Reds vs Brewers OPENING DAY

  • mhs95_06
Volquez starts out 0-2 on Weeks, then gets a 2-2 fastball right in the middle for a HR, the a follow-up HR by the 2nd batter.

Volquez: Off to a G-R-E-A-T start.

Hahahaha, wowwwww. I wonder how many times in history a pitcher has given up back-to-back HRs to start a season?
  • mhs95_06
Baker 3-3 in opening days in Cincy. 3-0 for the opposition and 0-3 for the Reds! Looks like maybe 0-4 for Dusty as a Red.

Volquez' command issues should have been resolved by now after the Tommy John.

    It was a 3-2 count

Looks like the Geezer I put on the Beer Boys in the vCash forum was a wise investment.

Who gives a shit it's gone.

Not a good start. I've not been high on volquez and thought if anyone should start it should be wood. Hopefully edinson gets it together and stops the bleeding.

Over/under for HR for this game? Right now I put it at 6
  • SportsAndLady
    Over 6

    Hopefully Quez settles down here

He got blizted in his last outing of ST against a lineup with 3, maybe for big leagures in the lineup. and he couldnt throw strikes.

Already has 30 pitches, few HR.s, a WP......in the first.

Guess I missed seeing the 2-2 ball! Its not as bad for EV as he was trying to avoid a lead-off walk, but missed in the middle. He was trying to make sure he didn't give up a lead-off walk and be sure to catch the plate, but not like that!

Yeah good point. At least he's at least trying to say to himself "throw a strike, don't walk him" because that's where Volquez gets in trouble, when he starts bouncin around the plate. Just throw strikes, not many will be able to hit your stuff.

Hernandez seems un-enthused about opening day and playing for pennant for real. He didn't try much too keep the runner from getting in scoring position by keeping the pitch from getting by!

Sure hope Maloney is ready to go today after this start by Volquez.
  • mhs95_06
Marty calls that hit by Stubbs a "line drive"????
  • mhs95_06
Phillips close to losing his sacrifice if the pitcher just pegs him in the back and they call interference and send Stubs back!
  • mhs95_06
Some people thought the Votto drive was out, but you could see his disappointed expression as soon as he hit it.

It's early for everyone, give the old, cranky guy a break.

I have a feeling volquez is gonna have a terrible year. Hope I'm wrong.

Nah, his visa issues delayed his prep in spring training. I think we are seeing the results of that today. Give him a couple starts. He'll be fine.
  • mhs95_06
I predict if Volquez gets a sacrifice bunt down this inning, the Reds will win.

I think i misunderstood what you first said...I almost blasted ya. Are you saying BP was running in the basline and such and not on the outside? If so...then yeah you are correct. I never count on an ump to make that right call.....but it is different at the MLB level!

As a fielder ya usually try to avoid hitting the runner because if the ump screws up the call then ya dont even get the out and guys run wild
