Doubt it even if I knew an alcoholic.

No shit he knows. But when you have a sickness that's grabbing a hold of you its hard to say he shouldve known it's bad. You are being a bit of a child in this argument

First of all this wanna be screen star always seemed to relish his "troubled" image and I'm sure when he started doing it thought he was some kind of cool detached Robert Downey type character. Well guess what chubby white dude...youre fkn dead.
This is just retarded but considering that you said it it's not surprising. Did you ever hear about PSH and his drug addiction leading up to this? No you didn't. He was clearly mentally sick and had no control. To say he did it for attention is borderline insane. You sir are a joke.

    DGAF...another dead junkie...no loss.

With any luck, the next dead alcoholic will be you. No loss.

Ahhh so translation "you won this argument Durkie I'll concede" got it old man

It is a loss. It's a lost father first and foremost. And it's a high profile case that serves as a reminder of how many other anonymous people are dealing with addiction. Human beings make mistakes - especially young ones. And if your brain is wired for it, that young, stupid decision can affect you all of your life. I have yet to meet someone that didn't do something ridiculously stupid when they were younger. The good thing for most of us is that we don't have to deal with the direct consequences of those decisions for the rest of our lives. The point was made earlier on this thread - heroin can be a killer and so can alcohol (as an example). If your of a certain type of physiological and physical makeup and you drink alcohol, you're no different than a heroin addict in that you'll likely kill yourself sooner or later. An alcoholic may loath the day he took his first drink and put that monkey on his back just the same way the Hoffman may have felt about the time he first tried heroin. Hoffman stayed clean for 20 some years which tells me that he understood the seriousness of his condition and was willing to do the hard work But like all of us, he had an episode of weakness and being an addict, it cost him dearly.

He's dead and his kids are fatherless. That is a tragedy.

Ha you think you "won" because I'm bored with you and your junkie movie hero? Laughable.
  • Tiernan
I'm much more concerned about the fatherless children from our dumbass involvements in Afghanistan and Iraq Boogie. Hoffman's kids will be fine and never want for anything.

Why? Why should we give a fuck about them? They new the risks when they signed up. Another dead military man...who gives a fuck? No loss.

Just like Hoffman's choice to do drugs it's the military men's choice to join. Nice Double Standard there

Why do you believe it's a myth?

That's a pretty bold thing to believe (mainly because of all the facts that point to addiction being a disease and not a myth) so just curious what you read or heard that makes you think someone can't be addicted to something

You might as well ask him what evidence he has that the earth is the shape of a triangle. It really doesn't matter.

Yes and no, but its apples and oranges. one beer will not kill you. one hit of heroin could.

so he was addicted to heroin before he even shot up heroin for the first time? how can one be addicted to something he has never done? was he born a heroin baby?

Military service=something generally positive and selfless.
Shooting heroin=nothing good comes of it and its pretty selfish.
