I may be wrong on this but isn't Choo in a contract year? If so, I see him walking for NO compensation.

Next year, I believe (so they'll trade him for a pouch of Big League Chew before next deadline)

Choo didn't handle his name being mentioned as trade bait very well.

Took the collar last night, striking out all 4 times!

    He must want to stay.

After all, that's what the front office likes to say all the time now: how well all the players get along with each other.

Yeah. This year, from what I've read, they would have had to be overwhelmed to deal Choo (which is why in the Pirates rumor, they were looking to get both Starling Marte and arguably their top AAA starter). Don't know if that was the best way of handling things, as I can't see too many people being willing to give too much for him next year because Boras is his agent and, so, it's likely that only the wealthiest teams will have any dream of keeping him after that two-month rental.

it's likely that only the wealthiest teams will have any dream of keeping him after that two-month rental.
I wouldn't even say that. Boras literally mandates all of his players head to free agency to let the market set their value vs. signing an extension.

In recent years it has been the smaller market teams he has been conning into long term deals for his guys in free agency. After all, he is the guy who got Washington (who had never been a free agent player) to cough up 7 years and a $126 million for Jayson Werth.

In fact, I wouldn't be shocked if that is the contact Boras uses as a reference for Choo in free agency as they actually had kind of similar career numbers and Werth was a 31 year old (as Choo will be) when he signs his next deal.

Antonetti shit the bed by not moving him now because there is a 0% chance of retaining him as a free agent, and you will always get more for someone with 1.5 years on their deal vs. a 2 month rental. Then again they shit the bed when Cliff Lee was in the same spot when they traded him, so I guess maybe I shouldn't expect much from this bunch.

They've been unbelievably fortunate to be where they are. The pythagorean W/L is 44-59. The lineup was going to be bad. I thought this team would win 78-84 because the pitching would be good enough.

If I knew the pitching would be this bad I would have predicted about 70 wins.

this game is already over... i dont think vinnie pestano pitch in like week in half lol. hes only good player on the team period. im ready for browns preseason games that don't even count than watch theese bums play every night.
  • BRF
Hammy was just talking about team RBI leaders and how it looks lIke at this pace Kipnis will end up with 70 some to lead the team.

    How sad is that?

Cleveland, help me understand why U are going nuts on twitter about the Indians the past 2 days. I am very humbled but Tribe not for sale
Maybe you can talk him into it.

"Cleveland, help me understand why U are going nuts on twitter about the Indians the past 2 days. I am very humbled but Tribe not for sale"

    Wow!

He can't understand why we (U) are going nuts?

    That is a dead end.

    Twitter.............pah.

    I'm old.

But why would an owner of major franchises even respond to stuff from something like Twitter?

    That's lame.
  • IggyPride00
Unless there is a late game miracle, tonights loss puts the Tribe a season high 7 out of first, and 5.5 out of the wild card.

Hard to believe it was not even a week ago we had that big (what looked to be season changing win) over Verlander.

Fast forward to a soon to be 5 losses in a row against the Twins/Royals and we are on the edge of the abyss. Crazy how fast things can change like that.

Hopefully it's a discreet way of Gilbert calling out Dolan for being a sack less piece of shit owner.

some of the pitching....the back end of the bullpen has been lock down. Smith/Pestano/ Perez are certainly one of the top, if not the best combo out of the pen. That's why the team's record is better than the run differential would indicate. Without the back end of the pen, this team would have a garbage team's record.

I don't know how you assemble a lineup of .220/.230 hitters and expect to score runs. You simply cannot expect to sustain rallies with guys who don't average even a hit per game. Even worse...no power....at all. Even worse than that...not a balanced lineup. Even worse than that. They've known about it for a year and failed to address it.

Really I don't get what the front office expected would happen. I'm sure that they thought the young players would get better....in that regard Santana has to be a disappointment. Kipnis has to be doing better than expected...and Brantley has to be a pleasant surprise.

You can literally almost point to the decision to re-sign Grady as the point in which things took a turn for the worse this year.

It was our major off-season offensive signing essentially, and we got nothing from it. Instead of that money going to someone who could help, it went to Grady so he could rehab all year.

If they could I am sure they would tell us publicly that Hafner's contract has paralyzed the organization financially essentially since it was signed, but you have no business owning a major league team if adding more than one guy who makes more than $10 million a year is too much to handle financially.

I am not sure how they get out of this with the public in this town as a fire sale next year (which is going to happen with Choo/Ubaldo expiring) is not going to be attractive to a town tired of the penny pinching. The farm system is barren, and even though we have some salary coming off the books the money doesn't really go that far with all the needs we have.

We were promised a window of contention, and it seems like it was slammed shut this off-season before it even opened.

I read in the off-season that they have already been working on the succession plan to keep the team in the family for his kids in the event he were to die.

The unfortunate part for the fans is that the team is a cash cow for the family. They have no incentive to sell.

Our only hope is that they are shamed enough at some point they get tired of being pariah's in the community and choose to sell.

over/under average attendance for the rest of the year: 16,000?

I think the way we are losing is more a concern than the losses themselves. We have not even been in the last 5 games.

To me it all comes back to the offense.

The pitching has been lousy, but those guys have so much pressure on them knowing there is just no margin for error that it makes it hard out there. You can be a little more free and loose on the mound knowing that if you fall behind 2-0 early the game isn't over.
