2014 Cleveland Browns Offseason Thread

like_thatI still don't get how the Bills are the NFL's sleeper team this year. The lost Pettine, Stevie, Kiko, and Bryd. You have to to think their defense will have a drop off.

Saw a Yahoo story yesterday that had the Jags as a sleeper team to make the playoffs. Dude was slobbering all over Bortles.like_that;1637133 wrote:I still don't get how the Bills are the NFL's sleeper team this year. The lost Pettine, Stevie, Kiko, and Bryd. Don't know how you can bank on EJ Manuel. Browns fans should remember to root for them to lose.like_that;1637133 wrote:I still don't get how the Bills are the NFL's sleeper team this year. The lost Pettine, Stevie, Kiko, and Bryd. You have to to think their defense will have a drop off. -

No clue but this guy from Yahoo attributed the coaching (Gus Bradley), a "cupboard's not bare" roster, a weaker schedule (penciled in an easy "W" versus the Browns) and Bortles as key reasons as to why the Jags should win 10 games.Sonofanump;1637151 wrote:I thought he was close to certain to be sitting and learning a year. -

NFL.com posted that article with a teaser "this 'expert' thinks one of these teams can have a major turnaround." I clicked the linked, and immediately closed it when I saw the jags. They sure as hell don't have an easy win vs the Browns for starters. Also, I understand they somewhat got it together at the end of the year, but as a whole they sucked ass. WoMangini ended the Browns season on a 4 game winning streak, that obviously didn't translate to anything. -

Ya never know. Chiefs had a cake ass schedule last year and they got in. 2007 Browns had an easy schedule and they shit in their hat when it mattered most. A favorable schedule, with some improving players, could vault them into the playoffs. I'd see it as a one year anomaly though as the schedule is typically tougher and teams come back to Earth (see 2008 Browns). I expect the Chiefs to regress this year.like_that;1637155 wrote:NFL.com posted that article with a teaser "this 'expert' thinks one of these teams can have a major turnaround." As a side note, I heard some "highlights" of Joe Haden's celebrity softball game yesterday and the "master of the long ball/home run hitter" was?

Meh, you don't know the strength of schedule until the season is played. The Chiefs actually had quite a few pro bowlers on their team (especially on that defense) where you could see a potential turnaround season.BR1986FB;1637157 wrote:Ya never know. SportsAndLadyIn my experience, when I look at a teams schedule before the season starts and say it's a tough schedule, it ends up being an easy one. And vice versa.

Same. Hopefully that applies to the jags, as they have the Browns on their schedule.SportsAndLady;1637163 wrote:In my experience, when I look at a teams schedule before the season starts and say it's a tough schedule, it ends up being an easy one. And vice versa. -

I think they started the season at 9-0 or 10-0 and I remember people saying "worst 9-0/10-0 team I've ever seen."like_that;1637162 wrote:Meh, you don't know the strength of schedule until the season is played. BR1986FBHoyer's been cleared to go "full go" and, when interviewed, said he was "comfortable with the Browns receiver situation, including tight ends." Of course he's not going to throw his receivers under the bus, like his star receiver (Gordon) did to him nationally, but I think, if healthy, they will be fine at receiver.

They still had the players to do that though and it wasn't like they won the games in the same fashion as the Browns did back in their last playoff season. They put an ass kicking on a lot of those teams. Was their schedule really that weak too? 3 teams in their division made the playoffs and they also played the NFC East. As for the shitty teams, they just raped them. I don't see the jags just destroying the lesser teams.
I just don't buy the Jags or Bills as sleeper teams at all. Way too many question marks, and imo not enough talent (the bills lost talent to FA and injuries). -
lhslep134Chiefs had an easy schedule due to their pathetic record the year before despite having 5 Pro Bowlers. The talent + the schedule made their turnaround not so surprising.
Coincidentally we also had 5 this past year, and shouldn't have that hard of a schedule. Hurts when one of your pro bowlers won't play this year though. -
RotinajA big fat LOL at the fucking Jags being a playoff team. Holy shit what a joke.
-
DeyDurkie5The jags are not making the playoffs. The browns are returning pro bowlers and a competitive team from last year. We aren't returning one of the worst first half of the season teams in the entire history of the nfl. These media guys are a joke and we need to stop giving them clicks.

I think it's a little crazy to expect Cleveland to win more than 6 games this season however and compete for the playoffs. They seem pretty far off right nowDeyDurkie5;1637309 wrote:The jags are not making the playoffs. The browns are returning pro bowlers and a competitive team from last year. Care to expand? Perhaps I should bring up the same thing for the Lions? They had the worst secondary in the NFL last season and instead of using a top pick on a decent DB they took a TE with the 1st pick who is known as pass catching only. Way to take the #3 offense and help it with ANOTHER first round TE. LOLFAIL dumbfuck. Hope Stafford can throw 70 TDs bc the FAILions def is the worst in football. #3 in the division! WOOO!!! /sarcasmClassyposter58;1637710 wrote:I think it's a little crazy to expect Cleveland to win more than 6 games this season however and compete for the playoffs. Not to mention they hired a shitty HC and they play in a division where two teams are already better than them (Chicago/Packers). That division had a "down year" too, and I expect the Packers and Bears to rebound and have a much better season. Top that off with the fact that Stafford has ONE win in his entire career against teams over .500 LOL.Commander of Awesome;1637726 wrote:Care to expand? Classy has only been watching football since 4 years ago, forgive him for not being able to provide any substance to his posts. I can understand people predicting the Browns to do bad based on past performance/trolling, but at least provide substance. -

Browns are actually positioned pretty well to win now. Defense should be very good and their running game should be top 10. W/L record is all going to come down to QB play, which isn't any shocker.Classyposter58;1637710 wrote:I think it's a little crazy to expect Cleveland to win more than 6 games this season however and compete for the playoffs. They will play good defense and try to keep the oppositins offense off the field with a ball control running game, hoping for a punchers chance in the late going.
As a side note, for Browns fans, I was surprised to hear this morning that Justin Gilbert is one of 2 or 3 first rounders that hasn't signed yet. Is this correct? -

Billy Turner, the Dolphins’ third-round draft pick, signed his rookie contract today. That means there are only two unsigned picks from this year’s NFL draft, both first-round picks: Browns cornerback Justin Gilbert (eighth overall) and Titans offensive tackle Taylor Lewan (11th). -

Nice for putting the Browns on the national "map" but he's going to have to show me something on the field.vball10set;1637756 wrote:http://www.bcsn.tv/news_article/show/404281?referrer_id=878183

Right now, he's getting all of the hoopla (although he seems to have stayed off Instagram/out of the media for 2 weekends in a row) while Hoyer is just keeping his head down and going at this competition in workmanlike fashion.
Manziel, as the starter, would be good for the national attention but I couldn't care which one of them starts as long as they win.
