  But if we as a society decide that people who have been in jail/committed crimes aren't fit to hold jobs/don't deserve them even after they've served their sentences or paid their fines then we're sort of encouraging the continuance of those behaviors.
  
  That isn't to say that it's right for them to continue down a path of crime or that we have to hand hold them back into society and give them a shot above people who didn't commit crimes. I don't know if this is coming out right and I'm sure someone will try to twist it into "Pants hates law abiding citizens" or something. But that's not what I'm saying.
  
  I think the best way to say it is that if we get caught up in the "well they're getting what they deserve" or "they don't deserve anything after x" mantra we might put people who have already showed they can make poor decisions into a position where it's very easy to make a poor decision.

  Mike Vick knows what he should and shouldn't be doing. Hell, he's probably more aware of it than the average person because I'm sure he has coaches and agent is contently preaching it to him. But when you continue to hang around the type of people that are toting guns in clubs history you're not doing yourself any favors. I can't really say how big of an idiot he is until all the details come out but his image was already on very, very thin ice and this isn't helping.

  You have to be kidding me. Vick is lucky he was allowed back in the league, the fact is he ISN'T any other individual because of his past. It isn't extremely stupid its 100% accurate. Surely you understand how parole and conditional reinstatement works, right? Seriously, do you understand how that works?

  Why is he lucky he was allowed back in the league again? If a team wanted him to play for them and he performed at a level that they deemed okay he should be fine.
  
  He is an idiot for hanging around alcohol and exposing himself to unsavory people again though. With that I agree with you. Especially if part of his agreement with the NFL was that he'd avoid those things. If that's the case then he obviously needs whatever the appropriate punishment is.

  The guy was in prison (and in a federal pound me in the ass prison in Leavenworth, not the local county drunk tank), the NFL has MORE power than a parole officer, they, like any other employer (or more accurately a collection of employers) can dictate who works for them or not. Pac-Man Jones may be a bigger jerk, but at least he doesn't have the prison record.
  
  Vick IMO was given a good deal considering his past, and it isn't as if his performance on the field was that stellar this past year. If I'm him and I need the money (which he does given his bankruptcy) I'm holing myself in a monastery.

  Bingo. I like to drink, drug, and party as much as the next guy. But no one has ever been shot at a party I've been to. It's not b/c people don't get shot where I live though. I know exactly where to hang out if I want to increase the chances of seeing someone get shot at the place I'm hanging out. But I'm wise enough to avoid them. Obviously the same can't be said of Vick. mix alcohol with thugs and someone gets shot outside the party. So what's Vick do??? Mixes alcohol w/ thugs.

  I guess my only reaction to Vick at this point is, when do we hold him responsible for demonstrating behavior that suggests that he is cognizant of the poor choices he has made and the need to clean up his act?
