Slavery in America and around the world where Irish but don't tell the Blacks that more Irish slaves where killed an the treatment was brutal, Irish families, women and children sold at a lower price than Blacks.
Some of you should do more research on slavery in the south...
Just like the blacks of today, you never experienced slavery. So what the fuck is your point?

You should? It seems Irish slavery didn't have much to do with the confederacy. How upset should you be with something that happened centuries ago and no one walking the earth today has much relevance with. Who would you be upset with?
Also, what does any of this have to do with your original topic?
Is our country more racially divide now than 8 years ago…. ?
After answering that question ask your self this question: Has the Black community, families and employment of Blacks improved over the last 8 years?
No one agreed that Obama isn't aiding racial tension so you decide that you're the victim because of Irish slavery in the 17th century.

Yet they still have meaning and fwiw I'm not calling to bring down the flag. I actually don't give a shit. There are much more pressing issues to worry about.

In perspective, how does lowering the flag change anything? Is the pattern of racism really going to change or will this move generate a substantially adverse response from the racists themselves? Would this possibly originate a move from racist nut bags or perhaps originate new ones? This is thin ice that I wouldn't want to make a decision on.

All I know is that for the entirety of my life, the flag is a flag of racism. I don't know one person (in ohio) that doesn't fly this in their rusted out pickup truck with a gun rack in the back and a 6" lift kit to match.

But the state of SC should decide. Not the PUSA

This could be a racist statement against that hillbilly redneck with the rusted truck and the 6" lift, not calling you out but hey it has become a present truth.

The confederate flag is to rednecks what wearing your pants around your thighs is to bangers.

You stated that perhaps he isn't a nut job and just a racist. I can't see how someone could walk into a fucking church of all places and just start unloading rounds into innocent people without having some sort of mental illness. I don't care how racist you are.
Would you say anyone who ever lynched or murdered a black person was mentally ill? There is a long history of murder and intimidation of blacks in the south.

Except you don't have politicians saying flag burning should be banned like they are saying the confederate flag should be banned.

The Flag Desecration Amendment that was proposed (and passed the House but failed in the Senate) every year for 10 years would disagree with you there.

It is interesting how the stars n bars and swastika are symbols of racism that repulse most Americans yet the Rising Sun of Japan can be flown pretty much undeterred. The black Islam flag with Arabic writing is becoming a lightning rod of controversy too.

Because the Rising Sun/ISIS flags are very common in America right, moron?

I knew it wouldn't take long for someone to put forth the idiotic position that "state's rights" and slavery are distinct and separate. Of the "state's rights" the states were fighting for, the primary one was the right to determine whether a state could allow human beings to own other human beings.

I think it's probably time to get rid of the flag.

I remember when we'd be driving down 65 to Biloxi, and we'd be driving through Bama and there is this HUGE confederate flag on the side of the highway. I was always thinking, I can't believe they have that flag flying everywhere.

And yea, you LOST. that too.

The flag is definitely a symbol of racism in modern time. There really is no debate to that. To be fair to the Ohioans who do it, for some I think that is just their attempt to pretend they are more southern. I know quite a few dipshits from Ohio who repped the flag in one way or the other, but they were not even close to being racist. In fact most of them were good friends with black people. They were simply idiots pretending to be southern. These are the same type of people from Ohio who wear cowboy boots and somehow adopt this southern accent from Ohio LOL.

As far as the flag goes in general, I understand it is offensive, but there is really nothing illegal about it. Do we really want our government making decisions on whether to censor flags or not, especially while people can burn the American flag? I just don't see what it would accomplish except bringing further tension. Even the flags on government property. Why not leave it up to the tax payers to make the decision on whether or not the flag should be represented at official government sites?

There is a difference between a public institution ( The State of South Carolina), flying a flag viewed by many as a symbol of racism, and an individual(s) desecrating an American flag in protest. Likewise, private individuals should be able to fly a Confederate flag as protected free speech, but that right does not exist for a public institution.
