Brett Keisel disagrees...Y-Town Steelhound;976356 wrote:NFL by far....Here's why NHL folks:
-EVERY game is a Game 7, the pressure is 1000x greater than the NHL.
-Played mostly outside, where most people play sports for the first time
-Largest, most intense crowd atmospheres
-Millions are watching increasing the aforementioned pressure
-You don't need to grow facial hair to know you're playing for a chance to be a champion

I Wear PantsI think the World Cup is the most exciting sports event there is.
That said as far as annual professional tournaments go I'd have to say I enjoy the NFL playoffs a lot.
If it was overall annual tournaments then the Ohio State Wrestling tournament is my choice. -
GoPensOff season Keisel. Doesn't even look like the same guy.

like_thatThere are plenty of NFL players that grow their beard out for the playoffs, they just don't glorify it through the media like the NHL.

Best high school "post season" of any sport.....truly awesome.I Wear Pants;976790 wrote: If it was overall annual tournaments then the Ohio State Wrestling tournament is my choice. -
sportchamppsI like soccer with the home and away series with aggregate score with road goals being the tiebreaker. That way each team gets a home game and the second games usually exciting one team is down and knows they must score so they playa really aggressive style of play.

I don't know how to handle this post. Never thought I would agree with you.Automatik;976843 wrote:Best high school "post season" of any sport.....truly awesome. -
sportchamppsI don't like the argument that baseball get it right bc it takes division winners and 1 wildcard. Just bc you win your division it doesn't make you better then a 3rd place al east team half the time.

like_thatAs for the question at hand, it is really hard to pick one. Each sport has something special to their playoffs.
NHL: The guys just seem to be the most emotional for the cup. The cup is the best trophy of all sports too imo.
NBA: Unlike the NHL, you will have guys just quit and give up (see Lebron James), but there is always a certain player in the NBA that rises to the occasion, which cements his legacy (Dirk) or adds on to it (Kobe, Jordan, etc). It's pretty cool to see a player pretty much engrave his name in the HOF while playing in the playoffs.
NFL: Most popular sport in the country, one and done, and most cities seem to take the most pride in their football team's success than any other sport. Everybody watches the SB too. It's a grand event now. If I ever became president, I honestly would push for the following Monday to be a holiday.
MLB: When your team is in the playoffs, it is unbelievable. Every pitch is so intense.
Soccer: I don't really get into club soccer, but the world cup and euro cup are awesome. It's crazy to see a whole nation gain or lose pride in their country depending on how their soccer team performed. -

Agreed. That's why I think they should get rid of divisions, or at least go to 2 divisions.sportchampps;976863 wrote:I don't like the argument that baseball get it right bc it takes division winners and 1 wildcard. Edit: Also, you can't say their playoffs get it right when a wildcard team hosted game 7 of the world series this year over a team that won their division and had a better record. -
AutomatikI'm fired up for Euro 2012. The last one was fucking awesome.

More like the media doesnt glorify it. I dont think most guys in the NHL care if they get noticed for it. Just more tradition for the league.like_that;976839 wrote:There are plenty of NFL players that grow their beard out for the playoffs, they just don't glorify it through the media like the NHL. -
slingshot4everI like the fact that the NHL re-seeds teams for 2nd round. Forces an 8 seed to beat the 2 seed right after the 1 seed

Hiddink shit himself. He turns around all these national teams, but he couldn't get Turkey to Euro 12. SMH.DeyDurkie5;977749 wrote:too bad the turks are out of it -
Classyposter58NHL is incredible IMO and #1 in my book. I stand watching every second of the Wings games and the fact its 2 months of grueling play to the cup is unreal.
I think really all 4 major sports have amazing playoffs, the MLB playoffs are nerve-racking. The NFL is basically larger than life and the NBA is so incredibly dramatic and great to watch, problem is it seems like the road team never wins.
Best tourney might be the Masters though. I know it's golf but it's so hard to be consistent out there and the leaderboard is constantly switching after the first 3 days and then Sunday is a mad grab where literally the scores change faster than most can keep up with. Incredible risk/reward with every shot, it's basically like in baseball if every at bat either a strikeout or home run because literally every hole is birdieable and bogieable. So many classic moments really in that tourney -
