were WRONG. Congrats.

They tried. He turned them down. I wanted no part of him, but it doesn't change the fact they are just looking for a lap dog and not a head coach.

You should be alarmed right now with the fact that even the Josh McDaniel's of the world realize that working for Joe Banner is career suicide.

Spin it all you want, but mcdaniels is not the coach like you said he would be. Congrats on being WRONG.

Unless you equate a call asking "do you have interest" with turning them down, you do not know this.

Tressel and Manziel to Cleveland. The use their 2nd 1st round pick to move up a spot to get him.

Browns need to get Manziel and Sammy Wadkins somehow, someway. Deon Lewis will fill the running back spot for now. That team would score points. Jeff Phelps was comparing Manziel with Tarkenton...just like I've done. The other 2 bafoons said Phelps was nuts. Anyone that watched Tarkenton play and then watched Manziel play can see the similarities. Manziel could get hurt, but Fran played for about 18 seasons and was smaller than Manziel. And Fran played before the pussification rules on hitting quarterbacks.

Tarkenton says that he is the greatest quarterback of all time. As OA Bum Phillips would say...."he may not be in a class by himself, but it sure don't take long to take the role call".

To hell with Teddy or Bortles. Draft Manziel and watch the Browns contend.

Don't blame McDaniels for pulling himself out of the running. He's on his last shot as a HC, and he knows if/when it goes bad in Cleveland that he won't get another shot.

I also have a feeling he'll be the next HC of the Pats when Belichek hangs it up.

So Manziel weighs 20 lbs more than Fran.....how big was the average o-line and d-line guys when Fran played 6-1 or 6'2........being about the same height Fran would have a better view for sure. How big and fast were the LB and DE? The LB's and DB's are way bigger or way faster and all are way stronger than almost every guy that played in Fran's days.

I do think Manziel can be a productive starter.....1st ballot HOF guy is a tough comparison.

Fran was a lowly regarded 3rd round pick out of Georgia. He was too small to play in the NFL. The Viking head coach, Van Brocklin couldn't stand his unorthodoxed style and shipped him to New York in the prime of his career.

In size comparison, Tarkenton was 5 11, 170...a midget even in that era. but he never got hurt. Ever. Why? He knew when to bail and rarely took a shot. I'm not saying that there's a road paved to Canton for Manziel. What I'm saying is that Manziel is the only quarterback I've ever seen that has the same escapability as Tark. Running around the backfield, dodging 300 lb. d tackles/ends. Imagine Gordon and Sammy Wadkins having 7-8 seconds to break open. Back to Tarkenton. Fran's completion numbers at Georgia were barely over 50% and his td to interception ration was about 1 to 1. Manziel's numbers are far superior to Tarkenton...not even close. In the NFL, Fan completed less than 60% of his passes, but won a lot of games with his legs. I think Manziel can do the same.

Probably not. But I would package up a lot of picks in order to get it done.
  • Ironman92
Every site I checked had Fran at 6'0 190

Regardless.....I think it's considerably different nowadays. I'll be surprised if he matches Vick.

I love his game and savvy.....I don't think it will be enough to create and produce in a top 12 QB kind of way.

    I've been wrong before.

To each their own....I like the high school games atmosphere but would never watch a high school game on tv but don't go to college (rarely) or NFL due to the amount of time it would take up and the $$$$ when I can watch and pause and slow mo at home. You probably spent less in going to 15 games ( watching 14 wins, with the last 4 being very exciting) than going to 1 NFL game and having a good time.
