Pittsburgh Penguins 2010-2011 season thread

  • GoPens
Any word of Islanders suspensions? There should be some there too. They're the ones who decided to goon it up.
  • End of Line
No word yet. Martin and Gillies had a hearing this morning.
  • GoPens
Gillies got a 9 game suspension, Martin 4 games and the Islander team was fined $100,000. After a league review, Bylsma will NOT get a suspension.

The Pens are really beat up. Its like the minor team has moved up. Going to be a tough road for awhile.

Pens are at the NY Rangers today. It seems like a black cloud is over this team, they were in a bus accident yesterday on their way to practice in NYC, had to take cabs to get to the venue and the entire team had their gear on.

I just looked that up and yea he KO'd DiPi alright lol
    Gillies is a joke.

Statement from Pittsburgh Penguins Co-Owner and Hockey Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux
“Hockey is a tough, physical game, and it always should be. But what happened Friday night on Long Island wasn’t hockey. It was a travesty. It was painful to watch the game I love turn into a sideshow like that.

“The NHL had a chance to send a clear and strong message that those kinds of actions are unacceptable and embarrassing to the sport. It failed.

“We, as a league, must do a better job of protecting the integrity of the game and the safety of our players. We must make it clear that those kinds of actions will not be tolerated and will be met with meaningful disciplinary action.

“If the events relating to Friday night reflect the state of the league, I need to re-think whether I want to be a part of it.”

A surprising and very strong statement from Lemieux.

But you go ahead and keep giving Cooke a paycheck, Lemieux.
  • GoPens
Big difference between having a goon on a team (and yes, Cooke is a huge goon) and having an entire TEAM go out with a gameplan of assault--hence the $100,000 team fine against the Islanders. That's what Lemieux is complaining about.

The same Pittsburgh faithful who were crying about James Harrison's fines, are now complaining that other teams in the NHL should be punished more harshly for being physical?
  • GoPens
Difference between playing the game and calling up AHL players with the intent to injure.

2-0 lead and lose 5-3. Shit.

Full disclosure. I dislike the Penguins strongly.

What happened Friday night was a disgrace to the league and the Islanders. No player should EVER be allowed to make a free run on a goalie like that. And what Gilles did was disgraceful. Makes me sick. He should have gotten 15+ games IMO. Any intent to injure should start at 15 minimum.

I almost feel bad for this team given all the injuries they have, but they won a cup 2 years ago so I cant feel too bad.

+1. What a joke of a double standard.

Back to back humiliating defeats for the Pens to NY teams. Not surprising as NY teams tend to be more mentally tough and the Pens have a ton on injuries. Be interesting story to follow how big of a spiral effect this has for them.

Are you two shacked up together in a hotel room together? Who brought the whips and chains?

Soup grapes from Crosby getting injured.

If you see name plate and numbers you don't check him, he had plenty of time to slow up.

There is no comparison between James Harrison's fines and the incident during the Islander's game.....not even close.

What happened on Long Island was absolutely ridiculous.

Are you that stupid? The Islanders were instructed to go out and hurt people from start to finish. Plus they bring up a minor leaguer who's only purpose is to fight while they still have their regular enforcer (Gillies) in the lineup.

Yourself, your alter ego (rawdawg) and like that need to just leave this thread and go troll in the basement where you belong!

Just like the situations your pal was trying to compare, the sports are completely different.

The rest I'm sure you can figure out.

Did you even watch the game? It wasn't NY being physical....they were gooning it up the entire game. I'm all for a little revenge, when its warranted. This was not. It was bullshit.
