Not to mention Matt Doh. Who decided to change the unis...hoops23;1029590 wrote:Joe Forte was the man at UNC.
Kris Lang, Ron Curry, Brendan Haywood, Julius Peppers, Jason Caple, etc..
Great time for UNC basketball.

wes_mantoothOJ Mayo was also the next big thing after Lebron came out of ASVSM. He is good, but never really improved that much from high school.

LOL please stop.jordo212000;1029592 wrote:Marv Williams never did much at UNC though. He was just a super recruit who played spotty minutes on a really good team. He was a "high potential" guy out of school. Atlanta is still waiting on him to progress haha
Marvin played over 20 min a game as a FRESHMAN on a National Championship team. He averaged 11 and 7. AS A FRESHMAN. -

Barnes doesn't have nearly the handle of a Joe Johnson, which is the biggest thing he is missing imohoops23;1029591 wrote:I don't think their games are similar at all. Marvin worked from the post a lot and was freakishly athletic.
Harrison Barnes is a true wing player and can score from anywhere. Not as athletic though.
Barnes really reminds me more of Joe Johnson. -
Ironman92I'll add Eric Gordon to my surprised list

Laley23lol. Marvin Williams might have been the best player for UNC as a 6th man. He was unstoppable at times that season.

BOOOOO This man!!! lol.Ironman92;1029604 wrote:I'll add Eric Gordon to my surprised list
A lot of people thought he wouldnt do anything, and honestly Im not sure why? A bit undersized, but more explosive and stronger/quicker than most in the league when he was in HS.
People forget he led the B1G in scoring as a freshman, and played the entire conference season with a broken right wrist. -
Laley23I also thought Wang Zhizhi was the second coming.
/sarcasm. -

I just didn't see him as a 22+ ppg guy. -

He wasn't as dominate at USC as I expected....he's close to what I guessed -

Gotcha. I personally though he would be a top 10 scorer and still think he will be. But he has been injury prone, and it could derail his career. I am, admittedly, 100% biased though lol.Ironman92;1029613 wrote:I just didn't see him as a 22+ ppg guy. -
Ironman92Old School....Ed Obannon and Marcus Liberty

Carolina doesn't win the National Championship without Marvin. -

Not to mention how he took over a big game against Villanova in the Elite 8.wildcats20;1029600 wrote:LOL please stop.

You guys liked him a lot more than Roy Williams did during that season haha.
He had some good games while there, but he was wildly inconsistent -
SonofanumpI though Gary McLain would have done more after leading Villanova to the title.

Come on man. He was behind 2 MCD AA. 1 a SR (Williams) and 1 a JR (Sean May). Dont go overboard like he was buried in the doghouse lol.jordo212000;1029632 wrote:You guys liked him a lot more than Roy Williams did during that season haha.

When it mattered, vs Illinois, Marvin was in and hit the go ahead basket to win the title. I dont remember exactly, but once he got accustomed to the college game, it seemed his play took off (right around conference play maybe..UNC fans??) -

I think many are hedging on mentioning him....he is way more functional on a good team than just about anyone thought he would.
