It's Masters Week!

Masters statement says they approved the drop after the round before be signed his card, then a TV viewer called in saying it was incorrect. Not sure he can be DQ'd when the score was approved prior to a weekend warrior calling in.
  • Laley23
Agusta officials saying they OK'd the drop while Tiger was on the green on 18, before he signed the scorecard. Thus, only the 2 shot penalty.

Fuck that. They're letting TV viewers make the damn rulings for them?

After this, and the penalty to Guan also, these officials need tossed.

    He misinterpreted the rule.
Ignorance of the rule they are saying is not an excuse is the point I keep hearing hammered home.

Some of the players on TGC were saying the era of DQ's is now over, and we may never see another DQ if Tiger is allowed to continue playing just because he said he didn't know the rule. Can't any player from here on out just plead ignorance and use the Tiger example as precedent for why they should be allowed to stay in a tournament?

I am surprised at the level of support there is among the ex-players for Tiger to withdraw himself as basically that is what everyone outside Notah Begay (Tiger's good friend) has been calling for.

David Duval just tweeted that Tiger should Withdraw. That he took that drop to gain an unfair advantage as he admitted in his press conference as his reason for going 2 yards back from the original shot.

New TV rule is meant for situation such as when ball moves and player doesn't see it. Player ignorance toward rules does not apply here.
Tweet from Jason Soebel not long ago. Might explain why players seem to be up in arms about Tiger being given a free pass.

You do realize the 2 yards are not the issue right?

And David Duval needs to worry about how fucking fat he is and the fact that he sucks ass.

Dude, it's not like he isn't getting penalized. He unknowingly admitted in his interview after the round that he messed up. Once it was deemed that he had, in fact, violated the rule, he accepted the penalty. If they had made the correct ruling before telling him to sign his card, he would've taken the penalty and been done with it. The only reason DQ was ever an option is because he signed an incorrect scorecard. However, the new amendment saves him. I don't think he should DQ himself since the rule states he shouldn't have to, but all these old guys are gonna pressure him into it.

    What?

Tigers isnt being allowed to stay because of anything you just said. He is being allowed to stay because the ONLY reason it was brought up was because of TV (some guy calling in). The new rule states if its HDTV related that its a 2 shot penalty. Tiger had the drop OK'd before he signed the card by officials. To DQ him for that would be ridiculous, the 2 shot penalty would have been enforced last night before he signed if they realized it was wrong, so that is the correct ruling, imo, after the fact as well.

How much of a damn advantage if any did he get from a tiny difference in where the ball was laying....in the middle of the F'ing fairway
  • Laley23
Rick Reily is saying that officilas DID tell Tiger they reviewed the drop and said it was legal before he signed.

The argument seriously shouldnt be about whether he should WD or be DQ'd. If that is true, the argument should be if he should even have to have a penalty assessed to him lol.

It's all about his interview now though. He admitted that he played from further back, so he's screwed. If he wouldn't have said that, he would be fine. He clearly didn't realize that it was an issue or he wouldn't have said that. This is so crazy.

Exactly. He was told the drop was legal.

Also Brandle is a fucking clown.

Agreed. I'm watching this and just wanting to punch him right in the face. lol

    Oh I get that.

Im saying that playing from further back results in a 1 stroke (or is it 2??) penalty. If the officials had told him that before he signed, instead of saying it was ok, he takes the penalty then and we have ZERO issues. Because the officials gave him a horrible ruling/advice/whatever Tiger signed. It seems appropriate to me to just asses the penalty he would have had before signing and call it a day. Using the TV loophole was a good way to go about that, since it technically fits in this scenario anyway.
  • wildcats20
The fact that they let TV viewers call in is a fucking joke also.

Imagine a basketball game and you see a foul that wasn't called. Oh. Just call up David Stern and say there was a foul.

We agree completely. I was just reinforcing what I had said before.

Tiger messed up, but he didn't do it intentionally. The rules officials dropped the ball on this by saying he was good, letting him sign the scorecard, and then changing their mind because of what he said.

I would like to know who the douche was that actually called in and questioned it after watching on TV. Probably David Duval. lol

They deemed it okay beofre he finished the round, that the 2 yds were inconsequential and fit the spirit of the rule. But then after when he said he looked at the options and played it from 2 yds further back, and tried to hit it 2 yds easier, that tells you that he thought the two yds that were originally deemed to be inconsequential, were important to him after how his first shot was a little long. So since he tried to intnetionally stretch the rule he got a 2 shot penaly. I think they ruled exactly right at each step along the way. If it wasn't for him telling what he was trying to do, he wouldn't be penalized.

That recent panel made a good point about Tiger looking better if he were to withdraw right now than if he were to come back and win the tournatment with this cloud hanging over him.

The "Tiger is a cheater" (pun intended) meme is flying around Twitter already and only figures to get worse.

Golf is just a bit ridiculous... that's all there really is to say about this situation.
  • mhs95_06
If there was a mistake, it was the rules people who reviewed it before the round was completed should have reaized that as meticulous and exacting as Tiger is, that the 2 yds must have been intentional and important to Tiger, and ruled it a violation of the rules in the first place.
  • vball10set
lol at these douchers calling in...get a fucking life

"Good point"? That's open for debate

If he doesn't make the comment he did in the interview we aren't even talking about this right now.

It was probably CCrunner, he dislikes tiger enough to do so
