Dempsey was on there and it mentioned he's being watched by AC Milan. I'm really happy for him....well deserved, BUT...I don't want him in the Serie A. He's got the swagger to play in England and I hope he stays. Of course I'll be happy for him if he goes to any big club....but PLEASE don't go to Italy.
Yeah, I dont want him in Italy. I dont want any American in Italy. I just dont think the style fits Americans well at all. Frankly, I think it only fits Italians and Zlatan well lol. Id love for him to go to someone who can compete for a CL berth though. Valencia, Villareal, Man City, Aston Villa, etc on the smaller scale of upgrades. -

It might be boring, but it is a winning style. -

I never said it wasnt. Just that it doesnt suit many players outside of Italy. Dempsey over there, imo, would hurt his play for the USMNT because the styles are so contrasting. -

Yeah his game would definitely be constrained if he placed for AC. The majority of the time Fulham runs their attack through him and he decides when and when not to push forward. That won't happen in Italy.
I think Man City would be a nice fit, but are they stocked in the mid field? -

I agree, I just had to defend Italian soccer. -
SageAston Villa has a role vacated by Ashley Young that would look quite good for a one Clint Dempsey.

I also don't think the United States can really play any other way than sitting back and hitting people on the counter.

HOW ABOUT THAT DUDE FREDDIE ADU!?!? -

gorocks99Totally unexpected poll results on ESPN.com right now:
"What are you most interested in this weekend?"
71,000 votes
Gold Cup final (US vs. Mexico): 38%
MLB interleague play: 25%
College World Series: 17%
Wimbledon: 14%
NASCAR Sprint Cup at Sonoma: 6%
Tell me again why the USSF can't get this tournament on a legitimate channel? ESPN, ESPN2, something that MOST people get. -
SportsAndLadyIf they're trying to get soccer become a popular sport in this country, they're really fucking it up big time here

NilesPacManSomehow, the Spanish television channels own the rights to the Gold Cup, and FOX Soccer gets licensing for the US games. After doing a bit of looking, my guess is that Univision bids an insane amount for the rights, as Spanish rights for the World Cup cost more than the English rights in America. From there, Univision does not like to license all the games to FOX Soccer, as it would take away from their audience, so we can only get US rights. I don't know if the USSF can actually do anything about this besides telling ESPN or FOX to bid more.

I don't really care about the other games with the Gold Cup, but the USSF could at least find a way to get the U.S. games on a network that everyone can watch. -
NilesPacManUSSF cannot do anything about the television rights; CONCACAF sells them to the highest bidder, and right now, that's currently Univision. Until ESPN or FOX puts up a larger bid to gain full control of the rights, the final and other US games will be buried on lesser television channels.

hoops23But Fox has the rights don't they? I've been watching the Gold Cup on the Fox Soccer channel.

No. Only to the USA games, and only FSC (Univision wont sell it to ESPN or Fox/FX/etc...only will allow the sale of USA games to FSC). Basically, they make money off the USA games because they charge more to Fox to pick up the games then they would make on Univision...but they only allow it on FSC, so Fox cant make much off of advertising.
Basically, Univision is fucking us, but at the same time...our guys need to step it up and outbid the fuckers. Then dont allow the televising of any Mexico games lol. -

Hopefully he plays the same way. He can be our best player when/if he does. By that I mean, knowing when to pass, hold, dribble, etc. He really made no mistakes in the 25 minutes he played and made a bunch of great plays. -
