justincredibleI'm doing another solo Boundary Waters trip this year the week before Labor Day. Frontier is running a huge sale and I found a one-way flight from Cincinnati to Minneapolis for $20. My wife is going to fly to Minneapolis on Saturday and I'll pick her up and check out the city and head home on Monday. This worked out well for me as I can stay in the wilderness an extra day.
That said, other than a Twins game, what do we need to check out in Minneapolis? -

Matts Tavern for a Jucy Lucy. Holy goodness (but let it sit for a minute or 2, the cheese will burst out like molten lava)justincredible;1861543 wrote:I'm doing another solo Boundary Waters trip this year the week before Labor Day. Other than that, the city itself is pretty cool to just walk around. There is a good dive bar with decent Coney Dogs in St. Paul (20 min or so), but I forget the name (can find out if you'd like). The new Vikings Stadium is amazing, if they are doing tours. Hells Kitchen has a good selection of food, and is close to center city with a lot of good bars around it.
Ive only been during football season, so always winter. But I'd guess the river has a lot of cool activities to do. From my 4 winter trips, I've always really enjoyed it. -

Get a basket of fries and let the cheese drip all over them as you eat it. -

Britts pub is cool rooftop with lawn bowling that is worth checking out if its nice. Take your wife to Yum! Kitchen and Bakery. Really solid food, and I'm guessing your wife will like it.justincredible;1861543 wrote:I'm doing another solo Boundary Waters trip this year the week before Labor Day. AutomatikIn the spirit of bitching about traveling for bachelor / wedding related stuff...
A friend just decided to go with St Maarten for his bachelor party, and I'm not mad about it. It's during the SXM Festival and we're getting a 20 person villa. I've been wanting to do a warm weather, non-US festival for a while, so I'm pumped. It's not cheap though, gladly we have a lot of time to sort it out.

thavoiceAnyone been to Badlands National Park in SD?
If so, how many days would suffice to visit and do enough to make it worth it and any suggestions what to do.
I know Mt Rushmore is a couple hours away. I realize its just a one shot thing there but would be something to see once.
Thanks. -

We didn't go to the Badlands, but I LOVED South Dakota when I was there a couple years ago. We went to Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park (Sylvan Lake, Needles Highway - AMAZING), drove Spearfish Canyon and stopped in Deadwood. One of my favorite trips ever.thavoice;1870154 wrote:Anyone been to Badlands National Park in SD?

We didn't venture further east than Rapid City. We were only there for four days and we were staying in Custer.superman;1870204 wrote:Wall Drug? The Corn Palace? -

Never really did Badlands (not much of a National Park guy), but I lived in SD for two years.thavoice;1870154 wrote:Anyone been to Badlands National Park in SD?

Rushmore and Crazy Horse are good. I prefer Crazy Horse over Rushmore. Deadwood is nice. You driving through the state east-to-west?
Both are a waste of time. Good thing is they're free. Wouldn't spend a dime at either place.superman;1870204 wrote:Wall Drug? The Corn Palace? -

Unsure on the route there. May take a different way than normally would so we don't take the same route back. Heading to Milwaukee or Chicago on the way home to see guns and roses concert.OSH;1870643 wrote:Never really did Badlands (not much of a National Park guy), but I lived in SD for two years.

justincredibleGoing to a wedding in Lexington, MI this weekend. Stopping by Detroit for a night on Friday to go to a Tigers game. Anything worth checking out in or near Detroit before the game? Namely looking for brewery suggestions, but we're up for checking out anything interesting.

Commander of Awesome
Most of the good Michigan Breweries are in the Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo area, but Jolly Pumpkin is decent. I'd recommend Schramm's Mead which is near detroit, pretty interesting meads if you're into that. Might be better off finding a great beer bar, or just checking out some random brewery that might be great, just not well known.justincredible;1871293 wrote:Going to a wedding in Lexington, MI this weekend. GOONx19Jolly Pumpkin is my favorite brewery. I've never been to their physical location, but I've ever had a beer of theirs that I didn't enjoy.

thavoiceWell our replacements arrived today so my random traveling abroad is a month from ending! 4 countries, some for just merely hours, one for months, another for 5 weeks...it's been an interesting ride that is for sure.
Think gonna do the Badlands that I brought up earlier and than a couple other weekends....Thinking Nashville for sure and likely milwaukee or chicago for a couple days.
Anyone stay at the opreyland hotel in nashville? -
iclfan2Going to Texas for a quick weekend trip in October (Dallas and Kileen - Fort Hood). I need to try In-N-Out again bc the one I had in LA wasn't good, but could have been because it wasn't fresh. Wife is going to make us stop in Waco at Magnolia on the way down to Fort Hood too, so that should be terrible. Will be eating BBQ or Tex Mex for every meal.

Uncle TedHeaded to Panama City, Free! So hells yeah. Free place to stay and free golf. Leaving Tuesday and staying for about 5 days. Panama isn't my first choice of places to go, but since I don't really have any out of pocket money going out, I figure what the heck.
