  Pens PK looked good, Sutter was great. Detroit is just flat out bad. Holtby won't be the same without Dale Hunter's system. St. Louis is the best team in the west. Columbus playing as they did in 00-01, as a team and grinding you down. The Wild are going to be very, very good. Jagr and Selanne looked great for being 40+. Canucks played terrible.

  Yeah I think the playoffs may very well be a pipe dream but who knows, that game was painful

  Yeah, the Red Wings have the proper prospects and cap space to make some big moves however as they should. They just need to gel a little more first as well, I cannot write them off completely yet. They do need to become a much more physical team however, St Louis flat out bullied them

  Holland really doesn't like grinders on his team, never really has. He needs to add toughness to the lineup, other than Tootoo.

  NBC drew a massive (for hockey) 2.0 overnight rating for regional coverage of the Penguins and Flyers as well as the Kings and Blackhawks, which included the Kings' banner-raising ceremony. This was the best overnight rating for a regular season NHL telecast (not counting the Winter Classic) since Jan. 12, 2002. That day, ABC was airing regional coverage, led by Rangers-Flyers, which was Eric Lindros' return game to Philadelphia. That gives you an idea of how long it's been since we've seen NHL ratings this high.As is often the case, the local markets won the day for the network and the league. Pittsburgh drew a bonkers-for-the-regular season 19.4 rating. That's an indoor record for an NHL game on NBC in the market. The same was true for Philadelphia (7.8) and Chicago (6.6). Los Angeles, which hosted it's banner-raising, drew a 1.5 in the market. That was the best in L.A. since 2007. While that might not seem too high, remember that not only is Los Angeles a huge market, the game was a blowout fairly early on.
  In case you're curious, NBC's first broadcast out of the last lockout (obviously in a full, 82-game season) drew a 1.5 overnight with regional coverage -- led by Rangers-Red Wings -- on Jan. 14, 2006.

  The Flyers/Penguins and Kings/Blackhawks actual game coverage (3:30-6 p.m. ET) drew a 2.0 overnight, and peaked at an eye-popping 2.9 later on in the day. The rating was up 67 percent over the NHL on NBC's average for the 2011-12 regular season. It was also up 82 percent from last year's comparable coverage (CHI vs. DET 1/14/12: 1.1 overnight).Here are the top five local markets for NBC's coverage of the NHL yesterday:
  1. Pittsburgh - 19.4/38
  2. Philadelphia - 7.8/16
  3. Chicago - 6.6/15
  4. Buffalo - 6.6/13
  5. Boston - 2.5/6

  Detroit looked a hell of a lot better there than they did the other night. IMO they need to split up Datsyuk and Zetterberg but that line was creating all sorts of havoc, Brunner just needs to finish there. They're improving, a lot of players that need to gel. Watching Toronto/Buffalo on GC, entertaining as well

  Boy is it me or does this season have little to no defense? It seems like all these games have been high scoring. They've also been incredibly physical and played hard. I love this shorter season, lets put it at a 66 game max next year

  Yeah and I love hockey too so I wouldn't mind a 100 game season to be honest but for stats sake you have to leave it at 82. It's a lot like baseball statistics wise, basketball is more of a per game sport so it would work better

  Tuukka Rask is looking solid out of the gate for boston. 1.00 GAA in 2 games. Seguin had some great chances but couldn't capitalize yesterday against the Jets. Hopefully he can get one in soon and get into a rhythm.

  The thing that stood out to me early on this season is the change in mentality in the Buffalo Sabres. Adding Scott and Ott has provided a physical edge they've needed for a long time. Even Drew Stafford stepped up and took on Hartnell (and held his own) after Hartnell ran one of the little guys from Buffalo. Vanek had a big couple of days. They really need him to live up the expectations from early on in his career.
  
  Could have a solid team in Buffalo which is good b/c it's a great hockey city.

  Rags have no depth that's their issue. They got rid of depth for the most overrated player in the league.

  Yeah Detroit has always placed the highest value on puck possessors. They just don't have the scorers this season that they normally have
