I dont recall the name of the cafe (it was near a canal [LOL]) but I legit had the most insane/best apple pie I have ever had in Amsterdam. Apparently it's a thing.like_that;1877080 wrote:I lied, we found an even better deal to Amsterdam, so we are doing that now. I know the food isn't as good as Paris, but any recs? Beer? Other shit? -

Sounds like you hit all the legit spots, and your plan for the next two days are solid. I haven't eaten at FIG but it is supposed to be amazing. It is hot as hell, even in the middle of October. I usually wear shorts on Christmas. I live a couple miles north of Boone Hall out in suburbia Mt. Pleasant.ptown_trojans_1;1877065 wrote:Thanks for the recs. We did Lewis bbq when we rolled in for lunch and it was amazing brisket and hot sausage. We did Husk for dinner. One of the best southern meals I have had. I love how they change the menu daily. We did some tours downtown that was nice, saw the French area. I had a drink at the Gin Joint, and that was delicious. They had an apple whiskey cocktail that tasted like fall.
Did Boone Hall yesterday morning. The wife loved it and I didn't mind it either. Beautiful scenery. We did some house tours yesterday as well and finished with some soul food at Nana's Seafood and Soul.
We are awaiting on friends to drive down from Myrtle for today and tomorrow. Plans are lunch at Rodney's bbq today and dinner at Fig with some bar hopping at Prohibition, 492, the Cocktail Club, Proof, and the Belmont. We will do Sumpter tomorrow AM as it has been hot and humid as shit down here.
Outside the heat, I do love it down here. -

QuakerOatsIt is probably closed now because of the weather, but the outdoor bar at Trump Tower - 16th floor I think - is fabulous with spectacular views. Gene & Georgetti has some great steak, the bone-in filet is worth the $58.

There are many museums in Amsterdam and i think you will enjoy them or not depending on your interests. I did not see Anne Frank's house because my wife didn't want to pay for it. I regret that. We did go to a sex museum which was not as interesting as you might think. A bunch of old porn and old sex toys. I could have done without that.like_that;1877080 wrote:I lied, we found an even better deal to Amsterdam, so we are doing that now. I know the food isn't as good as Paris, but any recs? Beer? Did you go to the red light district? I heard that is pretty interesting to see.FatHobbit;1879010 wrote:There are many museums in Amsterdam and i think you will enjoy them or not depending on your interests. AutomatikYou can't really miss it, especially if you're arriving by train. I stayed in that area (De Wallen) both times I went. It also has has a lot of coffee shops in a small area...also gift shops, bars, food places. Try a FEBO, a food place, but the entire place is vending machines. Amazing concept!
The Red Light District isn't really a huge deal as some people make it out to be, but definitely worth checking out. Just some windows, red lights, attractive (or not at all) girls in the windows. WARNING: There is a small section with blue lights. Blue lights = ladyboys :laugh:
One thing I wish I did was rent a bike and explore more outside of the city center. It's a very easy city to navigate. My friends were just there last week and did this, said it was an awesome time. -

We walked through the red light district to see it. It was a little creepy/funny watching people go in the rooms knowing what was going to happen next. My wife was student teaching nearby. I had to drag her to a coffee shop because i wanted to see that too, but she wouldn't stay very long because she was afraid she would see a parent or someone she knew. (I don't think they would have judged because they were there too but she wanted to leave so...)like_that;1879011 wrote:Did you go to the red light district? thavoice12 day, 2 part 3000 mile trip.
The highlites;
CHICAGO: Trump Tower,,,pretty awesome. Ruth Criss and Pizanos...pretty good food but you have to be retarded to wanna live in Chicago.
IOWA: OSU/Iowa game. Equally sad and cool for the end of first qtr wave to the childrens hospital. American PIckers place nothing but a souvinier shop as I expected. Field Of Dreams...pretty cool. Pretty ironic they were combining the corn when we were there but left about 30 feet in the OF fence area. LeClair/Quad City area is a really nice area.
WISCONSIN:
Lambeau field. AWESOME! Gotta catch a game there. Milwaukee......Guns and Roses concert was fantastic. NO opener but they played for 3.5 hours. BEST EATERY was at Carsons. I am a steak guy and it was very good...better than Ruth Chris, but they had a pork chop that puts them all to shame. smoked 16 hrs, charred and broiled. Man was it amazing.
Second leg..
Nashville. Amazing city. will be back. Bengals/tits game. Front row where the bengals come out. Wife son got autographs, pic with Dalton, 3 pairs of gloves and high five from burfict after his ejection. They really know how to put on a salute to service game..unlike Cleveland. Toured downtown, Vets parade which was cool but way tooooo much filler.
Trip home stopped at the Kentucky Speedway. Drove up to it as nothing was in the way. Security came up and said we could not be there. Asked if we could look around and he said...FOllow Me. Took us the middle of the infield and then took the kids on a ride around the track. We aren't race people but it was pretty cool.
TL. DR.i know,.but if you know anything...if you see a CARSONS.......go and get the pork chop! AMAZING> -
