2012 Thread O' The Pittsburgh Pirates: SS/DY
-
Non9-11 is pretty good to this point
they opened with a difficult schedule and the offense has been bad
if they gave the starting pitching a little more support they would probably be 3-4 games above .500 -
GoPensHow long before they trade Bedard? lol
-
HereticSome might call last night embarrassing. I know I would. A.J. Burnett 12 runs in 2.2 innings...lol.
The only bright spot is that Alvarez had two hits and scored three runs. He's up to .240ish and leads the team in homers and RBIs thanks to his recent burst of good play at the plate. -

Yeah, I'm liking what Alvarez is doing this year. Burnett was a human batting tee last night. -
HereticPedro with his seventh home run of the year to put the Pirates on top of the Cards 3-2 in the sixth. 2-3 on the game and now up to .261/7/14. Amazing, considering how utterly inept he was for the first couple weeks.
They do need four good bullpen innings after needing them for 5.1 last night, though. Bedard struggled a bit early and wound up lasting 5. 56 pitches in the first two. He did dominate the final three he pitched, though, and finished with 11 Ks in 5 innings. -
killer_ewokBedard with 11 K's in a 6-3 Bucco win. Raise the Jolly Roger!
-
HereticThey won last night!
Three home runs in the game, which was shocking. McCutchen and Jones had solo shots and Barajas and his .130 average blasted a walk-off two-run blast to win the game.
Burnett had a good bounce-back start only giving up two runs and striking out 10 over eight innings. Hanrahan blew the save, but Watson did a good job getting out of the inning and got the win. -
HereticThey won last night. I made a post about that. Which disappeared due to server issues, so fuck everything. EVERY FUCKING THING.
-
HereticBedard only lasted one inning due to back spasms, but the team still won yesterday over Washington. McCutchen was 4-4 in the game and Brad Lincoln and Jared Hughes combined for five innings giving up only one unearned run. Pedro was 0-4, though, and his error led to that unearned run. After getting promoted to the clean-up spot, his hot streak came to a halt immediately, it seems.
-
HereticTeam got Strasberg'd last night. 13 Ks in 6 innings in a 4-2 loss, including seven in a row at one point. Correia seemed to do really good until giving up three in either the sixth or seventh inning.
-
killer_ewokI can handle getting Strasberg'd.
-
Gblock20 swings and misses by the pirates...is cutch sitting today?
-
HereticTwo straight wins against Houston for a 5-4 home trip. Team still needs to get better (a lot better) offensively, but they're hanging near .500.
-
Hereticlol...as a side note, on this link, go down to #30, which is the Twins. Who have former Pirate Ryan Doumit at catcher. Click on the highlighted words in the sentence about him. It almost makes a person feel better about how our catchers come to about a .160 combined average.

End of LineRaise it.

HereticThree in a row! And if Barajas doesn't watch out, he'll be up to .200 before we know it!
-
killer_ewokStreak is about to be over. Correia got fucking shelled. SMH
-
HereticCorreia is looking more like second-half-2011 Correia than first-half Correia now. At least they have options which I hope they'll look into if he doesn't turn things around IMMEDIATELY.
Karstens when he returns from the DL deserves a shot. Last year might have been a huge fluke, but he deserves the time to prove it is or isn't.
Indy is loaded with guys doing good at starter. Younger guys like Rudy Owens, Jeff Locke and Justin Wilson (more worrisome than the other two because of erratic control) and older retread types like Jo-Jo Reyes and Daniel Cabrera.
Don't know if any of them would be better in the long run, but Correia just depresses me. I feel like they're the underdog who'll need a huge offensive day (lol...yeah right) to overcome him every time he's on the mound. -
BR1986FBEnjoy Buccos fans. Can't hear the sound at work so if it's stupid, my bad...

killer_ewokRaise it!
McDonald with 11 K's in 5 2/3. -
HereticIf we could only find a way to get McDonald to pitch, I don't know, 3 games out of 5. Mainly because, and this might just be me, I think the team may be a bit of an underdog tonight with Charlie Morton going against Verlander.
-
killer_ewokPirates with no hits vs. Verlander through 7...
-
killer_ewokPirates are 3 outs away from getting no-hit.
-
killer_ewokNo-no broken up in the 9th.
