As a fielder ya usually try to avoid hitting the runner because if the ump screws up the call then ya dont even get the out and guys run wild
Yes I think "tricky Brandon" was intentionally running on the fair side of the line to illegaly make the play as difficult as he could on the throw. And I agree that it is a risky play as the ML umps may not buy into the strategy of trying to get the interference call. -
mhs95_06Ump blows the call on the best defensive play of the game so far.
-
thavoiceRight handers almost always run on the inside of the line. It stems from where the start on that side of the plate and trying to run straight to the bag. You typically will only get the call if the ball his the runner in the back. If ya try to hit him in the back, and you dont get the call, then you dont even get an out so its risky to do it on purpose

Spot on...don't know how the ump missed that.
Take advantage Reds. -

CBSSPORTS.com shows this on the play by play in the 1st inning:SportsAndLady;729962 wrote:It was a 3-2 count
Rickie Weeks : Strike looking, Strike looking, Ball, Foul, Ball, Foul, Weeks homered to left center.
Looks like a 2-2 pitch to me. -
mhs95_06That's a good spot for a HR by your #1 hitter in the line-up, a 2 out solo HR.
So far offensively the disappointment has been the easy outs Gomes and Hernandez have made with two outs and 2 and 3 LOB! -
thavoiceAnother HR given up.
5-2. -
mhs95_06Volquez with 79 pitches thru 5. Dusty will probably send him out for the 6th unless his spot in the order comes up and the Reds are still behind.
-
mhs95_06Francisco swung at the wrong pitch of the two he saw with 2 on and 1 out!
-
mhs95_06Would have liked to have traded results on Stubbs last two 2 out ABs!
-
mhs95_06Smith gets a break on the 3rd strike call to Weeks!
-
mhs95_06Do you think Gomes error kept Smith in the game?
-
mhs95_06If Brandon Phillips hit the same ball as Braun did, do you think he would have hustled like Braun did to be in position to take 2nd base on the bobble by the LF?
-
thavoiceDepends. IS there guys up in the pen?
Plus.....3 run deficit in the 6th isnt a normal time ya see a manager playing specific matchups with the relievers -
mhs95_06Costly balk!
-
sherm03Fuck! That balk came back to hurt 'em.
-
thavoiceWould braun had scored on that single if he was second?
-

No chance. Bruce would have had him by five steps. -
thavoiceWith two outs they almos woulda have assuredly sent him.
Woulda loved to see Bruce get a shot at it. -
mhs95_06Pundits say the Reds are way better on defense than their challengers in the NL central. Doesn't look like it so far today with the Gomes E and the Hernandez poor effort on the WP.
