Grade the Browns 2012 Draft

Yes, the Smelley pick was indeed rancid.
  • Y-Town Steelhound
If Smelley develops into a special teams starter, then it's a good pick.

    4 5 Travis. Benjamin WR
    4 25 James-Michael. Johnson LB
    5 25 Ryan. Miller G
    6 35 Emmanuel. Acho LB
    6 36 Billy. Winn DT
    7 38 Trevin. Wade CB
    7 40 Brad. Smelley TE

The only pick I didn't like in that was the Hughes pick. Other than that, we got a couple linemen that could potentially start, we got a RB, we got a QB, and to be honest I loved the Billy Winn pick. I watched his videos on youtube and he is a beast.

Also, brad smelley was just an awful pick LOL
They came into the draft with 13 picks and ended up with 11. They could have had Decastro and Hill or Jeffery and Brandon Thompson (huge run stopper) along with TRich. I am fine with the late round picks because you never know with those. Instead they picked Weeden,Schwartz and Hughes. The Browns blew it and I would give them a D.

I have no problem with them using picks to secure Richardson. Tampa really liked him and were going to jump the vikings to get him from what I've read. If, and it's a big if, Weeden turns out to be our QB then is passing over decastro really that big of a deal? Hughes was a retarded pick, no doubt about that. But I don't mind the other picks, especially the Winn pick.

The best part of their draft is what they didn't do.....give up the farm for rg3
  • DeyDurkie5
People are mad because we didn't get Kendall Wright. That's about as dumb as giving up the farm for RG3. An over-weight, 4.59 WR is not what the browns need.

Yeah Benjamin is what we need lol

    Benjamin, Little, and Massaquoi

With Brandon Fucking Weeden throwing to them.

Christ on a cross how pathetic has this organization become?

And then drafting his backup with their 4th round pick lol.
  • Lockup Screen
C-.....The lack of getting a top WR in the first, second, or even third round! Is horrible. If it wasnt for Trent, and getting a couple good lineman, it would have been an F

    Walter Football:
    2012 NFL Draft Grade: C-

Goals Entering the 2012 NFL Draft: No one wants to play for the Browns, per certain reports. Whether you believe them or not, there's no denying that this Cleveland team doesn't appear as though it's going anywhere. There's no franchise quarterback, while the offense as a whole lacks play-makers. The 2012 NFL Draft will be all about bolstering the scoring unit.

2012 NFL Draft Accomplishments: There's nothing worse than targeting one player in a certain spot and then panicking when that prospect is plucked off the board a selection or two earlier. That's exactly what happened to the Browns at No. 22. They were set to take Kendall Wright, but then had to reach for Brandon Weeden when Tennessee took him at No. 20. Mike Holmgren did not have a Plan B.

If Weeden can be a franchise quarterback, this will be a good draft class. However, that's unlikely. He'll be 29 soon, and by the time he figures things out, he'll be in his 30s. He'll be 33 when his first contract is up. Oh, and then there's the dubious history of Big XII quarterbacks flopping in the NFL. Weeden should not have been a first-round pick, and Cleveland must be heavily downgraded for that.

Some other choices didn't make much sense. Both John Hughes and Travis Benjamin were major reaches; the Hughes pick was particularly confusing because it didn't fill a need and failed to upgrade the offense. On the bright side, Trent Richardson will be a stud, while various late-round selections provided great value
    Kiper gave it a B-.

This is what sucks..sure, Trent Rich is going to be amazing..but they're not going to win anything. THey're going to be that team with the great running back but no success. Sweet

Ray Rice has done OK with a shit quarterback. Weedon will be better than flacco once he gets some receivers.
  • lhslep134
Well our team now closely resembles what the Ravens were before Smith and Boldin. A stud every down running back, a big armed quarterback who will never be elite, mediocre receivers.

If our defense/receivers step up we have a chance to be pretty decent. We were competitive in a lot of games last year with a roster that was a lot worse than it is now. You guys are b*tching way too much.

My god we just posted the same thing. I guess we can agree on something every now and then.

Maybe we are bitching too much. And, I do agree that if receivers step up, Weeden turns out OK, the Browns have a chance to be decent, maybe consistently season to season.

With that said, it still could have went so much better.

Yeah but in this case we're right. Think seriously about each game last year. We were in it for the majority of them. With a stud running back (who inherently takes pressure of the qb), we hold the ball a little longer, score a few more points, win more ball games.

We don't need Weeden to be elite (at least not right now), we need him to just not suck. Little will be good, and if Cribbs, Mitchell (no f'in way), Norwood or Massaquoi (no f'in way) step up, and Benjamin is our Torrey Smith, we will definitely be better.

The draft didn't go as well as it could have, but we made some serious progress towards getting better.

I hope Lerner moves this garbage team to Europe.

Easily the worst draft in the history of fuck.

You're not right..because we don't know who is right yet.

But you're definitely wrong w/ the Ravens comparison. Trent isn't a stud RB yet (he could be a bust for all we know), Weeden isn't comparable to Flacco (he could be a bust, too) other than they both have good arm strength, and our receivers aren't mediocre..they're straight up awful. The Ravens have at the very worst mediocre receivers. The Browns receivers would be on the practice squad of almost every other NFL team. They're awful. Terrible. Disgustingly bad. And we didn't do a god damn thing to improve the position. That's what has me so upset. We could have picked up a free agent WR or two, yet we sat around and did nothing.

It's arrogance...they think our WRs are good enough. It's going to be hilarious watching them (H&H) realize that isn't the case.

What if the WR's are better than we think? Our QB play has been horrendous and the running game last year was non existent.

It's possible..just my opinion that they are garbage. I've seen enough of them to know that it wasn't JUST McCoy fucking up

Leading the league in drops has nothing to do with bad QB play or a running game. The ball is thrown a little bit behind you? So what, adjust and make the catch. In little D6 high school football we were expected to catch the ball if we could get our hands on it. If it can be done in the smallest level of high school football, I'd hope these guys playing football for a living can do it.

    Agreed

Horrible RB. Thought they should've taken Boom Herron.

Another noodle armed QB with the second pick. Should've gone with the "sure thing", late in Kellen Moore.

An offensive tackle who looked horrible owning Nick Perry when they faced each other.

And the rest couldn't scratch the lineup of the Gladiators.

TO dropped a lot of passes.

Let me ask you a question, would you take BRandon Marshall?
