New guy with a few P90x questions

Yeah, just because this thread is labeled "P90X", it shouldn't keep others from posting other health & fitness stuff here.Sonofanump;1151698 wrote:No need for a forum. This thread is the 5th most popular and the Paleo thread is the 8th most popular. -

Then a mod should change the thread title and/or sticky it.Sonofanump;1151698 wrote:No need for a forum. This thread is the 5th most popular and the Paleo thread is the 8th most popular. -

They better keep P90X in the thread title. How about:Automatik;1151725 wrote:Then a mod should change the thread title and/or sticky it.

AutomatikFor the past 5 weeks or so I've been doing intermittent fasting using the Lean Gains method. 16 hour fast followed by an 8 hour "feeding" window. Has anyone heard of done this?
I was rather skeptical at first, but so far so good.

The leangains site is what got me into it, but I've found that rippedbody is more in depth in terms of workout/diet. -

Ok Ok, I'll check it out. Can you do me a favor and bump yours or any significant post about it? I'm interested to learn about how others have it setup regarding how you schedule the workout around fasting.BR1986FB;1151766 wrote:I've been doing it (LeanGains) for quite some time. I stop eating at 8pm. I train at 4am taking in SciVation Xtend BCAA'S preworkout, during workout, after workout and then at about 10am. Break the fast at 12pm. That simple. First meal is 1200-2000 (2000 not typical) calories. Second meal, before 8pm, is much smaller.Automatik;1151770 wrote:Ok Ok, I'll check it out. I drink coffee with stevia or Diet Cherry Coke Zero/Diet Dr Pepper (periodically) during the fasting period.
If you haven't made one of Martin Berkhan's cheesecakes you're really missing something. I've broken a fast eating one of those things. 1200 calories with 120+ G's of protein and <10g's of fat. -
SonofanumpI'm off to do some pushups. Later.

I've heard those cheesecakes are the bomb. I've made one before, but not as elaborate as his. I actually just downloaded the Part 1 recipe PDF yesterday. I'm going to try the "turkey muffins" tonight.BR1986FB;1151773 wrote:I stop eating at 8pm. So you're only doing 2 meals/day? I'm at 3. I can only lift at night, around 6:30-7 so I have to break the fast before working out during the week.
It was difficult at first, but after some tweaking I think I've gotten the routine down. I eat from 2pm-10pm. Aim for 1500-1700 calories total throughout the day, and my weight in protein grams, around 180ish. So far I love it. I've maintained my current weight, which is what I aimed for, while shedding some fat. My workout isn't even where I'd like it to be. Due to injury I couldn't really push myself like I wanted to or even do some primary lifts such as bench and press....which really sucked. After a year I'm finally making strides and getting back to where I was before the surgery.
Now I'm considering focusing more on my macros, such as weighing food and just being more strict overall. Have you checked rippedbody.jp? They have a nice breakdown regarding diet/macros.
Anyway, nice to know someone else does it. It's been a completely new thing to me. I've always been about the high cardio, small meals plan to shed fat, but since starting intermittent fasting w/ LG I've become a firm believer. -

I workout 3 days a week FASTED, Tues/Thurs/Sat, my fasting is from 8pm-noon. Pretty easy routine to follow once you get in the groove of it. I've been doing it for 16 weeks now and have noticed great changes in my body and my strength. Like BR, I do take BCAA'S pre workout. I like Purple Wraath but SciVation is good as well. I break my fast right after my workout with Whey and creatine. Go home and eat my post workout meal and take my Ultra Now fish oil. The key is just to make sure you follow the macros and watch what you eat. High Carbs low fat on workout days, low carb high fat on rest days. And always a ton of protein!Automatik;1151770 wrote:Ok Ok, I'll check it out. Can you do me a favor and bump yours or any significant post about it? Eating like he prescribes is SO much easier. That 6 small meals every 3 hours stuff was bullshit for me. I like to eat big so that first meal is heaven. Two meals for me is fine because the first meal is so big I'm not really hungry until dinner.Automatik;1151785 wrote:I've heard those cheesecakes are the bomb. Since starting this I've actually cut the workout volume down significantly. Mostly compound stuff with a bit of assistance stuff. Throwing in some bodyweight exercises. Only do two sets per move and it's in reverse pyramid fashion. Cardio consists of walking (2-3x's per week) and weighted Prowler pushes 2x's per week after weight workouts. -
AutomatikI've read that working out fasted is the way to go, but with my schedule I can't do it. I aim to workout 3-4 times a week. Weekend workouts are always fasted.
Also, BCCAs before every workout, although I just started taking them.
I have the Gaspari brand in pill form. They suck, definitely going the powder route next time. -

Purple Wraath is excellent...just a bit more pricy. I loaded up on the old style SciVation before they discontinued it. I know the new stuff is more expensive and I hope they didn't screw up the watermelon flavor.birddog23;1151792 wrote:I workout 3 days a week FASTED, Tues/Thurs/Sat, my fasting is from 8pm-noon. I'm actually stronger/more focused when I train fasted. Eating a small meal or drinking a shake prior to a workout either left me a) wanting to puke or b) lethargic. -

Do a Google search for "original Scivation Xtend." You can still get it dirty cheap (like $10-12 a container) if you look hard enough. The grape & apple is pretty good. Heard the orange is nasty. Watermelon, which is the Holy Grail, is like gold if you can find it in the original formula.Automatik;1151797 wrote:I've read that working out fasted is the way to go, but with my schedule I can't do it.
