Only if he's good at picking up a 7-10 split.

I heard he's a great bowler as well..takes a strong arm to hit that 7-10 split;)

I'd see him as consistently in the gutter.

They could bring back this guy...

The thought of adding another terrific DE to play alongside Rubin, Taylor, and Sheard, is definitely a great thought.

Haden is going to be a GREAT corner. He slipped up a couple of times this season, but overall, he did very good. Especially considering the fact that our defense didn't have much of a pass rush outside of Sheard. I think we could grab a CB in FA or in the 2nd or 3rd round that could become serviceable. Skrine didn't play too bad either.

Then we'd have to hear ESPN and everybody else suck him off for another year of CFB... No thanks! Just go to the draft and get drafted #1.

Also, to the people who keep saying our defense is fine and that we should focus completely on offense, you do realize that a defense may not be as good as it was from one year to the next, correct?

You never want to stay pat with a defense, especially when it wasn't great to begin with. A team like Baltimore may be able to stay pat for a season, because they have a GREAT foundation. The Browns do not. We have very good pieces, but the rest of the defense is still an unknown. I know the offense didn't help the defense at all, but you can't just stand pat.

You have to address some issues defensively in FA and the middle rounds of the draft, IMO.

I agree about going all offense with the 1st 2 or 3 picks, if the players are there though.

I agree it would be dumb to stand pat with the defense. The Browns played 5 of the bottom 7 teams in the NFL in total offense (and 1 of the other 2 was us) this year. We only played 1 top 10 offense in terms of total yards (Oakland), and scoring (San Fran).

I doubt that happens again next year. 4 teams on next season's schedule were top 10 offensively this year, with 2 others (Dallas and Pittsburgh) finishing 11 and 12. It's going to be tougher sledding.

Offense is a bigger priority, but if we don't add a pass rush and some athleticism/playmaking ability the defense could easily fall off next year.

I really like Meving Ingram DE from South Carolina...I wouldnt mind taking him with the 2nd 1st rd pick if he's there. Team him up with Sheard on the ends could be a good thing. Im not sure where he is projected to go though? Atleast a mid-late 1st round pick I would guess. Dude looks like a stud.

Haden seemed to get up for some of the bigger names, but struggled against guys like Garcon and Brown. I think it was just a focus problem

I'm getting the feeling more & more that Shurmur WANTED to hire an OC before this season but that guy was not available (prohibited by contract). Childress was in that position and Sherman was coaching.
  • Commander of Awesome
    What makes you say that?
  • BR1986FB
If Childress was his target all along he was off limits due to a contractual obligation and Sherman was still coaching.

That's the indication he gave in his year end presser, saying they interviewed "some guys" for this year but that he wanted to make sure they hired the right guy.

It's pretty obvious that he doesn't want to give up the playcalling duties though. Even though he said he wants to win, his answer made it pretty obvious that he loves calling plays.

If he brings in a guy like Childress he's likely going to have to give up those duties.

good. maybe he can focus on time mangement and other shit. he had way to much going on this year.

side note. no matter what direction we go in the draft we will improve dramatically at any position. hopefully RGIII or Blackmon.
  • BR1986FB
Hypothetical scenario...Browns either have their QB going into the draft or are targeting a different QB later....Redskins want RG3 at #4. Redskins 1st rounder (#6), a 2013 1st rounder and Brian Orakpo or Ryan Kerrigan for the pick. Do you do this? Is it enough compensation? Keep in mind you're dealing with Dan Snyder.
  • Commander of Awesome
That is definitely enough, though no way in hell the 'skins do that trade. Why would they give up their one of their best players/pass rushers, 2 first rounders to move up 2 slots? Not realistic IMO.
  • zach24oz
I would think they would take that deal that would bring back a first and Orakpo. For the Browns, you get an immediate upgrade and starter at LB and can still get a rookie LB who could push to start. If they end up moving up to 6 who do they pick? Depends on who all is available, but I doubt Blackmon is there at 6 and that is too high to pick an OL,LB or LB, I guess who ever is the BPA is who you take?

Kerrigan makes Orakpo expendable or vice versa. Keep in mind you're dealing with an idiot (Dan Snyder) here. He's done some real stupid shit.
  • BR1986FB
BTW...was just shaking my head listening to that idiot Booms on 92.3 this morning. He now has major "wood" for his latest brainstorm which is Lerner firing the whole crew, hiring the Polians who in turn hire Dungy to be the HC and bringing in Peyton Manning.
  • ytownfootball
Do the skin want RGIII or is that part of the hypothetical?
  • Commander of Awesome
Sooo glad I don't listen to local radio. Polian has been so horrible in the draft as of late its not even funny. No thanks.
