Cleveland Indians Hot Stove---2011-2012
-
wes_mantoothyeah, it is time to cut ties with grady
-
Laley23Indians have officially picked up club option on RHP Fausto Carmona. Fine with this move, but just decline Gradys please.
-
grodtThey officially declined Grady's option making him a free agent.
-
TBone14Bittersweet. Have to wish the best for Grady but at the same time I would just be sick if he went somewhere else and returned to 2005-2007 form. I don't see this as a situation where a change of scenery was needed (BPhillips). He just cant' stay healthy. If he stays healthy somewhere else and a hitting coach can get him to shorten his swing with 2 strikes he could have success.

OQBSO, Now what are the Dolan's going to do with all that money?
-
grodtWell according to Jon Heyman we just traded for Derek Lowe
-
Laley23Who did we give up for Lowe I wonder?
-
grodtA "second-line player" according to Buster Olney. Whatever that means
Also Atlanta is picking up all but $5 million of the money owed to Lowe -
dazedconfusedso we have some combination of "second line player" (olney) and "minor league pitcher" (heyman)

wes_mantoothLol...at least Dolan is good for lulz
-
grodtGuy we gave up is Chris Jones who pitched in High-A Kinston last season. It was his 4th season in the organization. According to IndiansProspectInsider he's not a top prospect. Seems like a win-win. Lowe is a decent 5 guy who will eat up innings and is relatively cheap and the Braves get his contract off their payroll.
-
Laley23Looking at Chris Jones' #s and age, he wont ever pitch in the Major Leagues. But 5 Mil for Derek Lowe is still to much lol.

He doesn't eat up innings anymore, unless 3.1 is good enough. For at least the last half of this season, he'd would be average for about 3 innings and then the wheels would fall off. Next thing you know he is being pulled from the game with 2 runners on and 1 out already trailing 6-1. -

It was nothing but a salary dump for Atlanta. Wren said he would basically take the first offer he could find for Lowe. -
grodtHe's gone over 180 innings and 32 starts in each of the last 10 years. Really him and Fausto are in a similar spot right now. Hopefully one of them will turn it around and if one doesn't then they'll be replaced by Gomez, Huff or McAllister. I see no problem with the trade at all.
-
MulvaHe's 38, so it's definitely possible that he's just at the end of the line and last year wasn't a fluke. It's also possible that he'll bounce back though. If he pitches like he did for the Dodgers we got a steal. If he pitches like he did last season we wasted $5 million.
-
Laley23I just think 5M and 9M from his and Grady could be spent on a better player. Ok, Im sure on that.
-
TigerNation10Could definitely see the Reds looking at Sizemore to play LF if he becomes available.
-
grodtI'm not sure how many buy into the advanced metrics, but Lowe's FIP and xFIP for his three years in Atlanta were either right at or better then the league average. Basically saying that his high ERA numbers while there might have been more of a result of poor fielding/bad luck rather then a decline in skill.
The Indians now have 3 of the top 10 pitchers in terms of GB% which means I hope that Chiz, Kipnis and whoever plays first will be working on their fielding this offseason. -
karen lotzThis year had nothing to do with bad fielding or bad luck. Unless you consider leaving his sinker up and not being able to stay out of the middle of the plate bad luck.

He had 5 Extra Base hits, including a homer and 7 RBI to go along with 4 BB, which means he had the same amount of RBIs as Kearns and one less home run in 100 less ABs. He also posted a .308 SLG% vs Kearns .287. I can't wait for Interleague Play this season.
