I think Choo will be fine in CF, but I wondered why Bruce wasn't played in CF when we had Stubbs sucking wang last season

    Dusty'd.

Also, Jocketty has been maybe the best GM in the league over the last couple years. This is impressive.

JJ Cooper ‏@jjcoop36 Reds have C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, LF, RF, 5 SP and closer under team control through '14 All but 1 SP (Bailey) of group under control through '15

Which is why I said earlier I could possibly see Choo resign, even if it's just a 1 year contract. He may really like playing in Cincinnati and playing with the guys on this team.

Playing on a playoff contender at this time in his career (10 yr vet) may be very appealing to him. If that's the case, Cincy will be a good place for him to hang out long term and help ease Hamilton into the bigs. Less pressure on Hamilton when he comes up.

Boras won't let that happen, and Walt has basically said he's good with the one year rental of Choo to get to Hamilton.
Choo is probably a one-year fix, the Reds will consider extending his contract, but Jocketty did not sound hopeful.
“It’s something we’ll look at,” he said. “But we think Billy Hamilton will be ready (in 2014). That’s why we went with a guy with one year left, rather than someone we would control for two. Those guys would have cost more in players.”

Might as well rename the moon deck the Choo-Deck. I figure we will see quite a few lead off dingers landing in the seats this year. Love the addition of Choo the Redlegs. Best of all we no longer have to pitch to him. He feasted on Reds pitching during interleague.

Also imagine a Cleveland outfield of Brantley, Stubbs, and Swisher. That might produce 500 strikeouts in a season. Call Cleveland the windy city with all those swings and misses.

Also, if North Korea actually gets a missile to launch could Choo be forced back to South Korea for military service. That will ruin your all-star break.

Kim Jong Un you wily bastard, he is probably a Cardinals fan.

I love this trade for the Reds. This fixes the biggest hole in the Reds lineup....leadoff. HUGE upgrade! And we got rid of Stubbs......two birds with one stone. Votto and Phillips must have said Merry Christmas to themselves with this news. Lots more RBI opportunities for both and less times the bat is taken out of Votto's hands with intentional walks.

No. Choo got out of his mandatory service by leading South Korea to a title in that Asian baseball tournament.

2010 was undoubtedly his best season, and if not injured in '11, 2012 might have been a monster season for Choo - despite being in Cleveland - and 2013 could make him a household name. Only if he can stay healthy, of course, which is obviously hard to tell.

I think he'll stay healthy and solidify the top of the Reds line-up. I really like his game offensively. He'll most likely be atop the order. 400 of his 598 plate appearances were from the lead-off spot - batted .310, had a .389 OBP, .493 SLG, 124 hits, and 33 of his 43 doubles. He's also patient at the plate, 4.1 pitches per appearances. (Joey is something like 4.3).

Everyone talks about his 2010 season, which is true, but his 2012 numbers weren't that far off. Playing at GABP should only improve his game at the plate. He actually posted a career high in 2B with 43. The important things is, more often than not, Choo will be on base when Votto gets to the plate.

A very underrated part of this move was upgrading our already good outfield, defensively. Choo and Bruce have some of the best cannons in the NL, teams will not be running on them.

The same reason why they dont move Phillips to SS when Cozart was down.

As a general rule you dont switch the positions of your best players to fill in at another spot. Ya tend to keep them at their position.

Lets say you move JB to CF when Stubbs was bad. Presume Heisey to RF? In that scenario I think you weaken TWO positions defensively. Heisey wont play a better RF then JB would, and JB wouldnt do andy better than Heisey, or stubbs, in CF so ya make two spots weaker.

Stubbs was struggling offensively in CF, so then Heisey or whomever takes over and ya leave your stud RF where he is at.

You guys are becoming Indians south at this point.

Reds sign Jack Hannahan to a 1 year, $2 million deal.

    http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/12/12/reds-sign-jack-hannahan-to-one-year-2-million-deal/

This should put to rest any dreams Scott Rolen has about trying to come back to the Reds as has been reported recently.
