You should have stopped at ''unnormal" smh. -

Yeah..but how does Jason Collin's mechanics when throwing stack up?Classyposter58;1435871 wrote:Of course it's not a choice. Why? It's not false. -

Agree with most of your sentiment, but Jason Collins isn't a hero and he doesn't need a cookie for proclaiming what he chooses to do in his private life.Fly4Fun;1435781 wrote:Not sure anyone is "praising" him because he is gay. People are saying he has courage for coming out in a team sport that typically has lots of machismo. It's not about that individual, but about that individual hopefully showing others that it is okay. It's about him being a role model to those who struggle with their sexuality and are still told in many instances that homosexuality is bad (not as common as it used to be, but still there). -

ernest_t_bassMy feelings are, "big fucking deal." I don't go around celebrating being heterosexual... I just be heterosexual, and get on with my fucking life.

Well you obviously missed the importance of this announcement then.ernest_t_bass;1436005 wrote:My feelings are, "big fucking deal." I don't go around celebrating being heterosexual... I just be heterosexual, and get on with my fucking life.
And classy--just stop. Unnormal? lmao good ol' Toledo education there. -
BORIStheCrusher
Because so many people are treated like shit for being straight, smh. I agree it wouldn't be a big deal if everybody thought the same way but the fact is they don't.ernest_t_bass;1436005 wrote:My feelings are, "big fucking deal." Exactly, what is the "importance?"SportsAndLady;1436024 wrote:Well you obviously missed the importance of this announcement then.
That we now have identified 1 of the 4 homosexuals in the NBA? And now homosexual youth basketball players know they can be a professional basketball player now they have someone to look up to? -

False.SportsAndLady;1436024 wrote:good ol' Toledo education there. -

maybe a teenager who is strugglling with this issue will be more empowered to deal with it instead of committing suicide -

Tim Tebow much? -

So the reason people attack Tebow so much is because he is straight?Manhattan Buckeye;1436052 wrote:"Because so many people are treated like **** for being straight, smh."

The virgin stuff.BORIStheCrusher;1436053 wrote:So the reason people attack Tebow so much is because he is straight? -

Either way, it's a pretty big stretch to compare the two.ernest_t_bass;1436054 wrote:The virgin stuff. -

Or the Christian part.ernest_t_bass;1436054 wrote:The virgin stuff.
I'm not at Tebow fan, and I'm glad the Jets cut him if they don't think he can contribute. But if you come out as a Christian you are ridiculed by the intelligentsia (see Jon Stewart, and his ilk). If you come out as gay you get a SI issue dedicated to you.
Jason Collins is/was a lousy basketball player, and there are gay people in all facets of society. Barney Frank (politics), Martina Navratilova (sports), Tom Cruise (entertainment). There is nothing interesting about this other than some sort of strange self-congratulation. -

while there certainly are gays in all professions...the interesting part comes from the fact that as a society, there is a pedestal that athletes are placed on. a certain bravado and machismo that makes this a story and to a certain extent the christian thing as well.Manhattan Buckeye;1436064 wrote:Or the Christian part.

i think it was more the virgin thing tho with tebow, because there are other christian athletes who have gotten a pass. I dont think we want to see pro athletes as gay or christian tho in general. tebow also had plenty of supporters for a time and had the #1 jersey so clearly everyone doesnt ridicule him -
gorocks99I think a lot of people are religious in sports, and some outwardly so. Pretty much every post-championship interview on the floor involves thanking god.
Tebow really does take it to a different level, which (IMO) leads to the added attention. It's not every athlete that starts every press conference with "First, I'd like to thank my lord and savior Jesus Christ" -
ernest_t_bassLOL. Tom Cruise is gay?

Gblocki think some even question if tebow is gay with the whole virgin christian thing. either way i also think some people hate him for bieng too goody goody and want him to fall. thinking that hes lying or hes a hypocrite or something. its hard to feel bad for him but in a way i do.

Deion Sanders? He did it all of the time after he came out as a "fornicator" and found religion with the Cowboys. Granted I'm going back a few years than some of you guys remember.gorocks99;1436072 wrote:I think a lot of people are religious in sports, and some outwardly so. It's not important to me or probably you. And I'm not trying to say everyone in America can now feel "good" about this announcement.OSH;1436030 wrote:Exactly, what is the "importance?"

But it was very courageous of him to come out, be it, the first person to come out. Lets face it, we have reached a point in time where this isn't going to cause a stir in society. He's gay, probably some organizations and religious groups will throw out some backlash, but overall this is perfectly acceptable to our society; and that is why it is important. -
Gblocki think most guys now a days start with i want to thank god or jesus...but no one beleives them so its ok
