I just want wins. The QB arguments will always be there. It's the nature of the (Cleveland) beast.like_that;1376659 wrote:If the Browns find a successful QB, what will be the better outcome you are looking for:

Lol no, it won't. Soon as we draft a QB that is actually, you know, a good QB. We keep drafting "okay" QBs and we have fans who believe in them (me and McCoy, you and Weeden), and fans who realize they are not very good (me and Weeden, you and McCoy). Hence, there will be arguments.BR1986FB;1376664 wrote: The QB arguments will always be there.
If we drafted Russell Wilson this year instead of Weeden...would there be a QB argument? -

Honest question for you--watching these NFL playoffs. Do you really think Weeden will have the capability of doing anything these guys (Flacco, Kaep) are doing? Would you "believe" in Weeden to win on the road in the playoffs? How about just win a football game in the playoffs?BR1986FB;1376656 wrote:Yeah, he was. Weeden brought a different dynamic/threat that McCoy could never bring....the ability to throw the ball vertically. He may have sucked, at times, but at least teams had to gameplan for the threat of a vertical attack.
People got spoiled with the rookie seasons of RGIII & Russell Wilson. Those guys are exceptions, not the norm, as far as rookie QB stats go. Weeden's stats, although far from great, were not all that abnormal for a rookie. He just gets shit on because he's 29 years old and people expected him, at that age, to step in and be Peyton Manning as a rookie.
Unfortunately, as was mentioned by COA, Shurmur was a big reason for the QB issues. I used to think McCoy was an absolutely shitastic QB but I wonder what both he & Weeden will look like in Chud's offense (should McCoy still be here). I'd bet the farm that with the likely elimination of these short slant patterns that both McCoy & Weeden's batted down passes decrease significantly.
Let Weeden play in an offense that's more suited to his strengths for another year and if he sucks, next. Grabbing an Alex Smith is just a stopgap for when the next QB comes along. Why waste the money?
You KNOW your gut feeling says no...so why not just cut ties with the guy and go another route? I just don't understand how some Celveland fans latch onto QBs so easily. I, and others, were perfectly fine when they said "next" to McCoy after 1 year of playing. We thought he could be okay, and we were wrong-so we moved on. Why this fascination with Weeden? Is it because he was a 1st round pick? Do you need 3 years out of a 1st round pick to be able to fully say he's not good? Whereas you just need 1 year for a 3rd rounder? -

If we drafted Russell Wilson or RGIII this year do you REALLY think they would have been AS dynamic in Patty Fuckface's antiquated 1980's offense?SportsAndLady;1376667 wrote:Lol no, it won't. wes_mantoothI hate these qb discussions because most of it is childish name calling, but honest question for people that don't want to give Weeden another year...who is on your wishlist? I think Weeden is a backup at best, but I just don't see the upgrade out there this year. Alex Smith?....game manager, Geno Smith?....Jamarcus Russell, or Matt Barkley....USC guys scare me. I am all for upgrading, but there are plenty of other positions that need addressed, this is a 5-11 team afterall.

Okay so your point is that Weeden's inaccuracy and poor decision making was all because of Durpmur? 100%?BR1986FB;1376669 wrote:If we drafted Russell Wilson or RGIII this year do you REALLY think they would have been AS dynamic in Patty Fuckface's antiquated 1980's offense? -

I want them to draft a guy they are not attached to, so he can sit the year behind Weeden or McCoy, whoever wins the starting job, while we suffer through another rough QB year. Now whether that guy comes in the 1st round or 5th, I'm not sure right now.wes_mantooth;1376670 wrote:I hate these qb discussions because most of it is childish name calling, but honest question for people that don't want to give Weeden another year...who is on your wishlist? Edit: There hasn't been any name calling...although BR did call me dumb -

