Mets must have been actively shopping him, he was talking like he did not know who he was going to play for next year.BigAppleBuckeye;1339072 wrote:He has one year left on his deal, and for only $5M, he is a steal. -

A $6 billion TV deal will do that for you.Tiger2003;1338827 wrote:And the word is they are not done spending money. -

I guess they were going for the certainty, but you have to wonder about locking in for 25 years? Seems that if the contract is worth $250 million a year now, 10 years from now if should be more as I have never seen the value of the TV contract really ever drop for any sport over time.Mulva;1339088 wrote:A $6 billion TV deal will do that for you. -
mucalum49Bittersweet day for a Rays fan. James Shields and Wade Davis has been dealt to the Royals for Wil Myers (#3 prospect according to Baseball America) and other prospects. Shields has been a big part in the team's turnaround but we need offense. Wil Myers, Desmond Jennings and Matt Joyce could be a formidable outfield in the future. The rotation is still solid, at least it's nice to see the front offense finally acknowledging the need for some offense.

That's kind of wild that it is the Royals trading for someone else's player they can't afford, instead of being the team trading that player away.mucalum49;1339516 wrote:Bittersweet day for a Rays fan. mucalum49I agree. The other prospects have been named. Mike Montgomery, Jake Odorizzi, and Patrick Leonard. I'm really happy about the trade. Knowing the Rays couldn't pay Shields going forward they reloaded the farm pitching staff with Montgomery and Odorizzi who went 11-3 with a 2.93 ERA in triple A last year. Leonard is a 20 yr old who hit 14 homers in rookie ball. He's a big guy at 6'4". Hopefully he can develop into an every day first baseman.

jordo212000Montgomery was a big time prospect like Myers. I like the trade for both teams

wildcats20Josh Hamilton will be signing with the Angels.

IggyPride00Texas shit the bed big time on this one.
5 years really was not unreasonable for him at all. That is the most I would have gone, but it is not like it took an 8-9 year deal to get him signed (you let him walk at that point).
To lose him to a division rival because your being a tight ass with the budget (they have money to spend) is kind of stupid.
Nolan Ryan needs to check his depends right now because they might be leaking.
That said Pujols and Hamilton hitting back to back, one of them is going to have a monster year because there will be no pitching around whoever is hitting in front of the other.
Then throw in the fact Mike Trout is always on base to drive in and it should be a fun team to watch. -

do the angels and dodgers have ties to oil in the middle east or something?they seem to have an unlimited supply of moneywildcats20;1341979 wrote:Josh Hamilton will be signing with the Angels. -
IggyPride00Is there a better outfield right now in the MLB than Trumbo/Trout/Hamilton?
If everyone is healthy and playing that is some crazy offensive production out of that group. -
Midstate01Reds open vs the angels. Greeeeeat

hasbeenAs a Mariners fan, this sucks.
Hopefully, our GM will snag Swisher or Bourn or SOMEBODY who can hit. -
Laley23Lol. That lineup is insane.
-
IggyPride00Deal was 5 years $125 million.

IggyPride00Hamilton/Pujols or Cabrerra/Fielder?
What is the better 1/2 punch? -

Better to get them early, than later imo.Midstate01;1342002 wrote:Reds open vs the angels. Greeeeeat -

BUT, they cant match Trout/Trumbo. -
IggyPride00Vernon Wells now becomes the highest paid bench player in baseball for the Angels at $21 million a season (2 more years on that deal).
This move was made entirely possible by Jerrod Weaver giving them a massive hometown discount on his deal last year.
The 5 year $85 million dollar deal he signed was likely $60+ Million dollars below market value when you consider what Grienke got. Had he tested free agency, he would have gotten probably just as much as Grienke, and has to have Scott Boras wanting to hang himself right now. Probably why he usually demands his clients explore free agency before deciding to sign somewhere. Weaver over-ruled him though for possibly the first time in the history of the world. -

Wasn't wells pretty much that last year?? -
IggyPride00Jon Daniels in Texas has a really sore asshole right now as he is really spinning out there about Hamilton not giving him a chance to match the offer. Texas fans are pissed because the guy had all year to get it done, and now he is trying to blame others for his failure while the team's best player signs with a division rival.

shook_17wow what a deadly combo with trout puljos and hamilton. should be AL favorites this year.

Azubuike24I disagree. The Angels starting pitching still has question marks and their bullpen isn't good at all. Not saying they won't win, but they still have holes.

True but they could score 8-10 runs a game. That'll save you from having to have great pitching. But I agree they have holes. -
RotinajAngels are gonna win 120.
