So what is the definition of nearest? Oh yeah, there isn't one.

Is it consequential or not? Is it important or not in the player's mind.

Seriously, he got penalized. He would've taken the penalty and been done with it.

The rules officials said that no penalty was needed, so he signed his scorecard. They later deemed that he should, in fact, be penalized.

Because of that screw-up, he shouldn't be DQ'd for signing an incorrect scorecard. He thought he was ok.

He's gonna end up withdrawing because these people who don't like him on a personal level are gonna hold this against him.

    He won't though.

Joe has already been seen out on the course.

We should know soon. He is going to have to appear on the range soon to start warming up if he is going to play.

I hope he doesn't, but then all the "integrity of the game" Nick Faldos, Brandel Chamblees, and David Duvals will crucify him.

It's gonna be really interesting if he goes off the next couple days and wins.

I hope he wins by 2.

I actually think Tiger might win this week now just to spite everyone.

Then probably come to blows with the first reporter that dares ask him if he considers the win to have an asterik by it.

Wouldn't surprise me to see him never speak to the media again.

I got that feeling tiger is just going to go out and say fuck you to everyone

While I could see that, it would only strengthen their resolve to smear him and diminish his run at Jack as soiled by this incident if he wins.

At hole #15, I took a drop that I thought was correct and in accordance with the rules. I was unaware at that time I had violated any rules.
Waiting to see what else he has to say...

I didn’t know I had taken an incorrect drop prior to signing my scorecard. Subsequently, I met with the Masters Committee Saturday morning..

So can someone explain what happened? I'm just now seeing this (see: waking up). I was watching it live yesterday and remember what he did (I remember Nick Faldo confusing himself whether it was a "red" or "yellow"..whatever that means).

What actually did he do wrong?

It may have already been posted. You can go to Masters.org and click the Live button at the top. Next select Masters- on the range to watch players hitting balls there.

TigerWoods ...with them this morning, I was assessed a two-shot penalty. I understand and accept the penalty and respect the Committees’ decision.

Their line of reasoning is that when someone drops a ball for the purpose of replaying a stroke they have to do so as "nearly as possible."
Proceed under the stroke and distance provision of Rule 27-1 by playing a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played (see Rule 20-5); or
    http://www.usga.org/Rule-Books/Rules-of-Golf/Rule-26/

Originally they had decided he did. But in his press conference afterwards when he said he intentionally dropped it 2 yards behind the previous spot, they deemed that to be in violation of the rule.

That takes us to rule 20-5 which dictates how to do it at different parts of the course, and the penalty for violating that which is loss of the hole in match play or a 2 stroke penalty in stroke play.

I am sick and tired of some people that sit at home watching a golf tournament that have nothing better to do than call a tournament and report a rules violation on a player. This is getting to be too much BS.

Some players have every shot televised and others are rarely on TV. Viewers calling in infractions doesnt play fairly to all players.
