Cavs trade Mo Williams for Baron Davis

    Per Marc Spears Yahoo Tweet..

    Thoughts?

Apparently it's Williams and Moon for Davis and Clips 1st round pick this year.. which could be big.

    Lateral move IMO.

Does Baron Davis' contract come off the books at the end of the year?
  • hoops23
    No.

This is the start of a domino effect though... Appears Leon Powe is close to being traded as well...

Baron Davis due to make 13.9 million next season, $14.8 million year after that. Turns 32 in April. Details of trade still a little sketchy.

    Nice trade!
Clippers have agreed in principle to acquireards Mo Williams and Jamario Moon from Cleveland for guard Baron Davis and a 2011 1st round pick (Clippers pick), sources tells Y! Sports.

I dont know why anyone would want Baron Davis. He played well for about 2 weeks when he came back from injury this year when he was just throwing it up to Blake and D. Jordan. He was getting about 10 assists a game on alley-oops. Since then he has been a ball hog POS again. Though, that could coincide with EJ and his broken wrist.

I think this move was made for that first round pick. BDiddy's contract turns into a big expiring next season too.

The only reason the Cavs would do this is that they are 3-4 years away from being competitive and that extra 1st round pick may(or may not) help. Baron sucks, and I used to think he was very very good.
  • Trueblue23
Baron Davis is a fat piece of shit.
  • hoops23
Again, the first round pick is unprotected, so the Cavs could end up with 2 top ten picks THIS season... Then, we'll suck next year and end up with another top 10 pick with a bunch of cap space.

The FO is going about this the right way.

They still have the LeBron trade exception don't they? Seems like everyone on this team should be available, except for Hickson.

It's a great move because of the pick. Mo has been a favorite of mine but it's seemed like he's bitched out this season. Doesn't wanna try to man up, he'd rather just sit on the bench.

Cle will hopefully use that trade exception to find something else too.
  • hoops23
Yes, Cle still has that huge TPE, which doesn't expire until July, which is well after the draft. So if they don't find anything by the deadline, that's something they could dangle out there during the draft.

Clips 1st rounder...that's all this trade was about.

We got something for Mo which, honestly I thought we'd get a ton less.
  • OQB
Davis and Williams are pratically the same player, like a lot of you have said....this trade was for the 1st round pick, Which was a good move on Chris Grant's part. Now we could possibly have 2 top 10 picks in this year's draft.

Outside of Hickson I would put everyone on this team on the trade block, and try to get as many draft picks as possible.
  • BR1986FB
Smart move by Chris Grant. Stockpile those draft picks.

Anytime you can get the Clippers first round pick, you do it.

    What was LA thinking?

aka the OKC way. Could turn into our Kevin Durant/Jeff Green draft this offseason by having two lottery picks.

Great move! Baron Davis is just a filler. That pick is the reason they made this trade. I like it.

it's the Clippers. They don't think.

I'd keep Sessions over Hickson. I think Sessions has the potential to be an outstanding PG.

I'd probably keep both of 'em, still not certain if Hickson's elevator reaches the top floor though.

I like the trade. With the Clippers, you know its guaranteed top 10, possible top 5. Like someone said, Baron Davis and Mo are mostly the same player, so basically Jamario for a top 10 pick..ill take it.

If I were a Clippers fan, I would be irate! Who the hell gives up a first round pick for Mo Williams and Jamario Moon?

The Clips will save quite a bit of $$$ over the next two seasons. Moon expires after this year. Mo makes approximately $17 million over the 2 years after this. Davis makes about $29 million over those same 2 seasons. Mo is also 3 years younger. The Clippers are going to get close to the same production from Mo and save $12 million over the next 2 years. An unnamed Clippers exec said this trade shows how much they hate this draft, although they are going to put that spin on this trade, rather than coming out and saying that they made a mistake in signing BDiddy to that "fat" contract and are doing this to save $$$.
