Fukudome

Crimson streakThere thought is probably to put him in the 2 spot and he has decent average to give Cabrera and hafner more RBI chances

Classyposter58Word on the street is Tigers are scouting Ubaldo Jimenez and are thinking about making a deal for him...would definitely make a nice second option to Verlander

5 teams were scouting Jiminez... Tribe, Tigers, Yankees, Red Sox, and can't think of the 5th lol. -

Buster Olney tweeted the Rockies are asking for 3 top prospects, and I can believe that. I don't see what motivation Colorado would have to move Jimenez for anything less. Would the Tigers be willing to part w/ that? They might be, Verlander and the good Ubaldo would be very difficult to beat in a 7 game series. -
WooballCastrovince described prospects going to Cubs as "fringe" but still haven't seen the names listed.

Laley23Sounds like a decent deal to extend the line-up IF they make another move or 2. Just this one is a waste, but if it is complimented could be a win for the Tribe.
As for Ubaldo. I would LOVE to get him for 2.5 years. But not at that price, mostly because that price means our pitching. I would depart with Kipnis or Chiz or whatever. But dont trade pitching you have locked up for as long as you want essentially, even if the pitching you get back is 2.5 yrs worth.
Id be more inclined to sit on that deal and go after Pence with Gomez/McCalister and Chiz/Kipnis. -
fictionChicago Tribune says the Tribe is giving up Carlton Smith and Abner Abreu.

Agreed. They're nuts if they give up any pitching prospects.Laley23;844454 wrote:...But dont trade pitching you have locked up for as long as you want essentially, even if the pitching you get back is 2.5 yrs worth.

ts1227Looks like the minor leaguers involved may be Abner Abreu and Carlton Smith. (looks like someone beat me to it, stupid phone didn't refresh the posts)
Cleveland only has to pay $775,000 of Fukudome's salary too. the Dolans probably are already thinking they will have to have a fire sale over the weekend to afford that. -
Laley23I know most of our guys, but what are Smith and Abner Abreu projected as? I mean, obviously not ML ready, but are they supposed to be big time players or not?

Smith has a 4 era at AAA and abner is low A ball right now -

Smith was a fringe AAA player at best from what I've read. Average stuff.
Abner was rated as a power OF, but not a guy that will hit for good average. -

From what I have read, Kuroda doesn't want to leave and probably won't waive his NTC for anybody, let alone the Tribe. -
MulvaDon't mind the trade at all.

Mostly because of that.
Also because, while he isn't a right handed bat and has basically no pop (which were the 2 things we needed most), he is right near the top 10 in baseball in OBP. Very good eye at the plate, and anybody who can get on base is an upgrade for this team. -

Abreu was the Tribe minor league player of the week last week, playing for the K-Tribe. He is rail thin right now. I don't believe he was rated in their top 20, and he is probably the higher upside of the 2 guys that were dealt. -
WooballJim Callis, Baseball America, doesn't think Abreu will be on the Cubs top 30 prospect list

ts1227Lets be honest, Fukudome is only being brought in to be Choo's designated driver.
-
grodtI'm ok with the trade. Low risk...medium reward. Fukudome is not as bad as people seem to think. He's not the power bat that we want but he's instantly our best outfielder until Choo gets back and is now 2nd on the team in OBP. He'll most likely hit 1st or 2nd and get on base for our run producers to hit in, which is just as important. I wouldn't read too much into the 13 RBIs simply because he hit 1st in the NL which means he's got the pitcher hitting ahead of him. He's only got 45 AB with RISP but he's hitting .311/.516/.467 in that scenario.
Plus the guys we gave up weren't really significant anyways so we didn't really lose anything. I really hope that this isn't the only trade that we make though. Would still like a RH stick and/or a starter. -
wes_mantoothI am ok with it because they didn't really give up shit for him. This had better not be the last move though...

dazedconfusedcastrovince equated it to a $1 scratch off outside the grocery store...pretty much sums up my feelings

Yeah, I had one scene with him -
royal_kI'm Ok with it. Smith will most likely be a AAAA pitcher at best and Abreu is still very raw, altough talented. We get a guy that gets on base, which is something not many can do. But we still need a RH stick that can drive in runs.
Also, when Choo comes back and Fukudome moves to CF or LF, we will have 2 of the best arms in the AL.
