I've Seen Enough of Brandon Weeden

So you admit that it takes time for a quarterback to develop, yet you want to keep drafting them until you find one who plays like a veteran as a rookie. Hint: they don't exist.SportsAndLady;1326562 wrote: You're really not concerned that our QB will be 32 by the time hes fully developed? Lol seriously? No concerns?

But, at this point, we don't know how good he will end up. It's crazy to start over again after one year, not give him the chance to show what he can do. He's shown glimpses of being a good QB and has very good tools.Rotinaj;1326574 wrote:Comparing weeden with other qbs who sucked in their first year or first few years is kind of dumb. There have been manyyyyyy more qbs who sucked in their first year and continued to suck throughout their career. Not saying this is how weeden will pan out but elway and Eli are exceptions not the rule. -

The only thing comparable is that no one knows how much he'll improve if at all from year one to year two. No one.Mulva;1326578 wrote:Eli didn't have a rookie wage scale, new owner/president (and soon enough coach and gm), and he was 23 years old.
Also, he went 11-5 his second season. Unless you're tebow-bad, winning qb's don't get jettisoned.
Too many differing factors for the situation to even be comparable. -

Showing glimpses of being a decent qb every 3rd game isn't impressive. Any qb can do that. I'm fine with giving him another year but I'm not gonna get my hopes up.royal_k;1326583 wrote:But, at this point, we don't know how good he will end up. And consistency is probably one of the last things to come with a rookie QB.Rotinaj;1326590 wrote:Showing glimpses of being a decent qb every 3rd game isn't impressive. Any qb can do that. I'm fine with giving him another year but I'm not gonna get my hopes up. -

Fare enough. The Eli argument certainly favors your side. I'll grant you that. The problem as I see it.....the Eli development is an anomaly....and not near the norm.Commander of Awesome;1326521 wrote:I encourage everyone to look at Eli's rookie stats. 45% completion, 6 TDs, 9 Ints. 55 QB Rating.
Next season 75 QB rating. He was in the NFL 5 seasons before he had a QB rating over 80. Weeden passes the eye test for me. Colt didn't. Weeden has the tools, now he needs an OC when his head not up his own ass, and WRs who can catch the fucking ball. Weeden IMO will be fine for the browns. -

The point is it is fucking idiotic to jump the ship on a first round QB after the first year. If it was a 3rd round QB, sure he can GFH and draft another QB. I wasn't a fan of the Weeden pick, still not, but i think he will be alright and if the Browns keep building around the D, and add a few more pieces on offense they will be tough. They will look similiar to the Texans. Schaub would look just like Weeden if he was playing with the Browns right now.Footwedge;1326599 wrote:Fare enough. The Eli argument certainly favors your side. HitsRusIf it was a 3rd round QB
I think he was a 3rd round QB...we just drafted him in the first round. -

Well guess what? He wasn't, he was a first round talent and that's where he was drafted. To give up on a rookie qb taken in the first round After ten games is absolutely idiotic. Give the dude a chance. -

Your post here illuminates the idiocy that postulates that "well, you have to play the higher draft picks...or those that get paid the most". Doesn't work that way. In the real world, credentials, possibilties, or probabilities don't matter once you enter the workforce.. Results are the only thing that matter.like_that;1326699 wrote:The point is it is fucking idiotic to jump the ship on a first round QB after the first year. In your myopic view of the world, people like Tom Brady would never have seen a professional football field. -

Keep "boo hooing." Barring injury, your boy isn't getting in there. They've seen that he's a shit sandwich in 22 games. Weeden has played 10. I think they'll evaluate him a little longer. Like_that's post is spot on.Footwedge;1326863 wrote:Your post here illuminates the idiocy that postulates that "well, you have to play the higher draft picks...or those that get paid the most". And WTF is "myopuc?" I'm assuming myopic. -

Actually much older. It's a well known fact that Weeden helped Lincoln write the Gettysburg Address. :rolleyes:Pick6;1326891 wrote:IF Weeden ever develops, I sure as hell hope it doesnt take 5 years. Thatll make him what..60? -

Thanks for trying to not ruin my thanksgiving, however the fact you tried to correlate the "real world" to professional athletics makes me LOL. Have a good thanksgiving.Footwedge;1326863 wrote:Your post here illuminates the idiocy that postulates that "well, you have to play the higher draft picks...or those that get paid the most". What makes him a 1st round talent? Because that's where we drafted him? Or was it his 45% completion under pressure in college? Or the repeated open receivers he's missed?shook_17;1326841 wrote:Well guess what? He wasn't, he was a first round talent and that's where he was drafted.
He's better than McCoy but neither of them are going to lead us to the playoffs. Weeden has been in position to win games for us, and has failed miserably. Feel free to infer whatever meaning you want, but facts are facts, and it's a fact he hasn't been good. He CAN be good, but the blame/credit solely goes to him right now.
