Professional Sports Playoffs
-
DeyDurkie5I saw pick6's retarded comment about getting rid of hockey, and it made me think that without hockey, there would not be the best playoffs in all of pro sports.
Without a doubt, the best professional sports playoffs bar none. Don't bring any gay wrestling/lacross/running into this. Major sports only. Poll is included. -

NonI'll still go NFL on this one.
I've been to NHL playoff games, Stanley Cup games, NFL divisional playoff games, AFC Championships and a Super Bowl.
The desperation and energy and all those things are the same but in the NFL you still have a lot more fans in the stadium and being outside in January I think adds to it as well. -
HitsRusI never have been a fan of teams that don't take care of business during the regular season being allowed anywhere near the playoffs. The NBA is ridiculous. It is all about extracting the most amount of money from its season ticket holders. Baseball is probably the cleanest....it allows only 1 "wild card" team per league....the rest of the qualifiers have to actually win their division.

At least the NBA doesn't have a garbage rule to determine who gets home field advantage for the World Series. -
HitsRus^^^^ not really a big fan of what MLB is considering.... I like the current system best of all ...even with all it's flaws. If one really examines all the "playoff systems" currently in use, it's really just about generating income. By allowing more teams in, in keeps undeserving teams in the hunt longer, and keeps the turnstiles spinning as fans buy into the hype.

DeyDurkie5I mean there really is no debate, hockey has the best playoff system hands down. Doesn't matter if you like hockey or not, it's the most entertaining by far. Not to mention, they dont shake hands until the series is over. Makes it seem more intense.

Then why did you start a thread asking for opinions and put a poll up? #Nicefailthread -
DeyDurkie5
so that people can prove me wrong, obviously. nice fail at a troll attempt. I won't put the gay little hashtag though, ya douche.Skyhook79;974757 wrote:Then why did you start a thread asking for opinions and put a poll up? #Nicefailthread -
Laley23Hockey. But I voted for Soccer based on the World Cup. Year in year out, Stanley Cup kicks ass. You get an OT game like 1/3 of the time...and it is the most intense thing ever.
-
DeyDurkie5
World Cup just isn't a good thing to base this type of argument on, as it's every 4 years. If you would've said league championships and champions league, then it would've appealed better.Laley23;974763 wrote:Hockey. But I voted for Soccer based on the World Cup. GoPensEasily hockey. Winning the Stanley Cup is the hardest championship to get out of all the major sports.

But, I would probably rank hockey 2nd. Playoff hockey is intense. -
Pick6
lol, only your dip shit ass would take that comment seriously. How do hockey playoff ratings compare to other sports?DeyDurkie5;974396 wrote:I saw pick6's retarded comment about getting rid of hockey, and it made me think that without hockey, there would not be the best playoffs in all of pro sports. -
Commander of AwesomeNBA imo.

Laley23
Well I couldnt really think of those as playoffs. CL I guess. But league tourneys everyone makes and they are played during the year. CL is during the year also. I based the WC because its more a playoff nature than anything else and isnt played during the regular season.DeyDurkie5;974766 wrote:World Cup just isn't a good thing to base this type of argument on, as it's every 4 years. now shut the fuck up. NBA, NFL, Soccer, MLB > NHL -
MulvaI think the NBA and NHL both have too many teams in the playoffs. The first round is pretty much worthless. But I think it mainly depends on the year, not the sport.
-
Laley23
By %, I agree. But in the NHL the 8 seed is advancing a lot. Sometimes to the finals. I forget, but I think an 8 seed won a few years ago. The 8-1 match-up is just as heated and close as the 4-5 match-up. Just the nature of playoff hockey and hockey in general. It makes it great that they have to go through 4 bloodbath, grind out series to win the Cup. NBA the 8 seed usually gets demolished.Mulva;974820 wrote:I think the NBA and NHL both have too many teams in the playoffs. The first round is pretty much worthless. MulvaHighest Stanley Cup champ ever was a 5 seed, and 33/42 teams since the league expanded from 6 to 12 teams were either a #1 or 2.
Since the league started seeding the entire conference 1-8 in 1994 titles by seed are:
#1: 6
#2: 5
#3: 3
#4: 2
#5: 1
#6: 0
#7: 0
#8: 0
8 over 1 upset has happened 9/34 times since 1994 (26.5%). There's obviously a lot more parity in the NHL than the NBA, but the lower seeds still aren't a real threat to win anything. -
End of LineStanley Cup Playoffs. The amount of emotion, dedication, and heart they play with through 4 rounds is incredible. Also how intense the playoffs are as well. Guys pretty much throw their bodies on the line for a chance to win the cup b/c you never know if you'll ever get close to winning it again.

Hb31187The NBA playoffs are every bit as exciting as the NHL playoffs and I would venture to say they get better ratings as well.
But I vote for the NFL, no series no chance to come back. You lose you go home -
DeyDurkie5
Oh cool, I'm going to let online articles concerning ratings for hicks, inbreds, blacks, whites, asians etc. determine what I prefer to watch. smh pick...IMO, I think hockey playoffs are the most exciting and entertaining to watch and I love the fact they dont shake hands until the series is over. IF you want to base your viewing pleasure on ratings, then be my guest. now go fuck yourselfPick6;974815 wrote:http://blog.timesunion.com/sportsmedia/early-playoff-ratings-nba-increases-nhl-decreases/6662/
