SonofanumpI can not find a link to the video. Can someone post it?

SonofanumpI finally found it. The material restriction occurred 7-8 yards deep in the end zone, the ball was touched (then intercepted) by a different defender 3-4 yards in the end zone, about 4 yards ahead of the receiver. I see why the back judge threw the flag and why the field judge had him pick it up. Although the material restriction was just prior to defensive touching, the receiver would not have made it back to touch the ball first. Defensive holding could not have been called, the ball was in the air. The only call possible would be defensive pass interference, but the ball has to be catchable, and it was touched by a defender 4 yard ahead of the receiver. Purely a judgement (based upon rule, philosophy, & visual perception) call by the officials, nothing replay could change.

Can't blame him -

Had a big enough gap to get really close if he fooled the one defender at all. Most likely he doesn't fool him and his lack of speed maybe gets him to the 1. In no way was it a dumb play....but it wasn't what the paying crowd wanted to see.SportsAndLady;1540850 wrote:He would have gotten killed

I wouldn't want my franchise QB getting seriously hurt when they're 2-8Ironman92;1540864 wrote:Had a big enough gap to get really close if he fooled the one defender at all. No one does....just saying he had a big gap to his right and he could've made the head fake left and plant foot left (right at where he slid)....if the LB bites at all he could've likely made it....had he not fallen for it there still would've been room to get down without danger.SportsAndLady;1540867 wrote:I wouldn't want my franchise QB getting seriously hurt when they're 2-8 -

And when have you ever seen Matt Ryan make a guy miss? lol come onIronman92;1540869 wrote:No one does....just saying he had a big gap to his right and he could've made the head fake left and plant foot left (right at where he slid)....if the LB bites at all he could've likely made it....had he not fallen for it there still would've been room to get down without danger. -

We'll just have to disagree. There was still a decent gap between the two. I think there was a 25%-40% chance he scores there if he tries. Maybe 1% chance of getting hurt.SportsAndLady;1540871 wrote:And when have you ever seen Matt Ryan make a guy miss? lol come on -

Not worth even that much risk at this point.Ironman92;1540878 wrote:We'll just have to disagree. There was still a decent gap between the two. I think there was a 25%-40% chance he scores there if he tries. Maybe 1% chance of getting hurt. -
hasbeenI get what S&L and QCB are saying, but it was an opportunity for him to lift his team up with a huge play. He takes the slide and now there's people thinking 'he's just a primadona QB like the rest.'
Yeah, they're 2-8. They could finish 8-8. Not likely, but a play like that could have given them a boost to win last night. A win last night could have given them momentum to finish it out strong. Now they drop to 2-9.
It's an image thing. I understand why he slid, I understand why Mike Smith was okay with it. I'm sure ownership was okay with it, too. If I was a teammate, it would send the wrong message. To me at least. -
like_thatAs a fan, if my team actually had a franchise QB, and we were having a shitty year, I would be perfectly fine with him sliding. Also, LOL at ironman thinking Matt Ryan makes one of those guys miss.

Shit man even if they had a shot at the playoffs I'd be fine with it. I agree there was no way he was getting pass the 2 defenders who were right there.like_that;1541180 wrote:As a fan, if my team actually had a franchise QB, and we were having a shitty year, I would be perfectly fine with him sliding. thavoiceReally wanted to blast him and call him a *****, but aint no way he gains much more if he doesnt slide, but a real chance he gets popped BIG TIME and fumbles the ball, or gets hurt.

It's sort of sad not having Sanchez starting this year. I'm missing moments like that in my week-to-week life.gorocks99;1541347 wrote:One year ago today; never forget.

It's not really making him miss.....he needed 4 more yards......if he got that LB even leaning he could've had a good chance IMO. I know I'm always wrong about sports though.like_that;1541180 wrote:As a fan, if my team actually had a franchise QB, and we were having a shitty year, I would be perfectly fine with him sliding. Tom Brady tries to make it to the end zone on that play....guarantee it. As a fan.....Peyton Manning is the only QB in the league I would've wanted him to slide at the 4 yard line and giving himself up.
Again.....I simply do not see the risk at all. He had plenty of space to see and then get down if he needed to. As for the franchise part, what's it matter? They were 2-7, playing at home and on prime time. God forbid he ATTEMPT to make a big play for his team. Has Mr. Franchise ever won them anything? Far more likely to get hurt on the sack. -

Only 1 LB in his line......a DB over near the right sideline was the given gap.Iliketurtles;1541186 wrote:Shit man even if they had a shot at the playoffs I'd be fine with it. I agree there was no way he was getting pass the 2 defenders who were right there. -

From this moment he planted to go left but fully and once he did that he committed that direction and included several other defensive players making it absolutely 0% chance of him not getting there and getting mashed.....so he slid at the 5 and was touched at the 4 by that LB.
All I'm saying is that from this place where he initially planted if his next step is a plant to the right he has a few steps to see if he has a chance. His commitment at the 10 yard line was unnecessary.....he had at least 3 more yards to get down safely if needed.

This. There is no play at that stage of the game, regardless of record, that justifies the downside risk.Iliketurtles;1541186 wrote:Shit man even if they had a shot at the playoffs I'd be fine with it. I agree there was no way he was getting pass the 2 defenders who were right there.
