This is absolutely the truth...especially The Ed Show. Revolting.reclegend22;1593453 wrote:Neither CNN nor Fox comes close to approaching MSNBC, the most intolerable television channel on cable.
I have to say that one benefit of this disaster is that all of the 'opinion shows' (nothing on Fox, CNN, MSNBC, etc are 'news shows'...they are just opinion shows, IMO) are focusing on the plane disappearance and not on bashing the otehr party.thavoice;1593468 wrote:Just gets nauseating watching FNC now. I've watched 'The Ed Show' and 'The Five' on separate nights this week and each of them devoted the entire 30 minutes to covering the plane disappearance. Very refreshing! -

Yeah..you do have a point there. I catch The Five every once in awhile...mostly just to check out the legs of Guilfoyle or whomever they have on the end...wkfan;1593475 wrote:This is absolutely the truth...especially The Ed Show. Revolting.

gutoff-topic, but I noticed CNN is referring to people's significant other as "partner" rather than husband/girlfriend, even when the person isn't gay.

This morning they had the lady on who is the girlfriend of the American guy on the flight. She was introduced as the girlfriend and she commented on how she doesnt know how that got out, as she described this guy as her 'life partner' and not boyfriend/girlfriend.gut;1593479 wrote:off-topic, but I noticed CNN is referring to people's significant other as "partner" rather than husband/girlfriend, even when the person isn't gay.
To me...when one says life partner that sounds like they are gay. -

Yeah, might have been the same person....I noticed it when they were talking about some guy the other night, and referred to his "partner" - turned out he was divorced and the woman referred to was his girlfriend. Could actually be the proper use of the word, but uncommon.thavoice;1593482 wrote:This morning they had the lady on who is the girlfriend of the American guy on the flight. At first I thought maybe they were talking about a business partner...could have sworn it was a different couple.
Wait, I remember....think it was an article I read about a guy on the flight - living in Malaysia, I think - had his days mixed up and was going to miss the plane, but his partner in Beijing called and told him to hurry up...and then later in the story it became clear they were actually a couple and looking for an apartment together in Malaysia. Odd thing was I think they actually work for the same company, so they were, in fact, business partners! -
gutBy the way, after looking at those pictures of "debris", what an absolute joke to have crowd sourced the satellite image search. No wonder they had millions of hits.

Maybe they planned to spend their lives together but not get married. Marriage isn't for everyone. I would say that the boyfriend/girlfriend title isn't quite right for a couple who has been together for a very long time, or plans to be (Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn come to mind). Obviously I have no idea if this is true for the people you are talking about; I am simply thinking about a scenario where a straight couple would be referred to as partners or life partners.thavoice;1593482 wrote:This morning they had the lady on who is the girlfriend of the American guy on the flight. I'm convinced these "experts" get booked in the following manner (really obvious if you follow any of the legal "experts" giving opinions):bases_loaded;1593492 wrote:A CNN expert said it could've been a black hole.
Fox: "Colonel, can you be an expert analyst on our show?"
Colonel: "Sure!"
Fox: "We'd like you to insist the plane in on an dirt patch in Gaza."
Colonel: "No way. Absolutely not."
Fox: "We'll pay you $500"
Colonel: "For $1000, I'll link it to little green men....For $2000, I'll blame Obama" -

It was Don Lemon, not an expert.bases_loaded;1593492 wrote:A CNN expert said it could've been a black hole.
Also it was brought up in the context of "conspiracy theories" and how some are talking about bizarre scenarios such as a black hole swallowing up the plane. And while it was dumb to even broach the concept of a black hole involved in this serious or not, it was not a matter of discussion. Hell the first panelist dismissed the idea after Lemon turned to her -

thavoiceIF the pilot did this on purpose he def went to a very remote area to dump the plane. IF he was really smart he would have flown diff simulations at home in total different directions to throw off the investigation.

reclegend22Australia's PM now cautioning that the two mysterious objects spotted by satellites off the country's southwest coast may just be shipping containers that fell off a large sea vessel, but that the families of the missing deserved to know any possible leads discovered in the search.
If this isn't the plane, then CNN should get good later today. Buckle back up. -
gut
Same caution they've given such the beginning. It's obviously not 100%, but I'm going with they had a really good reason for making a big deal out of this. One report speculated that they probably have pictures with a lot better resolution but aren't releasing them publicly in order to mask their capabilities.reclegend22;1594112 wrote: If this isn't the plane, then CNN should get good later today. Also something to be said for the US knowing, but not wanting to just "whip it out" and embarrass everyone, nor does it want everyone to know what it can really do.
The scary part is that they divert resources to chase a ghost...and now you've added a whole other facet to a giant hole of the unknown. You may never find the plane, but now you can't NOT find that debris. -
reclegend22
I don't recall Australian officials specifically mentioning shipping containers as a possible explanation for the floating objects, but I suppose I could have missed that. I just heard it a few minutes ago for the first time, which made it sound like a new development, perhaps indicating that their confidence to any connection to the plane had waned. Perhaps I just misinterpreted that.gut;1594113 wrote:Same caution they've given such the beginning. We should know by this afternoon, as the weather over the water has begun to clear up and the search zeroes in on the field of debris. -
gut
I don't know if they said it specifically, but from the beginning the PM definitely exercised caution and emphasized this was their best LEAD.reclegend22;1594114 wrote:I don't recall Australian officials specifically mentioning shipping containers as a possible explanation for the floating objects...
When this story broke last night, CNN mentioned this area as a "garbage" dump because of virtually no surface current and very possibly could be something like a shipping container.
Subsequent stories then debated that this piece was too large to be a shipping container, but then also to too large for wreckage of a plane crashing violently into the water (now tonight I see stories saying that the plane might likely have "glided" into the ocean ala Sullenberger).
This is 5 days after the sat photos were taken....you're still talking a search area possibly at least 10,000 sq. miles. And they have the equivalent search capability of ONE plane. -
Manhattan Buckeye"Yeah, might have been the same person....I noticed it when they were talking about some guy the other night, and referred to his "partner" -"
We had a summer associate that kept referring to her "partner" - it caused so much confusion people didn't know how to address it. We all thought she was a lesbian, which wouldn't be a big deal - there were two lesbians and a gay guy in our group and nobody had any problems at all with that. Do the work and you'll be respected. Turned out she kept referring to her boyfriend, it was just weird. I'm not sure if she got a full-time offer or not (my guess- not) but she didn't join the firm. -