No. What I said in my comment is that there's no way in Hell that RGIII or Wilson are OROY candidates in Shurmurs offense. Shurmur's not going to adapt his system to RGIII's ability to run. It's going to be the old "3-5-7 step drop my way or the highway." I don't think ANY QB would thrive in that system. For godsakes, he taught the WR's to run 3 yard patterns on 3rd & 8 and try to "fight for the extra yards."SportsAndLady;1376671 wrote:Okay so your point is that Weeden's inaccuracy and poor decision making was all because of Durpmur? 100%?
I just want to see Weeden in a system suited to him. If he sucks, move on. I'd say the same about looking at McCoy in Chud's system, since it will be more suited to him also, if I though he had the physical tools to get the job done. -
BR1986FB
And if they see that guy that they are absolutely in love with I have no problem with this statement. I'm just not sold that the "guy" is in this draft.SportsAndLady;1376672 wrote:I want them to draft a guy they are not attached to, so he can sit the year behind Weeden or McCoy, whoever wins the starting job, while we suffer through another rough QB year. I'm not totally sold on Weeden like "OMG...we gotta give this guy the next 5 years." Give him 2013 in an offense that's suited to him, if he sucks, turn the reigns over to someone else. If he thrives, you move forward with him as the QB until his gas runs out. Not all that complicated. -
wes_mantoothI tend to think that RG3 would have flopped, but Russell Wilson may have been marginally better. Shurmur would have ruined RG3s career or at least stunted it. Russell Wilson just passes the eye test, has the "it" factor.

Okay so if we had Rg3 or Wilson, we wouldn't know they are very good and there would still be fans arguing over the QB?BR1986FB;1376674 wrote:No. What I said in my comment is that there's no way in Hell that RGIII or Wilson are OROY candidates in Shurmurs offense. Just answer the fucking question BR..with Russell Wilson, would there be fans arguing over our QB situation? -

I'll save you the suspense BR...Weeden isn't any good.BR1986FB;1376676 wrote:And if they see that guy that they are absolutely in love with I have no problem with this statement. I'm just not sold that the "guy" is in this draft.

The Browns were not going to make the playoffs with Shurmur as head coach, so yes there would be arguing about the QB.SportsAndLady;1376680 wrote:Okay so if we had Rg3 or Wilson, we wouldn't know they are very good and there would still be fans arguing over the QB?

I don't think so..Russell Wilson is a stud. Any fan that watches every game would see that, and see that Durpmur is the reason they are not progressing as a team.like_that;1376682 wrote:The Browns were not going to make the playoffs with Shurmur as head coach, so yes there would be arguing about the QB. -

Stud or not, Shurmur is a QB killer. I don't think Wilson would've been half the QB is was as a rookie under Shurmur. From what I've seen Shurmur is kinda like that dog owner who beats his dog until it loses it's "will or spirit." He'd do that to almost any QB. Glad Chip Kelly has him now.SportsAndLady;1376689 wrote:I don't think so..Russell Wilson is a stud. Just because he has a different skill set, doesn't make him an upgrade. An upgrade would suggest that number wise he is better than McCoy, not the case. Do you really think you can win in this league with a one trick pony? He's very much Derek Anderson 2.0. Big arm, inaccurate, immobile, and suspect decision making. I'd rather have a game manager that can get you to 8-9 wins as opposed to a gunslinger that can get you to 5-6 wins.BR1986FB;1376656 wrote:Yeah, he was. RotinajShurmur is an absolute retard when it comes to offense. How the fuck he keeps getting jobs is beyond me. Weeden may not be amazing but he deserves another year especially since this draft is fucking awful for qbs. Geno Smith COULD be ok but he won't be there at 6 and no way he's worth trading up for. If they like a qb they can get in the 4th or later rounds then fine but it would be a huge waste to take one at 6th.

BR1986FB
I don't want Alex Smith either. I think he'd be nothing more than a stopgap. Save the money and use it on a stud defensive player or a guard. As I said before, franchise QB's (unless they are injured ala Drew Brees) don't hit the market in free agency and certainly don't get benched.SportsAndLady;1376714 wrote:]
