2012 Thread O' The Pittsburgh Pirates: SS/DY

  • killer_ewok
Yeah, that was a major buzz kill when you consider that Snider's bat came alive and Marte hit that blast. Looked like the Pirates were headed for another W. Hoping that doesn't become a trend with the bullpen.

Pirates leading the D-backs 6-4 after 5. Walker has 5 RBI's and Marte chipped in with a solo bomb.

Don't like the pirates but love how as a team they always immediately respond after giving up runs.

Yeah..more often than not they come right back at ya'.

Pirates win 7-6. 2.5 back now after another Cincy loss.

Last night was a bit scary. After the bullpen blew Tuesday's game, the defense tried to do the same. Three errors in one inning is crazy. Even crazier was how 'Zona only got one run out of it.

    Buccos lose 6-3.

Went 2-2, but blew leads in both losses. Missing out on golden opportunities to get back in first place, as the Reds won't struggle like they currently are for too long, I wouldn't think. Yeah, they've gotten from 5.5 back to 2.5 since Saturday night, but damn...0.5 or 1.5 was doable and would have been nice. Hopefully, they can get some good momentum against the Pads. They aren't good, but do have a 4-game win streak, which makes them worrisome right now, since Pittsburgh's pitching seems to get more suspect on a daily basis.

I hate to say it but it looks like the end is near for the Buccos. They lost 5-0 the Padres even though Burnett took the mound tonight. J-Mac stunk it up again last night as they blew a huge lead.

    Just finish .500 or better.

9 run innings will keep them alive

Lol seriously? They're still 2.5 up in the WC and don't they play the easiest remaining schedule?

Big win today. I'm not typically the doom and gloom fan but everything was pointing to a free fall for the Pirates. They're not done yet IF the pitching gets back on track but let's be honest...the way things were/are looking....it was getting tough to be optimistic.

I'm going Wednesday and Thursday. Huge series vs. the Dodgers. Have to win to stay ahead of them in the wc.

We remember what happened last year. From leading the division on Aug. 1 to finishing 72-90 despite being buyers at the deadline. And then, when you add all the years they were sellers and freefalled over the last couple of months due to that and it's easy to understand why a 3-game swoon in August that included blowing a 7-1 lead and getting 2-hit would have us worried.

The 9-run inning yesterday was great to see, though. Gives hope history won't be repeating itself. Hopefully, they can use that as good momentum heading into the Dodgers series. Big thing they'll need is better starting pitching. Seems they've gotten homer-happy over the past couple weeks.

It seems 1st innings have been a disaster lately for the pitching staff

    Truth.

How about Walker? To say he's been swinging a hot bat lately is almost an understatement.

I really hope I'm wrong, but the buccs have seemed to have "overperformed" the last 45 days or so. That being said, Burnette has dominated 75% of the time, and cutch and walker have been lights out.

I wouldn't count them out for the playoffs ( at least for a WC ) I just don't see them being able to play 630 ball the rest of the stretch.

Pirates fans have to be happy to see Melky out 50 games. Looks like it will be a 3 team race for the 2 wildcard spots between the pirates cards and braves.
  • killer_ewok
While I'd love to see them make it to the postseason, it's hard to be mad at the season they have had after 20 years of losing if they somehow miss out. If they don't finish .500 or better...I will be disappointed but even with the current slide I think that record falls and that had to be the first goal this season. The postseason would be a bonus at this point but I will be happy as long as they accomplish that first goal.

Depends on how long Walker's out with his dislocated finger. Losing the #2 offensive player (behind McCutchen) in your line-up for any amount of time when you're already slumping can't help.

Team NEEDS Burnett to be on form today. They have the advantage in the pitching matchup with the Dodgers using Blanton, but if they keep giving up 8-10 runs a game, they're screwed no matter who they're going against.
  • Heretic
Much needed win last night. Burnett wasn't good, but fortunately Joe Blanton was Joe Blanton, so they won.

Big series starts tonight at St. Louis. Hopefully, McDonald can remember what he was like before the all-star break soon and that the team hits Westbrook like they usually do.

After doing a quick glance at the pirates remaining schedule it looks like they don't play a single winning team aside from 6 each vs the reds and cards until the last 3 games of the season against the braves. Looks like that last series could very well be a "playoff" series. Best of luck to the Pirates!! Unless it means them winning the division of course.

Winning the division? The ways things have gone so far this month, let's just say I'm ecstatic Melky got nabbed for 50 games to hurt one of the teams fighting with them for the second wild card.

Loved seeing Burnett tell Ramirez to "Sit the fuck down".
