Braves @ Reds - Game 1

Look at Heiseys numbers. They aren't good. Outside of his 2 ridiculous games he sucks.

What do you think Stubbs is markedly better at than Heisey? I can think of 3 things: getting to balls in the gaps, getting infield hits, and stealing bases. Heisey over Stubbs: power, bunting

They seem about equal in mediocrity to me, forget about what their scouting reports were 2-3 years ago, those are worthless now.

Stubbs won't magically find it this year because his performance has dragged on for too long. Its a mechanical issue, and no amount of last minute tweaking is going to break it. He will need to spend an off season retooling in order to become more of a contact hitter. His swing is so long that he has to commit so early in the pitch that his ability to be selective is hindered. What that amounts to is a whole lot of guessing. With less than 3 years of service in the majors, your ability to guess major league pitching can't be that good.

I'll take Stubbs power over Heisey. Bunting, yeah. Stubbs can't.

I like Stubbs but he needs some time in AAA to regain his confidence, learn to bunt, and go the other way. Otherwise pitchers just manipulate his weaknesses

I like Heisey over Gomes, not necessarily Stubbs. Tell me what Stubbs has given this team over the last 3 months though??

Btw, Stubbs WAR is 2nd on team to Votto (outside of pitchers).

Does Stubbs ever try bunting his way on?
  • swamisez
Chris Heisey puts the ball in play more often, not much more but he does.
Drew Stubbs strikes out 33% of all his at bats. Heisey strikes out 26% of the time. Neither of these are good numbers but one of these hasn't been the lead off hitter all year.

Just to throw it out there, Robinson Cano strikes out 12% of his at bats.

    No.

He can't. Speed player physically. Power hitter mentally.

Same thing with Schafer for the Braves. They told him to bunt for a hit at least once a game or he was getting sent back down.
  • dave
Dusty only bunts with runners on 3rd and 2 strikes

I really want Sappelt up here to play CF.
  • karen lotz
lol, at least he always has the element of surprise working in his favor then.

I don't think you could find anything in their minor or major league careers to support that.

    WTF

Had to see ball down, no way he should have been sent there.

LF. Not CF. Stubbs is the best CF option, and he's perty damn good at it.

Nah, Sappelt is good defensively, and can provide offense. Heisey provides more offense than Stubbs, and plays a pretty good LF.

I didn't realize Sappelt is a proven major league hitter. Give me a break.
  • dave
I've seen Sappelt several times, he's a plus defender. He doesn't have the frame to run down as many balls in the gaps but he will get to the ones in front of him and do better against the wall. If you go with a guy like him you need a real bat in left to provide some pop IMO.
