osu45804I understand Melo is a lot younger and in his prime right now as a player but when I look back at what the Celtics gave up to get KG ( Al Jefferson, Wally Szczerbiak, Sebastian Telfair, Ricky Davis, Ryan Gomes, Theo Ratliff and 2 Draft Picks) we got off light lol

what do you want them to do? Everybody complained when Lebron waited until the last minute to take his talents to South Beach. Melo was upfront -
jordo212000I heard that the guy who the Knicks were mainly worried about giving up was Mozgov. Tells me everything I need to know about why this franchise has been bad for so long. If you can get Melo, you do it.

Wow thats a ransom for a guy who just fills out a stat sheet and is completely uninterested on the def end.

The knicks gave up their entire young core. What are they going to build with going forward now? Whose going to play center for them now? Amare cant/doesnt want to play Center full time. -
KR1245At least its over.........until next year when this shit starts all over with CP3, Williams and Howard
-
KR1245Thought Greenberg had a good question on Mike and Mike.
Why doesnt this stuff happen in the NFL? Peyton Manning is arguably the greatest QB in the history of the NFL. There was never talk that he had to go to NY to take his status to the next level. You never hear about Tom Brady and Larry Fitz talking in the offseason about teaming up or guys demanding a trade to a certain team/ city because its a "better" place to live -

You're wrong.
In order to get Carmelo after the season, the Knicks would have to release Chandler anyways. That would have left Landry Fields, 'Melo, and Gallinari to play 1 or 2 positions. The Knicks decided Fields was more valuable. And Mozgov? I'm sure the Knicks can find a replacement, considering the dude wasn't even on the team last year.
So basically the trade now becomes 'Melo and Billups for Felton, Gallinari, Mozgov (who IMO is very replaceable maybe not at this time, but definitely moving forward) and draft picks (only 1 of which is a 1st). Considering the Knicks are heavy favorites to get Chris Paul, I don't see a problem in a Billups/Felton exchange for 1.5 seasons.
Don't see where the Knicks gave up their entire young core, especially when they couldn't have all been on the team next year anyways. Great trade for NY.
COA, I will concede your point they need to find a center before they can win anything, but I strongly disagree about what they gave up. -

Franchise tags. And blockbuster trades don't really happen in the NFL. The NFL is designed to keep players on their teams. -
killer_ewokI remember some on here saying getting Amar'e was a bad move because of his defense, etc. How's it turning out so far? Not bad overall. And I also remember people saying that the Heat would be the big 3 and a bunch of scrubs so that wouldn't work out. They seem to be during okay down in South Beach.
I'm not worried about the rest of this season....this is a big move for the future as NY will be an extremely attractive destination for big time free agents. CP3, Dwight, Deron......I'll take any one of them. The future is looking bright....finally. -

Good post. -
thedynasty1998This was a no brainer for the Knicks. The piece that everyone is downplaying is Billups, who can really help this team this year because he plays some defense and is experienced. I love that they were able to keep Landry Fields, because I thought he was their biggest asset other than Amare and Felton.
The Knicks have a starting 5 of:
Billups
Fields
Carmelo
Amare
Turiaf
Now that's not good enough to win a championship, but it's better than what they had as of yesterday.
Then you have solid guys off the bench in Balkman and Brewer and Williams to go foul a big.
And the Knicks didn't have to give up a ton of draft picks. -

What is the fascination with centers in the NBA today? The Knicks want to play up and down, so they can make teams adjust to them. Put Amare at center and make a guy like Kenrick Perkins guard him.
I agree that eventually the Knicks will need more size, but let's look at the competition in the east right now:
Miami - no center
Boston - Kendrick Perkins. He isn't going to beat anyone.
Chicago - Noah - Not a big concern
Orlando - obviously causes problems to more teams than just the Knicks
Atlanta - Horford
There really is not cause for concern, at this time. -

That's all dependent on the knicks getting a team into their style of play though. If the celts got the game slower, Perkins would eat Amare alive.
I see what you're saying though and don't think they have to freak out and go looking for a center. This league has very few dominate big men anyway. -

First off, Boston is still probably better than the Knicks. However, the Knicks will be a tough out.
Secondly, Perkins will not eat Amare alive. A great game for Perkins is 10 points and 15 rebounds, which could be possible. But that's hardly the type of performance that is going to beat a team. Plus, Perkins would be matched with Turiaf or Williams and Amare would be up against Garnett.
